John Atkinson did an extensive review of them which I can fax you -- or
which B&W will send you on request. It is a very careful study, not uniformly
positive, but JA took them on as his reference at that point and kept them
until recently when they have apparently been replaced by the new Revels.
I exchanged notes with him a few months ago and he said his criticisms of
them were really not as significant as they sound. He loved them. Another
fan these days is Wes Philips who, it appears, has adopted JA's pair. I
am very much interested in them myself and still have yet to hear them.
I am told that IF you like mini-monitors and value what they do well
(image, provide an extraordinarily clear window, be wonderfully smooth,
clear, and in-the-room) more than other things (dynamics, high volume, deep
bass), they are the best. I have heard the same said of the the Sonus
Faber Homage Guarneris, which cost another $1600. My guess is that you
and I should hear both before proceeding, though that's not so easy to do:
they're not exactly in stock everywhere!
Let's keep in touch. Will be interested to hear what you decide. I'll
be auditioning the S.F. Elektra Amator II's next week to get some perspective.
They are easier to find in stock!

The last time I was there, I was helping a friend to listen to a pair
of Silver Signature 30, which is very similar to the cheaper Silver
Signature in the mid/treble region. Driven by the Krell FPB200,
these speakers left a truly transparent and musical impressions
on us. As you have rightly pointed out, there was no bass to speak
of, even when driven by a Krell!
The sound appeared to be colored, but of a decidedly pleasant
musical way though.
My friend preferred the Thiel CS7 ( the CS7.2 wasn't released yet )
for lower distortion and full range response, but the B&W was
more musical in certain ways.

Andy

I own a pair. I don't get anything done if there is music on. I
NEVER press STOP until the song is over. I say "Shhhh..." to my
spouse all the time.
I may be single soon because i ignore her when MUSIC is playing. OH
MY GOSH! i hope she leaves the Silver Sigs for me. She can have my
new Tacoma 4X4 SR5.
Any Questions?

David,
What else is in your system? Mainly what electronics? And
what electronics did you choose yours over?
Thanks,

Now that the Nautilus 801's/802's are available, I don't think the
Silver Signatures or the Sig 30's will sell very well. The new Nautilus
stuff is simply incredible. I'd take Nautilus 802's over Silver
Signatures for about the same price, and about the same size once you
factor in stands for the Siggies. The N-801's are as good as any
speaker I've heard, up to and including Wilson X-1's.
