I saw the Lost Girl DVDs in the store the other day and both season 1
and season 2 have stickers on them that say "Featuring Uncut Footage
Never Seen On SyFy". I'm assuming they aired complete in Canada?
Anyone know why they had to cut them for Syfy? US censorship? Length
of episodes?

I don't know for a fact but it is probably because of violence and/or
nudity/sex. Syfy is a basic cable channel so "Lost Girl" probably has
stuff in its uncut" version that could be shown on the prenium
channels HBO, Starz or Showtime.

I think they edited/redubbed some language and maybe some lesbian scenes.
Here's a link to a syfy forum where this stuff is discussed:

http://forums.syfy.com/index.php?s=d86cab271032551148260c7d3f9259d5&showtopic=2359657&st=0

I've seen both versions and I don't recall any major differences that
affected storylines. That said, I was watching the final 9 of S2 on or
before the US started S1, so I might not recall some of the original
Canadian stuff and details nor am I willing to go back and make comparisons.

Not that I saw. I watched the episodes that aired in Canada and
compared a few episodes to what aired on SyFy. I didn't notice any
differences. Any cuts they made were so minimal that it didn't stand
out and since there was no nudity in the Candian version there wasn't
any of that to cut out.

It's because SyFy runs 20 minutes of commercials every hour :(

I remember one episode where the scene they showed in the preview was
edited out of the episode, and it certainly was not for nudity. In
reading episode recaps online, I noticed a MAJOR scene cut from one of
the episodes, where I remember wondering what the heck had happened,
and the missing scene explained it.

SyFy SUCKS. My advice - watch a Canadian torrent or wait for the DVD's.

I watch the Canadian Lost Girl and don't recall any nudity, at least not
any naughty bits.

It could also be shown on basic cable. If SyFy is censoring it, they're
doing it voluntarily.

The only place such things can't be shown is on broadcast channels that use
the public airwaves.

While there's nothing *legally* stopping basic cable from showing as
much nudity as premium cable, customer expectations and standard
industry practices preclude it.

As I said, voluntarily.

Technically that is true but, IIRC, technically if a show has nudity
it can be shown on broadcast TV after 10pm but as a "gentleman's
agreement" with the public such things won't be shown unless under
special circumstances on Basic cable and broadcast. But I have to
double check that.
