Damping has to do with how fast the high frequencies decay. EQ is an
overall frequency response adjustment.

Whatever sounds good to you. Don't be afraid to use the preset settings.
Somebody thought they were good. But experiment. What you want to avoid
is for the reverberation to hang around too long so that it obscures
details.

It's a way of controlling the plug-in from a hardware controller that sends
MIDI data. You can select a parameter, say High Frequency Damping, put it
in MIDI Learn mode, and then operate some MIDI controller, say the
Modulation
wheel on a keyboard. You can then use the Modulation wheel to adjust the
HF damping.
In a real-life reverberant field the high frequencies naturally die
off faster
than the lows. Beyond the overall decay time, HF damping is the next
most important characteristic in describing a space.
