I am thinking of replacing my CD player. I use it only as a
transport to drive my Audio Alchemy DAC. I've read in some
stereo magazines that the TEAC VRDS-10 performs pretty good as
transport.
A second-hand stereo shop nearby has the VRDS-7, VRDS-9 and the
VRDS-10 available. They are asking for HK$2400, HK$3300 and
HK$3700, respectively. Since I will use it only as a transport,
I think it might be just as good to buy the VRDS-7. My other
choice is to buy the Rega Planet (new) for HK$4800.
Does anyone know if the VRDS-7, VRDS-9 and the VRDS-10 share the
same transport and digital out mechanism? Should I be worried
about buying used CD players?
Any infomation or opinions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Why don't you consider a DDS Pro from Audio Alchemy in the first
place? I did come across two units in Hong Kong second hand shops,
asking for $5.5k to $6K. I have purchased a mint condition second
handed unit from US and ship it to Hong Kong myself. With I2S bus
connection, they are un-matched at thier price range.
By the way, which department/division are you serving in CityU? I used
to teach there as well.
