I saw a website a while back, and a RAP discussion about fake
equipment that you can put in your rack instead of rack spacers. They
have dials, knobs, and switches, and VU meters, but don't really do
anything. They just look cool.

I just aquired a 2U piece of equipment with 4 really humongeous pots
on them. I just happen to have 2U free in my rack and want to label
these pots with funny titles, like one that allows you to pan between
"Sucks" and "Rocks".

Any other ideas? Or does anyone know what the name of the website was
that sells these faux pieces of equipment?

I believe that's "Funk Logic"... the NCC-1701 being pretty humorous...

The company you are no doubt thinking of is Funk Logic.

A while back Funk Logic supposedly had a fake plug-in available on
their web site as a free download. I saw it mentioned in an ad, but
when I looked on the web site, it wasn't there. Maybe the ad was fake
too.

I'm really Mike Rivers - (mri...@d-and-d.com)

In the Sweetwater catalog they have these. Look on their web site.

Nope, I believe you're thinking of the "Masterizer" (hehheh...) which bomb
factory now charges for... grrr... I've had a use for that puppy here in the
last day or so...

I was going to write and see if they had the VST version, but I wasn't sure
if they'd take me seriously...

Yeah, but they got the real fakes, no imitations.

(It's not a fake anything, it's a real space taker-upper.)

As Focusrite refers to it's Red series blank filler panel, it's a safety device
that prevents someone from falling into a rack.

It's in the manual for REAL Focusrite Red gear. I don't think the blank panels
are particlarly cheap, though.

All I know is I'd like any gear I own to have a switch marked ENABLE, one
marked INHIBIT... KILL and ABORT would be nice. Maybe two keyholes, each
with a button beside... between them a red button marked ARM that lights up
when you hit it, bit it's covered by a little hinged perspex window!! The
function this enables is obviously so important it takes two different
people each with the right key to turn them at the same time while pressing
the button.

How about a full-sized rotary safe knob, to unlock your magic settings!

A1U unit marked ENGINE ROOM that has a flexible tube coming out with a
removable whistle in the end, like in all those WWII Navy films.

A button marked "AIR" followed by some marked with less plausable gasses.
"HELIUM" being the obvious one.

To borrow from Warner Bros, a unit maked DISCOMBOBULATOR might fool some,
and bring back Duck Dodgers memories for others. Preface with ACME for fun.

A soundboard marked "OUIJA BOARD" with faders marked "Hendrix", "Stevie Ray
Vaughan" etc

A pot that goes from Cold thru Warm, Warmer, Hot, Very Hot, Ouch!,
Aaaaaaaaaaagh!

Boxes marked PHASER 1, PHASER 2 each with a button marked "STUN"

A button marked "FEEDBACK TO CANS" and a volume knob, set to full.

Amidst a bunch of mundane settings, one marked DRUMMER EXPLODE

Buttons for Autotune, Autosing, Autoplay, Autoarrange, Autotiming, Auto
Replace Bandmember

A huge button somewhere it's easily knocked marked "Wipe Hard Disk"
