I own a Technics GX790 receiver and mine gets pretty hot too. Initially I
was also concerned about that but it doesn't bother me anymore because
there is no sign of malfunction and it sounds great. I just keep enough
room behind and above the receiver to keep it adequately ventilated. I
have noticed that the fan starts immediately if you turn the volume knob
more than half the scale (even with no source input) and I assume it'll
switch itself on when the unit gets hotter than the threshold set by the
factory.
So stop worrying and enjoy the music. :-)
Aseem.

I have the same receiver, and can tell you that the cooling fan does not come
on until the receiver is playing at a loud volume. Mine turns on when I
have the volume knob at about a third power.

I've noticed the 690 gets warm, and I havn't really worried about it.
I just made sure there was plenty of room above it for venting purposes.
For comparison purposes, I'd say that my 690 has never been hotter than
the top of my computer monitor after its been on all day.

Hope this helps,

Mike
