The Midnight.

Without some elaboration, this response is not particularly useful. In
what way or ways is the AQ wire better than Kimber? What sort of system
did you use for comparison? Might there be some systems served better
by one than the other? I've never listened to a system with AQ wire;
I've heard a system with 8TC, McCormack electronics, and ProAc speakers
sound absolutely stunning. In general, a one-line "A is better than B"
response is quite likely to be inadequate, given the intricacies of
system matching and such.
To the original poster: On what basis did you narrow your search down to
these two choices? What kind of music do you like? What other
equipment is in your system? The answers to the last two questions will
make it possible for the rest of the group to make well-informed
recommendations.

In every single way. Yes, the midnight is the best affordable speaker
wire IMO.

David makes some valid points. People's requests for opinions and
responses that contain no context, such as the equipment used, really
don't tell this news group much.
I have not used Midnight, but I am currently using Crystal (the next
level down, just above Indigo) and do like it better than 8TC IN MY
ROOM AND SYSTEM.
I have owned 8TC multiple times and while I like it's clarity, I find
it a little "zippy" in my room. However, the bass of the Kimber is
quite deep and tight. I have some reflective walls, so maybe the
Audioquest works better in my room and sounds smoother with better
depth of image. I just find it better balanced.
In a more "dead" room the Audioquest would possibly sound too "muffled"
but I doubt it. The Crystal is good stuff. I would not hesitate to
buy Midnight.
I am using a set of tube monoblocks, a Van Alstine hybrid preamp, and
Monitor Audio MA-700 speakers.

The Midnight sounds better, too! (:)

and looks more impressive too, but less flexible.

And it's cat-proof. My cats chewed on the 8TC so I had to replace tham
with Midnight 3.

This depends your music taste and system. I myself have AQ Cobalt (better than AQ 2) and Kimber 4TC double run. Both are excellent for the price (I bought them used). The rest of the syetem are McCormack DNA-0.5, PSB Stratus Gold, ML aerius, Marantz CD-67SE, McCormack TLC-1. Both cables are the same class. AQ II is a lower class than my Cobalt. According to may ears and my audiophile friend. AQ Cobalt is more neutral and Kimber is more dynamic.
