On the side there were also a pair of YAMAHA floor-standing speakers. I
played
the same music at about the same volume. The YAMAHA sounded pretty tight
(or
lack of) bass, and does not feel as open or bright as the SONY ones in the
mid- to high end. The YAMAHA is supposed to be 3-way, and is a sealed
design.
(The YAMAHA is SA-2835).
Any opinion is welcom.

The SA-VA55 is the all-in-one pro-logic contraption. Over-priced and
low-fi. Avoid.

The sony es speakers you are refering to are the ss-m7es. I've been
seeing them advertised a lot lately. They sure do look like avalons. I
wonder what they sound like.

They sound rather like Paradigms, with a slightly cleaner midrnage, and
more extended lows. Seemed to be more resoloution in the treble too.
(comparing them to the little $500 bookshelf Paradigms, btw)
