I am looking for an high-end Audio Research (Line) tube preamplifier
(with remote), and I would like to one of you has performed a
comparative listening review of those preamp (excluding the Reference
One which is too expensive for me), in order to give the "kind of sound"
that they provide (even if the best is to be neutral).
Thanks for sending your opinions to: mbl...@worldnet.fr

P.S.: XLR input and output are required.

If the incredible Ref1 is too much, the next step down (tube-balanced)
preamp you should be looking at is the Sonic Frontiers Line3. That's from an
ARC and Krell guy.
give it a try

You're going to have to listen to them. There has never been a "family"
resemblance to the sound of ARC preamps. They seem to change flavor
from model to model and year to year.
Johnny Booey mentioned the Sonic Frontiers Line 3. That is a preamp
that is so spectacular for the price. Dual mono, outboard power supply,
weighs in at 73 lbs boxed.
Before buying I would check one out.

JB, I thought Krell was the best? ;-)

before the snide comment, read the original message again. When did Krell come
out with a tube preamp? Please enlighten.

Well, the guy who asked the question wanted to hear about "tubed" line-stages.

Why seek tubes if you _constantly_ post that Krell rules all. Make up your
mind digital boy.

BTW Most newer ARC gear( other than the LS-7) sounds like ss. Shows how much
you know !

Dan D'Agustino (sic ? ) does not believe in tubes. So much for your God !

DEAD WRONG!!!
1) Krell rules in SS, while ARC rules in tubes. I like SS better, but dig tubes
all the same.
2) I have a nice tt setup. I like digital better, but dig vinyl all the same.

DEAD WRONG!!! They are very neutral but will never sound like SS. You are so
ignorant. I own the Ref1 and VT200, and have also had with the LS15 and VT100
and played with the LS22. The LS7 (which I recently sold after a long time) is
very neutral as well.

Your point? You have no point!!! If you know that he wants a tube preamp, why did
you want me to recommend Krells?

if you know that, then why the hell did you insist that I recommend Krell
preamps in this thread. Back off, loser.
