I heard a story Re: Ray Coombs this morning on CNN Headline News, but
haven't found any more on clari.* or other on-line sources. It was
reported, very strangely, that he took his own life by hanging. They then
went on to say that this occured *after* he went to the hospital with a
head wound. It just didn't make complete sense.

Anyone hear/confirm this story? You know, he's the guy who did Family
Fued, got canned and was immediately in a near-fatal auto accident.
Survived perfectly fine. Very strong character, was hosting a show on the
Family Channel... Sadness if what i heard was true...

Here's the most recent info I could find on this story:

LOS ANGELES (Reuter) - Ray Combs, former host of the syndicated television
game show ``The New Family Feud'', committed suicide Sunday while being
treated in hospital for a head injury, the Los Angeles Times reported
Monday.

Police and hospital officials investigating the death of Combs, 40, would
not say how he killed himself, only that he had died of ``respiratory
failure unrelated to his head trauma,'' the Times said.

Officials refused to comment on reports that he had hanged himself in his
hospital room.

Combs, who lived in suburban Glendale, fell and struck his head in his
jacuzzi Saturday, according to news reports.

After six years on ``The New Family Feud'' Combs was replaced in 1994 by
Richard Dawson, the longtime host of the original ``Family Fued.'' Later
that year Combs suffered a swollen spinal disk and temporary paralysis as
the result of an auto accident.

His next TV venture, ``The Love Psychic,'' in which he promised to offer
the psychic truth about the contestants, was short lived.

Combs and his wife Debbie had six children. He is also survived by his
parents, Ray and Anita Combs.
