Bots posting drug and auto parts deals? For years, this was my favorite forum on the internet. I feel like the native American guy in that old commercial, looking at the pile of trash with a tear in his eye.

At least I still have my first RNC. A forlorn reminder of a more civilized galaxy.

Once I got the filters set up on my news reader and google, It's been less of a PITA, but still not what most newsgroups used to be. Guess I could set up a FB closed group or use one of the Meetup or something else. Does that sound enticing at all?

If you search FB, you will find a few groups that may suit your needs,
such as this one:-

https://www.facebook.com/groups/RecordingMixing

Or you could join or set up a Mastodon server.

I suspect the FB problem may be you. I am a member of a number of
groups, administer one and we don't have any major problems. There is
certainly less spam than on usenet, though finding a server which runs
Cleanfeed does reduce the spam there a lot.

Of course you would blame me!

Just because I disagree with certain recent production values in recorded sound
means that I'm the problem!

No: The issue I take with the "social" platforms is the junk that gets posted up
on what you see every day - your "feed". And some many people fall for it,
and it influences their views, their politics, and how they vote. How do you
think the 1/6/2021 'visit' to the Capitol was organized? 80 percent on social
platforms!

I would rather interact with others about common topics in UseNet groups
dedicated to those topics, or, on moderated subject-specific forums, than
go on social sites and have to see posts that make my blood boil, on the
way to dedicated groups or pages.

I'll throw in a twist to this discourse: I'd like to find away to reverse the migration
of contributors from Usenet and moderated topic forums to the social cesspool.

Make newsgroups and internet forums more appealing again.

So in essence some of you see the fading relevance of UseNet, or moderated forum
membership decline, and flocking to social media sites as "progress"?

I might have disagreed with some here regarding the digital era loudness issue,
but I disagree even more so about this situation.

UseNet is the ultimate internet "democracy".

Participants(it's voters really) are in most groups free to come and go as they wish.

And many 'voters' here have already done so - by electing to flock to social media sites to
conduct the same discourse they did, in here.

And you know what they say, when the grass dies, the weeds(the spammers, bots) crop up!
Which is exactly what is happing in many UseNet newsgroups, and in moderated private
forums.

I 'vote' to conduct the discussion of audio in newsgroups like this, and in moderated forums
such as GearSpace(nee -'Slutz') or HeadFi. And to conduct shop talk on rec.autos.tech,
the aformentioned Automotive Forums, and manufacturer specific fourms, e.g. 'DriveAccord'
for Hondas, etc.

*Oh by the way, my aunt had a knee implant, and my wife is trying a new hair color. And did you
see who was on Kelly Clarkson's show Thursday?....*

That last load of *horse pucky prattle* may kindly remain on FAKEbook, Shitter, and InstaScam,
a-thank-you-very-much. ;)

Now, back to gain staging, the best mic-pres, and IP-based studio practices!

I kind of feel that way about Usenet in general. But all that spam that you

get off Google and onto a legit mail server that filters properly, you will
see much less of it, if any at all.

Not that there is much legitimate stuff being posted.

How many years have you been active in this newsgroup?
HINT: rather RHETORIC question!!!

It should be long enough, that you should know, what "RNC" stands for in
this group´s context: *Really Nice Compressor*

HINT 2 - especially for you, Chris K-Man:
only and simply mentinoning a compressor device or using it does NOT
mean, that anybody is propagating ANY kind of "OVER compression" !!!

Nowhere did I say that I was completely "anti-dynamic-

Or just look up the product in question on the company´s website, before
"SCOTT DORSEY himself" finds time to do that.

https://fmraudio.com/rnc.html

The URL is as clean and direct as possible. In case, you choose to not
trust, that it´s clean and harmless -> copy the URL above and let
VirusTotal do a scan https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/url

Another option is to do a search with your preferred web search site for
"rnc compressor", which should show the company´s product page linked
above, as well.
