I watched

BEWITCHED:
Sick and tired of Phyllis inviting herself over and hiding evidence of
withcraft from her, Sam convinces her that she's got psychic powers,
After Phyllis becomes insufferable, Sam makes Phyllis think she changed
Frank into a mule and prompts her, via seance, to give up using her
powers, the "family curse".

THE O'REILLY FACTOR:
• White Working Americans and President Obama
• Bill speaks with Janet Napoliano
• It's Miller Time!

GHOST HUNTERS:
The team invesigates Milton, a former school where a little girl was
killed by the janitor. Lots of weird stuff happened in this ep from
the get-go.

THE RW/RW CHALLENGE: CUT-THROAT:
The first ep of a new challenge. I must be getting old b/c I do not
recognise many of the participants. When was there a Real World in
Cancune? The format of this installment is three teams compete in an
elimination challenge and teams that do not win have to send a male and
female into "the gulag" to be elmintaed. This week they had to solve
a puzzle whose clues were in a building filled with tear gas. The
emlination challenge was a rough and tumble game of take away.

What did you watch?

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.

No Ordinary Family (recorded) - A good follow-up in episode #2 (though
I'm not very happy that they (seemingly) killed Christina Chang off...).
Anyway, I like this show - it's not terribly hard-hitting, but I find it
entertaining.
Next week: Kay Panabaker gets a friend (though an entirely
*different* friend than from the pilot!). And will the Powells be
'outed' at a public banquet?!

Detroit 1-8-7 (recorded) - Another new show that's a winner. I didn't
like that the rookie was back, and was immediately involved in a full-on
foot-chase his first day back (which would likely have really messed him
up physically) rather than put on desk duty.
(Aside: What the heck was that ornate old condemned building that the
rookie, Washington, chased the perp into, anyway?! Was it like an old,
abandoned hotel or something? Anyone from Detroit area know?...)
Anyway, I did enjoy Fitch's confrontation with the crooked developer
at the end - I'm guessing that's going to be an ongoing plotline...

Rules of Engagement (recorded) - This episode was better again. And
Spade was used better here: while Timmy helps Jeff & Audrey go buy a
rug, Russell slowly destroys the office when left unsupervised - I
especially liked it when he lit the computer, and Timmy's jacket, on
fire! LOL! Meanwhile, Adam & Jen are grossed out by the rug that Jeff &
Audrey give them.

Hellcats - This time, Cheer Coach's story was actually more interesting
than the Hellcats'. On the latter end, bitchy Alice challenges
Savannah's leadership over the Hellcats, when Savannah's and Dan's idea
for the 'bid' video shoot turns into a snafu.
Next week: Kate Lang Johnson ("Persons Unknown") shows up as a
volleyball player who challenges the Hellcats to... well, something, but
I couldn't quite figure out what!

Recorded for later: just "Friday Night Lights" (the season #1 finale, I
think!).

Yesterday's post revealed him to be one sick puppy. perhaps today he was
unable to even leave his sick bed? Get well soon, David J.

>> What did you watch?

Survivor on CBS: Old tribe has one worthless old man, Dan, and two
delusional old men (Jimmy T. and Marty). So much comical stuff to be mined
from their storyline that the women on the tribe are all but invisible. I
feel bad for their newly crowned leader who seemed to run the challenge
well, but was saddled with a tribe full of slow/deaf people. Meanwhile,
young tribe is still saddled with the evil black lady, NaOnka, ...and she
now has an idol to boot. The editing focused on her and the Asian lady,
Brenda, but I can't help but feel that those two are still largely on the
outside looking in rather than being part of the majority alliance (even
though it was the other two women that ended up with the short end of the
stick at their last vote). Next week: player swap.

America's Next Top Model on CW: Really nice runway fashions this week. The
moving conveyor belt seemed to be giving everyone more trouble than it
should have. Have these women never been to a major airport? The
photoshoot turned out fairly well, though the bad photoshopping still
resulted in several pictures where the models' arms did not seem to be
attached to their bodies. I am getting really annoyed with the 4 time
challenger winner 'plotline', though, as her pictures are clearly not the
best the last few weeks. This week, she genuinely looked like a character
out of Nightmare Before Christmas.

Modern Family on ABC: the families are shaken up by an earthquake, but
mostly undeterred from their personal desires. Most of this episode was
good, but the Manny character is really wearing thin. It is time for him to
take a backseat in screentime.

The Badly Titled Cougar Town on ABC: Travis has gone off to college, but
has a hard time shedding himself of the old gang. Right in the middle of
the episode Grayson asks Jules if he can change pants because he still wants
children. She didn't even blink when he said it. This must be how Cate and
Ryan talked out their plans for the future on Life UneXpected.

> What did you watch?

Just "Macbeth" on PBS. I was at a reception (NPR-related, as it
happens) but got home in time to watch this in real time. It isn't
my favorite Shakespeare play, but hey, Patrick Stewart! He was
very good, of course. I found the contemporary ('30s-ish) setting
a fine match for the 400-year-old text. (I've seen some contemporary
settings that didn't work, but this one did, IMO.) The weird sisters
showed up as nurses and kitchen staff. Banquo's ghost was very
effective. (No filming tricks; they did it just as they must have
done in the original stage version of this production.)

On the VCR: "Bad Universe."

>Hellcats

A question about this, Ian. How often is Gale Harold in the show?
I FF'd through one a week or two ago and there was no sign of him.

Undercovers - I'm not sure what it is, but we're just not into this show.
We're watching mainly due to the lack of anything else to watch at this
hour. The annoying, flamboyant junior agent is still around which isn't
helping matters and they've made the boss man into a caricature.

Hellcats - Dan helps Savannah shoot the bid video with less than good
results which results in Alice challenging Savannah for top cheerleader.
Marti gets involved in helping a convict get his case reexamined. Coach
Douche announces to Doc his attention to get Vanessa back and Doc plays
directly into his hands. This is my least favorite episode to date although
it wasn't bad.

The Defenders - Kaz gets in trouble for browbeating a perjuring witness
prior to testimony outside of court and Nick has to come to his rescue.
Kaz's ADA girltoy is surprised when Kaz dumps her after the case after she
goes after him in court after he gets the witness to recant his perjured
testimony. She's a horrible person who doesn't care about anything except
winning. Nick and Lisa defend a gentlemen's club employee from a
questionable police bust for solicitation.

SVU - powerful but gruesome. Homeless kids treated as slave labor. Benson
and Stabler get sworn in as USAGs to follow the case outside their
jurisdiction.

L&O LA - Peter Coyote as the DA is a super douchebag who doesn't care one
wit about right and wrong. The assistant seems more upstanding.

Cougar Town - Travis just can't get away from them even when he's at
college. Jules is a bit bonkers over Travis's leaving home and somehow the
group gets involved in tight jeans and spying on the 'hood.

For later: The Whole Truth, the other ABC comedies

It was refreshing that the video sucked, but Alice just needs to be

It IS too bad. I thought it could have been a nice lightweight but
enjoyable adventure type of show, but I found it was pretty ridiculous and
frankly there are more than enough decent shows taking up our viewing hours.
My wife and I have several shows we record to watch together that satisfy
both our tastes...this looked like one. But we both voted thumbs down.
That agent alone was enough to make it unbearable...though I thought McRaney
was completely wasted here as well. Implausible and silly is one
thing...this is just annoying.

I appreciate the good wish, and today I have no more than a mild headache.
Unfortunately, what I don't have is usenet access. The local server
stopped getting and sending any messages except for the ones from that
insane guy who keeps ranting about "Bushites"... Which could mean he just
lost his access too, I guess. Let's see whether this route works

In any case, I watched

Hellcats:

Man the stupid was in bloom all over the place from Doctor Boyfriend
punching Coach Evil, to Savannah's mismanagement of her leadership role,
to Our Heroine going rogue and undermining her professor's legal strategy.
But I do have to give them credit for keeping from turning the video
shoot into more of the eye candy that is so big a part of this series.

Undercovers

Obviously the CIA wouldn't put their NOC lists on a system that could be
remotely accessed that way no matter what kind of encryption they were
using for them. So that's fridge logic for ya. Apart from that, yes, I
dislike suck-up boy. I'd dislike him more if I didn't suspect that it was
a facade and he's acting like an idiot so that Our Heros won't be as
suspicious of him as they should be.

The Whole Truth

I guess they moved the stunt casting episode up in the hopes that they
could get a ratings boost before cancellation. That stunt he who is not
Belushi pulled was truly idiotic. Not only would it put his license in
jeopardy, I don't think it would really work. Confronted that way, my
money would say that he'd just get defensive and entrenched in his lie.

LOLA

Hey, hey, it's the Mansons! People say we're Mansing around! That fire
demonstration looked very unsafe to me. I think I know of a guy who set
his house on fire doing something like that. I'm a little surprised.
That wasn't Alfred Molina saying "Plead her out". I thought that was
Molina's job.

Let's see whether this works...

I'm not sure which show you are talking about here. The Whole Truth had the
stunt casting (Judd Hirch), but The Defenders had the non-Belushi character
'yell' at the prosecution witness'. I agree that some people will just
entrench in their lies when confronted, but what the lawyer did (aside from
the inappropriate timing) was a good idea. After all, with the defendents
own partner already admitting that the crime happened, this guy was going to
get convicted if the witness wasn't convinced to stop lying. The worst part
of this episode is that it accurately reflected how little lawyers care
about right/wrong/guilt/innocence and only care about winning the case. I
was glad to see the 'hot lawyer' get dumped when the lengths of her
amorality were exposed. However, this show is eventually going to need to
address the simple fact that lawyers for the defense are equally unconcerned
with right/wrong/guilt/innocence. Hopefully 'our hero' lawyer's level of
amorality does not extend to trying to destroy their friends lives just to
falsely win a case, though.

Geez, other than the fact that the place is owned by a scuzzy real
estate guy named Maroun, that was a piss poor excuse to use the old
Michigan Central train station. You might recognize it as where Ewan
MacGreggor's double bites the bullet in The Island, the final fight in
Transformers, or if you're really cool, the beginning of Naqoyqatsi.
