Hi all and thanks to those who have been helping me in my quest for
better audio...
Now I have an opportunity to buy a miniature Archer (Radio Shack)
Surround Sound Amplifier model 15-1279. It says it's surround sound, but
it has no output for a center channel speaker; just two front and two
back. It's not true surround like on my Pioneer VSX-453, is it?
It has inputs for a few components: a tuner, tape in/out, and VCR/TV.
Then there is a pair of jacks that I have no idea what the hell they
are: front out L/R. ???? Next is a switch Speakers: normal/BTL Rear
On the front is a Stereo Synthesized In/OUt switch, a Dolby
Surround/Stereo All switch, Input Level Balance knob, Tone High/Low
knob. Also a balance front/rear and left/right and an input selector and
volume.
Basically, I'd like to use this with a pair of small speakers I have to
amplify the output from my computer. Sometime I might add a mini tape
player or cd player to fit it, and maybe a tuner.
So I've been wordy here, and here's my question: I plan to offer the guy
$20 for it...after all, he's got plenty of other toys and I'd like a
small system to listen to downstairs. Is it worth it? Any particular
problems with it? And what the hell is Front Out? :)
Thanks for all replies as soon as possible....

Don't let the guy talk you up too much higher, though... it could
always turn out to suck.
