If you need to sell a line, get Tom Noonan: "Choose hate--it's
simpler."
(This being an election year, they might want to trademark that.)
Nice reveal on Durant's pep talk--"the respectable ladies you can
pretend to be". And weren't they pleased!
That wee larrikin Sean sure turned out to be a nasty piece of work,
even if the Swede deserved it. Pretty sure the same fate would befall
anyone standing between him and a buck.
And who'da thunk Toule would get the girl? Constancy compensates for
an Igor neck.

This is my favorite TV drama right now, topping a list of some good
stuff (The Good Wife, Fringe). Can't wait til it returns. And the
Swede (who is really Danish) just gets creepier and creepier.

And Bohannon chose hate and someone who didn't deserve to paid for it. If he
could only see past his hate and need for revenge/justice and let the guy
produce his proof...

This brings down Bohannon's moral high ground which he had even if you
disagreed with his methods.

I am still trying to track down what the hell is a "Blushington"? None of my
google results so far seem relevant to this mid 19th century slang.

Glad he survived. Even though he is Norwegian I would've missed his "Swedish
Chef" accent LOL!

Her heart isn't in it. She is still in love with Elem. It is Elem's choice it
is all or nothing with her.

"The Swede" is really Norwegian. The Dutch had the same problem. The rubes
often thought of them as German. :-)

What was the context? I don't recall this word being mentioned.

It was during Durant's pep talk to the HoW Prostitutes who were going to be the
"society girls" at the dance that night for the VIPs that was coming to inspect
their Railroad investment.

Here is a transscription:

Durant [in a jovial stump speech manner]: I've asked you here today to
acknowledge the exceptional work you've done. We could not have come this far
without you.

[girls murmur in appreciation]

Durant: Now tonight is the 40 mile celebration. We shall have the pleasure of
entertaining Senators, Investors and sundry other dignitaries. And since we are
in such sort supply of, ah...ladies of repute, you will all be invited to the
dance.

[girls murmur in pleasure]

Durant: But you have to make yourselves presentable, and behave like the proper
ladies I know you can....pretend to be. But I warn you, pickpockets,
Blushingtons and Bug Hunters will be serverly dealt with! Now, go clean
yourselves up.

Still looking for the explainati on for "Blushington".

However I did find the definition of "Bug Hunter" here in this site on British
Victorian Underworld slang. It doesn't contain the definition of "Blushington"
but Bug hunting is:

"Bug hunting: Robbing, or cheating drunks. Esp. at night."

http://www.tlucretius.net/Sophie/Castle/victorian_slang.html

That does fit the context of the 40 mile Celebration soiree. Lots of drunks at
night. Definately something that sa dishonest prostitute would do. :-)

It was "Blushingtons" with a "B". Durant clearly enunciated with a "Buh" sound
and closed captioning agreed.

It wouldn't be the first time closed captioning was wrong.

Mr Edward Blushington was a character in a story "The Blunders of a Bashful Man" by Metta Victoria Fuller Victor. The author was a popular and prolific writer of the period in which Hell on Wheels was set. Mr. Blushington needed to be drunk in order to say "I do" in the wedding ceremony, which is appropriate for the context in which Durant was speaking......

The "Swede" is Norwegian, as he's from Norway.

BTR1701 can defend this followup to. The O.P. posted a followup in a
thread begun in January, 2012. The followup appears to have addressed a
point made in the root article, but the O.P. followed up to a different
article.

Not that piggybacking matters, for the O.P. couldn't be bothered to
provide any context.

I don't have an objection in general to resurrecting threads that died
years ago, but Google Groups posters are useless in the extreme when
they provide absolutely no context. Context is necessary and critical
when reviving a long dead thread, for on most News sites, the precursor
articles will have expired long ago.
