I have alomost decided on Paradigm 9se MkIII's speakers
and would like to hear from those who have these or
suggestions/advice if I need to look for an alternate.
Tried to get a KEF90 center channel spk but had no success
in finding one. Any ideas on a suitable one ( for around $300) ??
Finally does anyone know of a mail-order company dealing
with audio system racks/cabinets ??
Thanks,
Vishy

I assume you meant MkIII in your subject. :)
I listened to the MkIII's and a set of MkII's which were in the same
room and everything. I found them to be virtually the same. The Mk3's
were the same exact drivers in a box that was like 8 inches longer. They
did have a LITTLE more/deeper base, but considering the Mk3's were $150
more than the Mk2's (which were $375). I would get the Mk2's if you plan
to get a sub in the future some time, or don't have a need for the extra low
base. The only other advantage was because the Mk3's were a little longer
you could put them on the floor and it would work, but add a set of $30 stands
to the Mk2's and you're set.

I auditioned the whole series of the Paradigm MkII line from from the 5 to the 11seMk3
and finally settled on the big brute 11seMk3. Sonically, i found the differences
between the 9 and 11 to be very little, the real advantage i heard was the slightly
better soundstaging and the more oomph in the bass. Of course depending on what kind
of amp you throw at it you'll get different responses from the bass realm. I had a
hard time finding any store that would allow home auditioning (and i was a little
wary of it myself actually because of the distance i am from any of the "good" stores
around here)
But generally listening to speaking in a store just isn't a good idea.. bad cables,
crappy sound setup. The usual complaints about in store listening.
But back to the point. In that price range if you're into good rock with occassional
classical i'd go for the Paradigms.
For a more classical approach i'd go for the Mirage's bipolars. Incredible piano
reproduction. However pathetic when trying to play Ministry or any other hard band.
Boston Acoustics are pretty good, a bit pricy for what you get and you usually have
to add a sub to get any decent bass response from those things.
Hope this helps
Ken
I didn't really know that the first number meant something.. Like the bose
901 series xx.
Could you tell me what it means.. i.e. I bought the 3seMk2's, what's
the 3 mean?

I have a pair of Paradigm 9seMkIIIs which I use as front left and rights
in a Pioneer home theatre setup. I also have the Paradigm CC-100 centre
channel. I have been VERY satisifed with my decision to buy Paradigm
equipment. Nothing comes close in this price range. My music taste
tends to be in the Dance Music genre so good solid bass is a must and
the 9se's easily deliver.
Using the Sound & Vision magazine Audio Test CD, there was lots of bass
down to 32 hertz with some actually being audible at 25 hertz.
Most of my movie library consists of titles like the Star Wars Trilogy,
Aliens Trilogy, Indian Jones Trilogy, T2 etc. where bass is important
for real enjoyment. The 9se's do an excellent job of providing here as
well. My roommate has a Paradigm PS-1000 powered subwoofer which the
9se's come quite close to sounding like.
The rest of my home theatre consists of PSB Alphas which I use as
surround speakers. Again, the Alphas are excellent speakers that I got
to really know real well as they were almost constantly blaring music out
in my college dorm last year. I have a seperate Pioneer amp driving
them which works quite well.
Anyhow...datz my 2 cents if anyone cares....
