I don't know whether you have seen this episode yet or
just given up about it, David J., as there are only the
two of us interested.
My previous recordings were without CC, but a cable
channel here is now airing them with CC, much to my
delight.
Now much to my chagrin, this is another Dr. Ogden-less
episode. Perhaps she is in no more episodes despite imdb
saying the last episodes credit her.
Anyway this is a near death experience episode, reminding
me of the 1990 movie "Flatliners" with Kiefer Sutherland,
Julia Roberts & Kevin Bacon - I did not like it! OTOH I
was also reminded of the 1946 movie "Stairway to Heaven"
aka "A Matter of Life & Death", which I liked very much,
but is a different kettle of fish.
The blurb reads:
"After a high stakes card game involving Dr. Grace ends
with the death of a player, Murdoch is shocked to learn
the true cost of their wagers is the opportunity to die."
The card game is "Faro" which is unknown to me.
The player died from a severed carotid artery. There is a
severe storm and the lights went out. We think this is due
to the storm, but the killer is responsible.
There is a secondary story involving a thug "Randolph the
Razor" and a person who is going to testify against him.
There is a quip about Randolph liking to keep his mind
sharp! George Crabtree, heeding Murdoch's advice re the
small details, apprehends Randolph, disguised as a
policeman, by noticing his shoes.
The group of players are members of the "Society for
Metaphysical Exploration" & they investigate "near death
states" with reference to Arthur Conan Doyle &
communicating with the dead.
The person who wins the card game is given chloral hydrate
& then put into an ice bath inducing hypothermia. Two of
the players, besides Grace, are also doctors one of whom
went to medical school with her. The near dead person is
revived with caffeine.
There was a previous accidental death of a woman who
instigated the whole schemozzle. One of the doctors had
given her too much adrenaline instead of caffeine.
I won't give away who did it, unless requested.
Murdoch is unwillingly injected with the choral hydrate, &
thence into the ice bath.
He is revived with difficulty by Dr Grace using CPR.
Later Murdoch says he saw Heaven and that it was
wonderful, but I think he was lying.
