Would anyone know the name of the person who gave Jim Phelps his
assignment each week on the tape? Was he utilized when M/I was remade
or in the movies?

The voice on the tape was actor Bob Johnson - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0424614/

He did reprise that role in the 1988 revival of the series, but he
passed away in December 1993.....so he did not return for the Cruise
movies, the first of which came out in 1996. Henry Czerny and Anthony
Hopkins did the voices in the first 2 movies (can't recall if the
voice was even used in the 3rd movie).

Thanks for the info. The whole intro became a catchphrase in those
days. "Good afternoon Mr. Phleps" became a phrase to introduce
someone to a new assignment.

I thought "this message will self destruct..." became a bigger
catch-phrase.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.
