Hello,

Could you please comment on Mission 752 versus 753 speakers? Both in terms
of sound & whether the difference in sound is worth the difference in price
and used-up space.

Please send answers also to
gyo...@mpc186.mpibpc.gwdg.de

thanks a lot - gyorgy

Tricky one that, they're not really comparable at all. The 753 has
great punch and dynamics, a good rock speaker but kinda bright for
much classical music, whereas the 752 has weakish bass but a very
clean midband thanks to the Audax HDA driver, ideal for acoustic music
and female vocals but not a thrash metal contender. There's not really
a huge difference in space usage and the Tannoy 637 does everything a
753 does, only bigger and better and for 752 money. 'Nuff said?

This is something YOUR ears should decide, 'cause you're buying the
speakers. If it helps, I've heard the 753 under less-than-ideal
conditions in the U.K. (a trade show) and it sounded excellent. I've got
a pair of the 751s at home (the 753 were too big to hand-carry back
home!)

new set of speakers immediately. I have been looking at the B&W DM630i
and DM640i (looking forward to listening to new 603 & 604). Recently
though, I saw a picture of the Mission 753's in a British magazine, and
they were very highly rated. Why don't we here much of Mission here in
the states? How would they compare to a comparably priced B&W?

Hi,
I bought a pair of 753's about a year ago and am completely satisfied with
them. I also believe that they are worth the money. When I started looking for
speakers I meant to spend about one third less than the price of the 753's but
couldn't find anything really satisfactory. A quite good description is given
in Cyberfi, a virtual hifi-magazine on the WWW:
http://www.virtual-publishing.com/cyberfi/top100lo.htm
Compared to the 753's the 752's produce a much 'colder' sound which I don't
like at all. I never auditioned the B&W speakers simply because they weren't
available a year ago and the. In fact both brands are quite common here in
Germany and the only reason that you don't hear much of Mission is probably
that they don't sell very well in the states due to different tastes in the
reproduction of music compared to Europe. I for example have never heard
anything about Audio Alchemy products before reading the rec.audio newsgroups
and it is quite difficult to find a dealer here in Germany that sells them.
Lately I found a dealer and audiotioned the DAC-in-the-box and found it to be
inferior to comparably priced products from England like Cambridge Audio or
dpa.
When I say comparably priced take into account that in Germany the
DAC-in-the-box is sold for about 700 DM (=450$ !!!!). (Generally audio
equipment in Germany in much more expensive than in the states :-( ).
I hope this helps you a little but it's always best to audition as much as
possible and buy what your local dealers can provide. Never give too much
thought to what the hifi-mags write and discover your own taste.

I would not rate the Mission 734 (or the 735) While the bass extension
is great the upper range is quite bright. These speakers are really only
suited for rock.

The 752/753 are far superior. The better of the 2 I think is the 752. It
has a tighter base, and sounds more transparent than the 753. The 752's are
also easier to drive (90db / 8ohm load) and are better value for money as
it is almost 30% cheaper than the 753. If you go for either of the 75
speakers, make sure you dont partner it with bright sounding sources, as
this can sometimes lead to a clinical sound. Recommended integrated amps
for the 75's are the Arcam Delta 290, Cyrus 3 / PSX'r and for CD's : Arcam
Alpha 6, Marantz CD63SE.

Hello Keith,

As I was looking around for information on the Mission Cyrus range, I ran into your question
about the Cyrus DAD7.

I am now listening to Acoustic Energy speakers, powered by a heavy Harman Kardon integrated
amplifier and music supported from a Harman Kardon RLS CD player.

But I do miss something in the picture. In the earlier days a had a NAD amplifier, which sounded
much warmer and thereby suited more my ideas of music.

You recommend the Cyrus III amplifier. Can you describe the sound of the Cyrus? I'm certainly
going to listen to the III coupled with the Dad7, but if you can mail me some of your ideas about
the Mission Cyrus range, I will be glad the receive them.

keith,

very interested by your comments more so as i am currently trying out a pair of 752's at home! my
setup is i suppose, inherently bright (micromega stage 2, audiolab 8000a/p) but i like it. i was
hoping to play around with speaker cables to balance the sound some.

i certainly like the 752's and wd agree with your findings that it is v transparent and that bass
is delicious!

do you have any ideas on speaker cables? i've currently got van den hul's "the clearwater" which
also (i'm a glutton for this aren't i?) rather bright!
