did anybody happen to notice the contestant Tom Hendricks on Match Game PM the
other night? Well, on the panel was Bill Cullen who would later host
"Blockbusters" for NBC and Tom and his twin brother Joe would go on
Blockbusters and win a lot of money. Interestingly enough in one of the gold
run rounds the "MG" clue read "Fun with Gene Rayburn" can I can't remember if
it was Tom or Joe who said "Match Game" and Cullen responded with "of course!"

Interesting isn't it?

Very much so. The Hendricks brothers were the first family pair
on the premiere telecast on "Blockbusters", and steamrolled
everyone in their path. Then there was the McCarthy girls,
Pat and Liz, who ran up a total of $120,000 and won all 10
matches while losing very few games.

And on the single player side, you had Tom Hatten, who
during his run on BB lost everything he owned in a house
fire, and still went on to run the table. So both sides had
dominant and dynamic players, which they pretty much
discounted when the brought the show back in '87.

People who watch lots of GSN can spot a lot of returnee contestants,
especially on the Goodson-Todman shows.

When Match Game PM returns to the blue set, we'll see a few contesti from
the original NBC run of "Card Sharks", including:
- Royce Moss: CS's first male champion and one of PM's few $21K winners.
- Renee Lackey: Although her appearances were over one year apart, she
mentioned both times she was writing a travel book.
- Mark O'Connor: Played in the first-ever CS match, but didn't win. I
forgot how he did on PM.

One other note: in 1977, Brian Billick--the same Brian Billick who coached
the Baltimore Ravens to the Super Bowl XXXV championship--was a contestant
on PM. He may know football, but he [BLANK]ed at Match Game. :-)
