While resting my weary knees, I watched:

THE OUTPOST:
"Two Heads Are Better Than None". Talon learns deep secrets about herself and
her kind; Wythers investigates the murder of a Prime Order officer, vowing to
execute the killer. I'm intrigued but wonder why she keeps doing stupid things
like fleeing from the guy who rescued her (and TOLD her to stay put until she
healed up!) and reads the scroll out loud. BTW, I was expecting Talon to be
exonerated when that demon she summoned went on a killing spree, but no, it
just vanished into the night and was enever heard from again. Apparently this
place's version of cocaine turns you into a Walker. Yeah, I can see why their
numbers of are on the rise.

FACTS OF LIFE:
"Jazzbeau". The death of a famous jazz singer brings back fond memories
to Tootie and Natalie, who got to know him at a resort hotel where he
worked as a waiter. Once again, Tootie demonstrates she is mentally
unstable. Hey, it's Dick Dietrick!

DIFF'RENT STROKES:
"Mrs. Garrett's Romance". Eyebrows are raised when Mrs. Garrett gets involved
with a younger man. He looked familiar but I have no idea why.

RELIC HUNTER:
"The Put Back". Sydney and Nigel visit Africa to save a fellow Relic Hunter
who is aging from retrieving a cursed item. Wow, morphing technology sure has
advanced since this show was made!

THE JEFFERSONS:
"Uncle George and Aunt Louise". George's sassy and precocious nephew comes to
visit. Said nephew is played by Gary Coleman, so you do the math.

THE JEFFERSONS:
"Jenny's Thesis". George becomes worried when Jenny interviews the Black
Widows, a gang in Harlem, for her thesis.

THE LOVE BOAT:
Happy Valentine's Day!
• "Computerman". Captain Stubing expositions to the crew that this is
their annual Valentine's Day cruise, full of single passengers looking
for love. How is this different from the rest of the year? Anyhow, Julie
announces that she hired a computer dating service to hook up the
passengers this year, just as he arrives with his hopelessly
antique-looking desktop thru the passenger entrance via a big cart and
immediately starts sleazily trying to make the moves on Julie, who
rebuffs his efforts. Later, on the Lido Deck, the matchmaking begins and
the sleazy guy starts to pair people off, including Julie, much to her
surprise, to the matchmaker. Unfortunately, no matches are found for
Captain Stubing, which is weird because it seems to imply that the
computer only matched up six or eight passengers and the ASCII computer
graphic went through a LOT of names while looking for the Captain's
match. For the rest of the cruise, the pairs seem to be doing fine, save
for Julie and hers. OK, he was willing but she was just being a bitch
about it. Eventually, the paired-up passengers fail, each accompanied by
a stupid ASCII computer graphic. Meanwhile, Julie has a change of heart
and discovers they have a connection. Unfortunately, their night in his
cabin (why was his cabin personalized? I thought it was Julie's at
first) is interrupted by the angry dissatisfied couples his computer
matched up earlier. How they got his room number is anyone's guess (OK,
maybe not THAT much, given previous eps), but what exactly are they
expecting him to do about it? At the end of the cruise, as the
passengers disembark, we discover the couples are back together again,
or maybe they all switched partners, and the sleazy guy admits to having
"fixed" his computer to pair him with Julie b/c he fell in love with her
on first sight. So I guess they're going to date now?
• "Parlez-Vous?". Two women pretend to be French and not understand
English in order to get husbands. I have no clue how or why this would
work, but the one hooks up with a man whose roommate is "Bill Nye the
Science Guy" and the other falls in love with Gopher. Eventually, the
one with Gopher gets tired of his embarrassingly bad French and spills
the beans, which he takes surprisingly well. The other one, however,
recants his offer to buy her an engagement ring.
• "Memories of You". Patti Duke is convinced a male passenger is her
husband who mysteriously vanished, but when she confronts him abut it,
he denies it. I think she made it up to get Doctor Bricker from
constantly hitting on her. Eventually, he opens up to the possibility
that the stress of writing commercial jingles together caused him to get
amnesia so she decides to get married to him and move to a more idyllic
rural residence.

FAMILY GUY:
"The Woof of Wall Street". Brian convinces Stewie to teach him how to
invest in the stock market after learning Stewie has a knack for making
money from it. Meanwhile, Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe look
after the Drunken Clam while Jerome is away. I have to applaud this
show for sticking up for capitalism at the end.

STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE:
"Blaze of Glory". A sub-space message indicating cloaked Maquis missiles
heading for Cardassia prompts Sisko to release Eddington, hoping the Maquis
leader will help him disarm them. The whole thing turns out to be an unlikely
ploy to reunion Eddington and his wife, but he

This will be a belated multi-day catch up. I watched:

Snow Falls – “Serpiente” – I already forgot what happened. But I think
I liked it.

Preacher - "Schwanzkopf" – Penultimate episode begins to wrap up all of
the storylines, but they don’t seem to be converging yet. In
particular, Cassidy might as well be in his own spin off show. His
story has *nothing* to do with everything else happening on the show.
Anyway, overall it was an OK episode.

An Ordinary Man (Netflix rental) – Ben Kingsley stars as former despot
now in hiding. He has friends who are trying to keep him safe from
capture, but he insists on staying in his home country and going out in
public. One day after his people move him into a new safe house a maid
(Hera Hilmar) shows up to clean it for the old occupant. Kingsley pulls
a gun on her and after terrorizing her for a while he declares from now
on she’s his maid. The two of them develop a weird (nonromantic)
relationship over time. It’s not a bad movie. At least it held my
interest. It’s mostly just an excuse for Kingsley to show off his
acting talent.

Unfriended (NetFlix rental) This entire movie takes place from the point
of view of watching a group of friends chatting on the computer. The
movie starts with someone watching a YouTube video of a girl committing
suicide then moves to one of her “friends” chatting online with her
boyfriend. From there more friends join the chat along with a
mysterious person who claims to be the dead friend. They try to get rid
of the unknown person, but can't. From there we watch the teens forced
to confess to various bad acts and kill themselves. This was a really
bad movie. And the never leave the computer screen point of view
gimmick made the movie look *cheap*. Any 5 kids with a web cam and $50
for special effects can make the exact same movie. Although if they
spend the whole $50 on the effects it might have a higher production
budget. Part of the problem is again the gimmick, and it’s not
believable that all of them would have continued to chat after the first
one died. And especially after the second death, they should have
scattered to the four corners of the Earth. AVOID this movie at all
costs! I watched it, so you don’t have too…

Vendetta (Netflix rental) Dean Cain stars as a cop who intentionally
gets himself thrown into prison with the man (“Big Show”) who murdered
his wife so he can get his revenge. This movie was just bad on so many
levels. I had low expectations going in (I don’t even remember adding
this to the queue and it clearly snuck past my defenses). While staring
Dean Cain didn’t boost my confidence in the quality of the movie, during
the opening credits I noticed it was directed by the Soska Sisters so I
had hopes I might be pleasantly surprised. Sadly no. This was a total
waste of time. I’ll concede it was well directly, but the script...and
Cain has *no* charisma as a leading man. It might have played better if
he had been cast as the villain. He seemed to be playing his character
as a psycho killer anyway. If you're in the mood for a somewhat
similarly themed movie, watch Vince Vaugn in "Brawl in Cell Block 99"
instead.

Mile 22 (theatrical) - Mark Wahlberg stars as the leader of a black ops
team that has to escort a government agent (Iko Uwais) 22 miles from the
US embassy to a plane to take him the US. He has critical information
which can stop a nuclear attack but won’t divulge it until he’s safely
in the air. There’s also a ticking clock plot to get him to the plane
on time. Of course the mission is compromised and team has to fight
their way through 22 miles of nonstop enemy attacks while innocent
civilians are caught in the crossfire. The movie has been getting
really bad reviews and I agree with many of the criticisms I’ve read.
Nevertheless, overall, I liked it. It’s a dumb action movie staring
Mark Wahlberg and Iko Uwais. Mark shoots, while Iko kicks. As long as
they’re doing their thing, I have no complaints.

Alpha (theatrical) Kodi Smit-McPhee stars as a prehistoric young man who
gets separated from his tribe during a hunt and winds up bonding with a
wolf that had originally tried to kill him. The two have adventures as
they make their way home. This movie was shot in 2016 and shelved.
Based on the trailers I had little interest in actually seeing it. It
didn’t help that the advertising campaign from last year show it as an
action adventure movie while the retooled campaign showed it as a
lighthearted family movie. But, it was shot in IMAX 3D and that alone
was enough to get me in the theater. Plus it was directed by Alber
Hughes, and his track record is pretty good. Combined with generally
positive reviews, I was hoping to be pleasantly surprise. Well I
wasn’t. At least not to the degree I was hoping. I have to admit, it’s
not a *bad* movie, it’s just not a good movie either. It’s just sort of
meh. Maybe slightly better than that, but only slightly. As a public
service announcement, I’m going to reveal what the trailers have been
hiding. This movie is subtitled! There is no English spoken in this
movie, in spite of the trailers that have Kodi narrating events. I was
*not* happy about that! Still I’d say depending on your interest in
watching movies set 20,000 years in the past where all the dialogue is
subtitled, you may get some enjoyment out of it. The wolf was
definitely charming. And it the IMAX 3D visuals were pretty good too.

She's All That (Starz) 1999 teen romantic comedy staring Racheal Leigh
Cook as a “nerdy” girl who Freddie Prince Jr. bets his friend (Paul
Walker) he can transform into the prom queen. I have never seen this
movie before now. Although I have watched and enjoyed “Not Another Teen
Movie” which parodied it heavily. I decided to record/watch it because
I was going to a con which featured Rachael Leigh Cook and figured why
not check out one of her big hits. Plus I’m eager to watch “Not Another
Teen Movie” again and wanted to view the source material. Having seen
it, I can say the parody is better. It’s not necessarily a bad movie,
but it is dated. It was a little amusing watching to characters talk
about playing “Sega” as if that was a thing. But I guess in 1999 maybe
it was. Although it still seems like something that would have been
said maybe 5 or 10 years earlier. Anyway, the other notable thing about
this movie (other than the 90s music) was the number of recognizable
faces. Every other person cast in this movie was/is recognizable. Even
Sarah Michelle Gellar pops up in a nonspeaking role as girl sitting in
cafeteria. If you’ve never seen it before, you’re really not missing
anything.

Speaking to Rachael Leigh Cook as I mentioned, I saw her at a con over
the weekend. She stared in one of my favorite movies, “Josie and the
Pussycats” so it was nice seeing her in person. I asked her about
“Josie and the Pussycats” not being on blu-ray yet, and said she didn't
even know the difference between a blu-ray and DVD. I had to explain it
to her. :-/ Anyway she was really sweet. John Noble was also at the
Con. Really nice, funny guy. I had *no* idea he’s Australian until he
spoke and out came a *thick* Australian accent. Interestingly he
mentioned he lives in Texas. I guess he doesn’t mind commuting to LA
for work. He also mentioned the team behind Legends of tomorrow is the
same team behind Fringe, which is how he ended up doing the show for
them. One other person I'll mention is Charles Fleischer (Roger Rabbit)
who was also at the con. He was um, interesting. The host had to point
out a couple of times that he's a "stand-up comic." I'm just not sure
if he was laughing with us or at us. But it was nice having him there.
And I learned he's apparently some sort of scientist. He even has a
paper on gamma ray bursts published. He also has a TED Talk that was
constantly hyped up that I guess I'll track down and listen to one day.

Even though you didn't ask I'll tell you what I watched over the
weekend. I binged my way thru both seasons of 'Con Man', Alan Tudyk's
fictionalized show about being a sci-fi actor. It was originally a web
series so each episode is only 15 minutes. Syfy had shown the first
season a while back and earlier this year showed the entire series, out
of order late at night without any fanfare or even announcement IIRC. I
had recorded them all months ago and finally got around to watching them.

My main take away is that if there is even a grain of truth in the
satire, it is really horrible being an actor in Hollywood. This is
especially evident in an episode where Tudyk's character is auditioning
for a role. The director is at lunch watching thru the laggy, glitchy
stream from his assistant's (Eliza Dushku) phone in her breast pocket;
all the industry people are not paying attention doing other things
("The modern audience is distracted, so we try to recreate that in the
auditioning process" is Dushku's explanation) and they are all answering
to the "social media team" of three six year olds on laptops in the back
of the room.

Lots of cameos and surprising guest stars, usually funny with the
surreal farce situations Tudyk self-destructs his way thru, its worth
watching if you can find it somewhere.

So, what did you watch?

Doesn't have to be in Hollywood. I remember one of the first times I showed
my animation demo reel, I had to go over to the producer's house on a Sunday
morning (that happens a lot) where he turned down the sound and picked
aimlessly at his guitar without looking at the screen until it was over, and
then wanted a bid. This guy just went around to different ad agencies
constantly asking if they had any work coming up and then went out looking
for people to do it hoping to make a commission because apparently agencies
just sit there with work needing to be done hoping somebody to do it will
fall out of the sky without them having to make a phone call or anything.

Oh, and any producer or agent who calls you in and then keeps you waiting for
more than an hour to see them only has $10 to spend. Literally. $10.

THE LAST SHARKNADO (sort of covered elsewhere)

TAKE TWO
Ep 5 Death Becomes Him
In a plot we've seen before, a dying guy hires a hit man to put him out of
his misery (and get his wife the insurance she won't get if he goes from
natural causes or, apparently, murder, just by accident) and then gets better
and wants to cancel. Our victim is played by one of the goofy buddy cops from
CASTLE. Much of the plot revolves around a bug in smoke detectors that lets
you hack in and listen to what people are saying in the room because ...
wait, why do smoke detectors have microphones again? The writers don't
understand what reverse engineering is. I think this is the one where they go
undercover as David Addison and Maddy Hayes.
Ep 6 The Devil You Know
A complicated plot involving the return of the beautiful black female bounty
hunter that doesn't play by the rules that we've never seen before (yes, just
like on Castle) that ends up being part of the evil judge conspiracy
mythology plot line we dread so (yes, just like on Castle). The bad guy from
Arctic Air reappears as the Judge who by killing a witness gets all the
charges against him dropped, because nobody takes statements or anything. Our
heroes my strip down to bare skin or die (Eddie is in painfully ripped shape)
but our girl leaves her bra and panties on because, well, who knows. I guess
only her breasts and butt die. There's a major plot point about whether she
drank during a roofie blackout that just gets forgotten. Jewel Staite is the
evil government agent - or is she?

I did not realize that I had seen these episodes of the very last season.
At first I did not remember it, but as it progressed,
I did remember certain dialog.
In fact Ive seen the whole season & hence the show.
Well it filled in the morning for me, & thence social activity.

It's been a long while since i last watched it, but I still remember it
very fondly. The Anyone can be prom queen scene is pure comedy gold.

I'll know for sure as soon as I watch it again. The only hold up is I'm
thinking of watching the "American Pie" franchise first. But I'm
slightly less interested in revising those movies just now, so it's a
bit of a toss up how I'm going to play this.

Except for American Pie which came out the same year, I don't think I
saw any of those teen romcoms. The only reason I saw American Pie is we
showed it on campus, so I got to see it for free. While I instantly
liked Pie, I doubt I would have had particularly strong feelings about
She's All That.

What did you like about it? A lot of people at the convention also
really really liked it. I didn't watch the movie until after I came
back from the convention so I didn't have a common point of reference.

Season 2 is more "bitter" than season 1 in my opinion. Season 1 poked
fun at fandom but season 2 was aimed more at Hollywood and the industry
and was less light-hearted about it.

Some of us *still* haven't seen it. Even in 1999, if I'd been given the
choice between watching a "teen romantic comedy" and painting the house,
I would have asked how many layers of primer to use. :)

Skipping 1999-era Rachael Leigh Cook is nigh on a *sin*!!

;p

I have no idea who that is without cheating and looking her up.

I recognize the name but I wouldn't know her if I saw her.
Checking ...
Oh, I remember her from her recurring role in Psych.
And the evil realtor in Las Vegas.
She was Josie in The Pussycats.
And I guess I saw her in the horrible Emma Roberts Nancy Drew starring the
horrible Emma Roberts, but I don't recall her at all.
She's done an impressive amount of work I've never seen.
She looks like the stunted offspring of Natalie Portman and Stana Katic.

Ah, yes, looking at her entries I also remember her in the movie,
ANTITRUST, where she played the 'evil' computer nerd.

Nope, haven't seen either of those.

Great movie that was shamefully ignored at the box office.

I saw Antitrust when it first came out in the theater. I completely
forgot she was in it. It's a mediocre movie. But I still remember Tim
Robbins chewing the scenery as an evil, murderous Bill Gates type.
Nevertheless I would have revisited it, except every time it comes on
cable it's shown in the wrong aspect ratio.

Your a meen won. :)

Okay, so I looked and I still don't recognize her at all. And while
she's not unattractive, there's nothing there to cause me to walk into a
lightpost, either, so Ian has disappointed me here once again.
