I've got a 10 bay rack with only four cards in it. 2 x dynamic/mic
pre's and 2 x eq's
It's not for sale. What's it worth? Is it any good? (down boy Fletcher!)
I bought it and it's power suply for $1,690. It bugs me that the
other 6 bays are empty, kinda pricey to fill, any one got any spares?

Hi Julian

I wish I could be of more help but it's hard to put a price on your
Prism rack as I haven't seen many on the market. I'd guess that your
original price, which equates to around $2,800, is around tops for a
system that occupies around 5U of rack space and provides 2 channels of
mic pre/dynamic/eq.

I believe they are pretty good, based on the fact they are the same pcbs
used in the AMS-Neve V series. On a "where are they now?" theme, I
started the ball rolling with these racks (as Special Orders Manager at
Neve) by racking up 51 series channel components. I got two systems out
the door before the idea was clobbered by the then M.D (Laci
Nester-Smith, former head huncho, I recall, of the London Brick
Company) because he reckoned that studios would buy SSL's and the Neve
racks rather than buy Neve consoles. Needless to say, no sooner had I
departed (after 14 years) then out pops the Prism rack system! There's
consistancy for you!

BTW, whilst browing the web on topics Neve, I came across a studio with
a DDA console with "Neve designed" mic pre's. Does anyone know how this
came about? Was it a custom option or a product shared within the Harman
Group?

I recall, in a past role at Windmill Munro in the late 80's, that Bob
Calderwood, Wladyslaw Wygnanski and myself toiled through several
sleepless nights completely redesigning the grounding system of a
client's large DDA console so that it had a noise floor figure more
approaching that one might expect from a large music console. The mod
consisted of laying a 10mm cross section cable down the length of the
console and using it as the ground buss instead of the ribbon cable
system it used. I believe the principle was adopted with later DDA
consoles. I don't think Rupert had much influence on the model we
upgraded!
