Hi,

I am planning to built my first home theater system and I have heard that
Definitive Technology builds excellent speakers for this application. Does
anyone own or have experience with the BP8 or BP10? I would like know if they
will be good for music production and movies. It would be 70% music and 30%
movies for me. How do they compare to other speakers in the $700-1000 range
like paradigm, psb, etc. Thanks. All info will be great appreciated. Thanks.

I use Def Tech BP 10's in my home theatre, along with a Def Tech
PF 1500 subwoofer. It sounds fantastic! I use it primarily for movies
because I have another system for music, but the BP 10's do a great
job on music too. Very open, lots of "air", good soundstage. I'm
driving them with a Denon AVC 2000 which is around 75wpc.

I listened the the BP-8 and BP-10 at a local dealer, took the BP-8 home for a
further audition, and returned them the next day. I felt they had a bit of a
peak in the upper midrange that played havoc with the voice (heard it in two
rooms at the store and at home, so it shouldn't be a placement problem) and I
didn't feel that the top end was all that smooth.

I ended up going for the Vandersteen 1B instead. I felt they were much
smoother overall.
