Shirley Jones, David Cassidy, Danny Bonaduce, Suzanne Crough, and
Brian Forster appeared except for Susan Dey. According to SJ, Susan
has "disassociated" herself with the rest of the cast.
If it wasn't for the Partridge Family, Dey would very likely never had
gotten the opportunity to be in LA Law and achieve reasonable success,
IMHO.
So why are some actors/actresses so ungrateful toward the shows that
got them started to fame in the first place? Tina Louise (Gilligan's
Island) had the same surly attitude...another good example.
Ok, perhaps Tina WAS type-casted...but I don't see where Susan was. LA
Law was just as serious drama as L&O, ER, West Wing, etc. is today.
So what's the real story here?
Phil
Of course, she just may want to distance herself from her Patridge Family
days. Eve Plumb (Jan) did. She dislikes being reminded of her Brady Bunch
fame.
Maybe Dey had a horrible time on the Partridge Family. Maybe she didn't--
and still doesn't--get along with some of the cast. Maybe she just wasn't
available for the reunion (yeah, like she's very busy right now !). Who
knows ?
But I agree, she should have been with the rest of the Patridge cast on the
that Today show.

Yes, David has his music, but that seemed most successful when he was Keith.
Danny has been in the news regularly, but I wouldn't say he's really
successful.
The two youngest (and why didn't they invite the other Chris to this reunion?)
seem to have faded from view with the end of the series, though I've not
checked tvtome. I see they have had some work, but they've not been visible.
Some of the guest stars became much bigger than the main characters,
people like Holly Near and Mark Hamill.
Danny certainly seems to have ridden on his Partridge family. David
isn't that different from Keith.
But Susan Dey had movie relatively soon after the series ended,
"see Lauri Partridge naked" is what I remember. She's had real
roles that seemed to be due to her abilities, rather than because
she was "Laurie". Though perhaps that's because she has distanced
herself from it so our impression is different.
It's a tricky thing. Show up at the reunion and bam, your right
back in sterotype-land. Don't appear, and it looks like you have
contempt for the show.
Michael
The first Chris probably wasn't invited (he didn't get along with the rest
of the cast).
As for Susan, she seems hot and cold about the Partridges (similar to Tina
Louise from "Gilligan's Island). Susan did spoof the Laurie Partridge role
when she hosted SNL about 10 years ago. And when one of the talk shows had a
cast reunion (it might have been Danny Bonaduce's short-lived show), Susan
did not appear, but did call in on air.

Susan Dey was paid peanuts. David Cassidy, because of the age
mix up was able to sign a very lucrative contract after the show became
successful. Susan Dey's success had to wait a decade. Why should
she be grateful for a ten year wait? I can see them having different
memories.
And for years David Cassidy hated being associated with the
Partridge Family although it made him wealthy and gave him
hot and cold running girls while it was on. Eventually he got a
clue.
If they want Dey to do a reunion or talk show, offer her enough money
that she can't say no. The others were simply cheaper to get.

What does Susan Dey look like now? Same as when on LA Law?
She was on the L.A. Law reunion movie a couple years ago. She looked
definitely older, but mostly the same.
No. I have seen a picture of her recently.
She has not aged well.

Eve Plumb is also on record as saying she'll do Brady stuff if the
CASH is right. She does waffle on it depending on the money and her
mood. After she said that, she did the E! True Hollywood story for
instance.
Maureen McCormick said the same thing at times but when her daughter
reached a certain age she was willing to talk Brady because her kid
liked the show.
Mike Lookinland also stopped doing Brady stuff for a while.
Tina Louise has had major annimosity towards Sherwood Shwartz and some
of her cast mates. She distanced herself and bad mouthed the show for
years. In fact as recently as last years CBS 75th Anniversary Special
she chose to sit with the Dallas cast (she was on the 1st season)
instead of Gilligan.
That said, I think recently she made peace with them around the time
the 1st season DVD set was released.
Oh, I don't know about that. She looks like what you would expect
most 52 year old women to look like. I have an older cousin that age
who looks a lot like her.
When I saw her picture recently it was kind
of jarring as to how different she looked
from her LA Law days. It was probably
just normal age progression but it kind of
surprised me for a moment.
I had the same reaction when I once
ran into an old girlfriend that I hadn't
seen in six years.
>recently.
guess what? your old girlfriend most likely had the same reaction to you ;-)

This could start another thread: Actors who have distanced themselves
from some of their television work
Eve Plumb ("The Brady Bunch")
Susan Dey ("The Partridge Family")
Sally Field ("Gidget", "The Girl With Something Extra")
Ron Howard ("The Smith Family")
Others?

You've been signed to a five year contract based on numbers
which assume the show is barely surviving. You are making
more than the average American but it's not like today.**
As for residuals, you don't get anything for cable reruns, ever,
nor tapes nor dvds. For Gilligan you get residuals on just a
few reruns. Residuals in perpetuity were not in effect yet.
(I'm not sure about the Brady Bunch and residuals in perpetuity.)
The show is cancelled before / when you try to get a raise.
You are typecast and barely work ever again.
Today I would certainly take the deal however. I'm less likely to
be typecast because there are so many channels and choices,
and there are paltry residuals for cable, but they are there and
they are in perpetuity. I'm not sure there are any residuals for
DVDs yet, however. (In theory it should have been covered by
tape residuals, but the language in the contract may not have
been general enough.)

** Circa the same time frame Harrison Ford asked for a
raise to do American Grafitti because he was making more
doing carpentry.

Tina Louise I think made up with her Gilligan castaway mates several
years ago when they all appeared on Rosanne together. I believe that
was the first time she ever appeared on camera with them since the
show ended.
As for Susan Dey, I find it curious she is willing to do a LA LAW
reunion but wants nothing to do with the Partridge Family. But her
response probably is because she wants to be known for her work after
the PF ended THIRTY years ago.
