The coalition opposing the Iran Deal is coming into focus. As Congress returns from summer recess in September, the Republican presidential clown rodeo will roll into town to take on the Iran Deal. Sen. Ted Cruz and reality television star Donald Trump will appear at a D.C. rally organized by the Tea Party Patriots, the Center for Security Policy, and the Zionist Organization of America to oppose the deal as the congressional debate begins.

Although short on foreign policy experience, the ZOA's Mort Klein is happy to have Trump on his side. Klein explains, "I think it's of great value to have a person who will likely command coverage of this rally, of this issue, like Donald Trump would be able to. I think it's a good thing. I don't care if he sucks the air out of the room." Trump is on record as saying the Iran Deal will lead to a "nuclear holocaust." Cruz has said the deal will make "the Obama administration the world's leading financier of radical Islamic terrorism." I hope this rally is broadcast.

I think you have conflated a Walt Disney fantasy with a Jewish end-time fantasy.

The media and the American voter should focus on the bigger picture, and not allow grandstanding politicians to distract us from the pressing issues of the day and of the current Presidential campaign.

Donald Trump Sent Sheldon Adelson a Glossy Booklet of Photos
By Maggie Haberman 2015-11-05
http://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2015/11/05/donald-trump-sent-sheldon-adelson-a-glossy-booklet-of-photos/

During the hot months of summer, when Donald J. Trump was suddenly on top of the polls as the candidate who shunned fat cats and would finance his own campaign, the real estate developer sent a personalized memento to the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

Mr. Adelson received an inscribed booklet of glossy photos of Mr. Trump being honored at the Algemeiner Jewish 100 Gala dinner in February, along with Melissa Rivers, who collected an award on behalf of her mother, the comedian Joan Rivers, who died in September 2014, according to two people with direct knowledge of the gift and who were not authorized to speak publicly about it.

The dinner was held at the Manhattan restaurant Capitale, and was written about in The New York Observer, the newspaper owned by Mr. Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

The event honored people "for their continued support of Israel and the Jewish people," according to the Observer article. Mr. Trump received his award from his daughter, Ivanka, who converted to Judaism when she married Mr. Kushner.

The booklet that Mr. Trump sent to Mr. Adelson, who is said to consider the protection of Israel to be among the most important issues in settling on a candidate, featured several photos of the event, including some with him and Ms. Rivers together, according to one person who saw it.

And on the booklet was one of Mr. Trump's trademark notes, scrawled by hand, according to both people with knowledge of the booklet. Addressed to "Sheldon," Mr. Trump wrote that "no one will be a bigger friend to Israel than me!" recalled one of the people who saw it.

It was around this time that Mr. Trump spoke to Mr. Adelson by phone, in a conversation that the casino magnate has described to associates as an attempt to secure his support. During that call, according to Mr. Adelson's recounting of it to his associates, Mr. Trump repeatedly talked about living in a city with a large Jewish population, pointing to his Jewish son-in-law and his now-Jewish daughter.

A spokesman for Mr. Adelson did not respond to requests for comment. Mr. Trump's campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, did not respond to an email.

Mr. Trump has made a central part of his campaign message denouncing candidates who appeal to major donors such as Mr. Adelson, who is said to have spent more than $100 million in the 2012 election cycle. Last weekend, he spent time criticizing the hedge fund executive Paul Singer for his support of Senator Marco Rubio.

But as reported by Politico, Mr. Trump's son-in-law scheduled a meeting with representatives of Mr. Singer. That meeting was put off and never rescheduled.

And Mr. Lewandowski had talked to people within the Trump campaign about his relationship with a longtime adviser to Mr. Adelson, Andy Abboud, as a potential connection. Such discussions run counter to Mr. Trump's insistence that he is running as a lone wolf fueled only by his own money and the donations of his fans.

People close to Mr. Trump have insisted he was more interested in preventing Mr. Adelson from supporting a candidate who could use that money as a weapon against the real estate developer.

In an appearance on "Morning Joe" on MSNBC on Thursday, Mr. Trump insisted he never sought financial help from major donors.

"I had one conversation with Sheldon and all he wants to do is protect Israel," said Mr. Trump. "But I don't want his money, I don't need his money."

He added, "The only thing I can tell you is Sheldon Adelson is very well protected because I will take care of Israel, but his primary thing, I would say, 99.99 is Israel."

'If I win, I will be Israel's true friend in the White House'
Boaz Bismuth Friday February 26, 2016
http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=32049

Everything has already been said about the stand-out Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump -- that the Republican establishment is wary of him, that he intentionally makes provocative declarations, that in the grand scheme of the 2016 election he is nothing more than a passing fad, that he will ultimately fail. So what? In the meantime, the billionaire from New York has won three consecutive primaries and managed to draw support from almost every sector, making him the race's hottest commodity.

Last December, I met with Trump in Las Vegas just before the Republican debate there. In that interview, he leveled some harsh criticism at incumbent President Barack Obama, made a great deal of promises regarding what he would do if he entered the White House and showed quite a bit of love for Israel. This week, after his big victory in Nevada, I sat him down for another interview.

Q: Mr. Trump, yesterday, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tried to question your support for Israel. How is his commitment to Israel stronger than yours?

"My friendship with Israel is stronger than any other candidate's. I want to make one thing clear: I want to strike a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. It is what I aspire to do. Peace is possible, even if it is the most difficult agreement to achieve. As far as I understand, Israel is also interested in a peace deal. I'm not saying I'll succeed, or even that an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is within reach, but I want to try. But in order for an agreement to happen, the Palestinians need to show interest. It's a little difficult to reach an agreement when the other side doesn't really want to talk to you.

"Don't get confused there in Israel: I am currently your biggest friend. My daughter is married to a Jew who is an enthusiastic Israel supporter, and I have taken part in many Israel Day parades. My friendship with Israel is very strong."

Q: This week you spoke very negatively about the Iran nuclear deal. You even said that in some cases, violating deals is permissible.

"This deal was the worst deal that Israel could have gotten. Think about it: Beyond the deal itself, Iran also received $150 billion. And to think that they signed that deal without discussing it with Israel! As far as I'm concerned, this deal is the worst thing that ever happened to Israel. There is a clause in it that stipulates protecting Iran's nuclear facilities should they come under attack. You have to read it to believe it. It may very well be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I don't understand what it means, that America will attack Israel if Israel attacks Iran? That's ridiculous."

Q: Many presidents have promised to relocate the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. What is your position on the issue?

"I can only say that I like the idea."

Q: I've been covering the U.S. elections for many years now. The pundits said that you wouldn't run, then they said that you would crash and burn, then they said that the voters wouldn't vote the way they said they would in the polls. In reality, you are crushing everyone. Let's play the pundit for a moment -- explain the Trump phenomenon to me.

"The pundits misread the intense anger that exists in the U.S. today. No one foresaw the anger of the American people -- toward the administration, toward the bad deals that the U.S. has signed, like the trade agreements and the Iran nuclear deal. What do you think? That the American people liked the deal? The deal with Iran is also one of the reasons for the great anger that exists in the U.S. today. It was a terrible mistake. And look at the way the administration is handling the military: We are not winning any wars. America is not winning, and America always needs to win. It is important for America, and it is important for the world.

"President Obama isn't good. For Israel, he has been the worst president in history. Look at how frustrated Prime Minister [Benjamin] Netanyahu was every time he visited Washington. All of Netanyahu's claims are correct; he is 100% right. Is this any way to treat our friends? I will make sure that changes."

Q: Am I speaking with the next president of the United States?

"There is still a long way to go, but we are on the right track. If I make it to the White House, you will have a true friend there."

Q: Thank you for the interview, Mr. Trump.

"Shalom."

Insider: Trump to skip GOP debate for pro-Israel conference

Donald Trump will miss the final Republican presidential debate to address a major pro-Israel lobbying organization instead, according to an insider.

"Hearing that Trump secured a Monday night speaking slot at AIPAC conf. in D.C," tweeted Noah Pollak, executive director of the Emergency Committee for Israel, referencing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

AIPAC announced last Friday that Trump would addressing its conference, which runs March 20-22. Other confirmed speakers include Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

New York Observer political reporter quits over paper's Trump relationship
By PETER STERNE 04/13/16
http://www.politico.com/blogs/on-media/2016/04/ny-observer-reporter-quits-over-papers-trump-relationship-221899

On Wednesday, one day after the New York Observer endorsed Donald Trump, the paper's national political reporter, Ross Barkan, announced that he would leave the paper.

"Personal news: I'm announcing today that my last day at the New York Observer will be April 27th," he wrote on Twitter.

https://twitter.com/RossBarkan/status/720263847966167041

Barkan told POLITICO said that a major factor in his decision to leave was the paper's relationship with Trump, who is the father-in-law of Observer owner Jared Kushner. The paper endorsed Trump in an editorial on Tuesday

"[The endorsement] played a factor," he said. "It was a decision I've been wrestling with for more than a day and more than a week. I didn't expect [the endorsement] was coming. It blindsided me.

Barkan said that he was particularly troubled by Observer editor in chief Ken Kurson's decision to help Kushner write Trump's March 21 speech to AIPAC.

"The AIPAC situation was very troubling. Anyone knows that an editor in chief should not be reviewing the speech of a presidential candidate. I don't care if it's Trump or Bernie Sanders," he said.

"Given what happened with AIPAC and given some of the other issues there, I felt it was time to go,"

Donald Trump said in a radio interview on Thursday that his favorite teaching in the Bible is the Old Testament punishment of an "eye for eye."

"Is there a favorite Bible verse or Bible story that has informed your thinking or your character through life, sir?" asked host Bob Lonsberry on WHAM 1180 AM.

Trump responded, "Well, I think many. I mean, when we get into the Bible, I think many, so many. And some people, look, an eye for an eye, you can almost say that. That's not a particularly nice thing. But you know, if you look at what's happening to our country, I mean, when you see what's going on with our country, how people are taking advantage of us, and how they scoff at us and laugh at us. And they laugh at our face, and they're taking our jobs, they're taking our money, they're taking the health of our country. And we have to be firm and have to be very strong. Trump: Israeli Settlement Construction in West Bank Should 'Keep Going'
Haaretz May 03, 2016

U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has come out in favor of Israel building new settlements in occupied territory.

Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview on Monday that the construction must "keep going" and "keep moving forward."

Ahead of Tuesday's Indiana primary and his pitch for Jewish voters in what could be a close election in November, Trump sang a different tune, clearly seeking more support from conservative Jewish voters.

When asked whether there should be a pause in settlement construction in territory Israel captured in the Six-Day War but where Palestinians seek to establish their own state, Trump replied:

"No, I don't think it is, because I think Israel should have - they really have to keep going. They have to keep moving forward."

Trump Names Jewish Financier, Fixer to Major Campaign Positions
Nathan Guttman May 7, 2016
http://forward.com/news/national/340165/trump-names-jewish-financier-fixer-to-major-campaign-positions/

"I don't think there can be any question about [Trump's] steadfast support for Israel,"

Unlike his likely rival in the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump has not appointed an official liaison to the Jewish community. But he is building a team of advisors that features several new Jewish individuals in addition to the employees who have thus far advised him on Jewish issues.

Earlier this week Trump put Michael Glassner, currently serving as deputy campaign manager, in charge of preparations for the Republican nominating convention. In addition, Trump named Steven Mnuchin, a Wall Street financier, to serve as his national finance chairman.

The two Jewish advisers will join several other members of the Jewish community filling key roles in the Trump campaign, including Jason Greenblatt and David Friedman, two lawyers who are consulting Trump on issues relating to Israel, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has emerged as one of Trump's close confidants in the campaign.

Asked a question about Israel, Trump deferred to Jason Greenblatt, chief legal officer of the Trump Organization.

Glassner, according to a Politico report will be Trump's front man in preparation for the Cleveland convention, which will test the candidate's ability to unite the Republican Party.

A former AIPAC regional director, Glassner was an adviser to presidential campaigns of several Republican candidates. His last political stint was in 2008, when he managed Sarah Palin's vice presidential campaign.

"I don't think there can be any question about [Trump's] steadfast support for Israel," Glassner said in a February interview with Jewish Insider.

"I would not be working here if I didn't believe that that was held by the candidate himself. It's very important to me, very important to him and the country."

Mnuchin, a hedge fund manager and former Goldman Sachs partner assumed the position of national finance chairman this week.

Mnuchin's political donations have favored Democratic candidates. He also contributed $7,000 to Hillary Clinton's previous senatorial and presidential campaigns. After leaving Goldman Sachs Mnuchin founded OneWest Bank Group and has financed many high-budget Hollywood films.

His father, Robert Mnuchin is a Jewish philanthropist and art collector.

Trump's search for advisers, though in unofficial roles, on issues relating to Israel, led him to two Jewish business associates. Jason Greenblatt, an Orthodox Jew who in his day job serves as Trump's executive vice president and chief legal officer, was asked by the presumptive nominee to advise him on Israel issues though he does not have extensive ties with players on the Israeli - Palestinian scene.

Friedman, a bankruptcy lawyer, is known for his close ties with the settler community in the West Bank. He heads the American Friends of Bet El Institutions, which raises money for project in the settlement and is a regular columnist in Arutz Sheva, a right wing radio outlet. In his columns, Friedman has been a harsh critic of President Obama's policy toward Israel

Trump Bars Refugees and Citizens of 7 Muslim Countries
By MICHAEL D. SHEAR and HELENE COOPER JAN. 27, 2017
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/27/us/politics/trump-syrian-refugees.html?_r=0

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Friday closed the nation’s borders to refugees from around the world, ordering that families fleeing the slaughter in Syria be indefinitely blocked from entering the United States, and temporarily suspending immigration from several predominantly Muslim countries.

In an executive order that he said was part of an extreme vetting plan to keep out “radical Islamic terrorists,” Mr. Trump also established a religious test for refugees from Muslim nations: He ordered that Christians and others from minority religions be granted priority over Muslims.

“We don’t want them here,” Mr. Trump said

The president signed the executive order shortly after issuing a statement noting that Friday was International Holocaust Remembrance Day, an irony that many of his critics highlighted on Twitter. The statement did not mention Jews, although it cited the “depravity and horror inflicted on innocent people by Nazi terror.”

GIULIANI: Trump asked me how to do a Muslim ban 'legally'
Natasha Bertrand 2017-01-29
http://www.businessinsider.com/giuliani-trump-asked-me-how-to-do-a-muslim-ban-legally-2017-1

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani told Fox in an interview on Saturday that he helped draft President Donald Trump's "extreme vetting" executive order after Trump called him and asked how to do a "Muslim ban" "legally."

"When he first announced it, he said 'Muslim ban,'" Giuliani, who served as the vice chairman of Trump's transition team, told Fox. "He called me up. He said 'put a commission together. Show me the right way to do it legally.'"

Giuliani then put a commission together with Judge Mike Mukasey, Congressman Mike McCaul, Rep. Pete King, and a "whole group of very expert lawyers on this," he said.

"We focused on, instead of religion, on danger," Giuliani continued. "The areas of the world that create danger for us. Which is a factual basis, not a religious basis. Perfectly legal, perfectly sensible. And that's what the ban is based on."

Experts have noted that the countries included in the ban — Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen — seem arbitrary, and do not include countries that have posed serious terror threats in the past such as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the United Arab Emirates.

The order cites the September 11, 2001 terror attacks three times as justification for the ban, but the 9/11 hijackers were from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Lebanon — none of which were included on the list of banned countries.

Trump insisted on Saturday that the order is "not a Muslim ban."

Obama already said they won’t get any special consideration and even deported
some that snuck into the U.S. via Mexico, despite being specifically targeted by
Muslim jihadists and despite the long established Christian Arab community in
the U.S. and despite the fact that they’re usually better educated and will readily
assimilate.

WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Tuesday that the rise of anti-Semitism in the United States since his inauguration was “horrible” and “painful,” reacting publicly for the first time to mounting threats targeting Jewish people and institutions after he drew criticism for being slow to condemn them.

During a visit to the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, Mr. Trump said he was reminded of the need to combat hatred “in all of its very ugly forms.” He spoke one day after 11 bomb threats were phoned in to Jewish community centers around the country and a Jewish cemetery in University City, Mo., was vandalized.

“The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community and community centers are horrible, and are painful, and a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate and prejudice and evil,” Mr. Trump said.

The statement came after weeks of private complaints from leaders of major Jewish organizations to members of Mr. Trump’s inner circle, including his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, about the president’s seeming unwillingness to speak out forcefully against anti-Semitic acts. His failure to do so stoked concern among some Jewish leaders that Mr. Trump, whose presidential campaign drew the support of racist and anti-Semitic groups including the Ku Klux Klan, was at best willing to stay silent about such actions and at worst quietly condoning them.

Mr. Trump’s comment on Tuesday was a rare concession to the demands of outside forces by a president who prides himself on standing his ground.

"The president wants to defeat ISIS, he wants to win, what he needs is a U.S.-led conventional coalition ground force that can take Raqqa and clean out the Euphrates River Valley of ISIS all the way to the Iraq border," Keane said. "Handwringing about U.S. ground troops in Syria was a fetish of the Obama administration. Time to look honestly at a winning military strategy."

White House and administration officials familiar with the current debate tell me there is no consensus on how many troops to send to Syria and Iraq. Two sources told me one plan would envision sending up to 50,000 troops. Blogger and conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich wrote on April 9 that McMaster wanted 150,000 ground troops for Syria, but U.S. officials I spoke with said that number was wildly inflated and no such plan has been under consideration.

JARED KUSHNER FAILED TO DISCLOSE HE LED A FOUNDATION FUNDING ILLEGAL ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS BEFORE U.N. VOTE
BY CHRIS RIOTTA ON 12/3/17
http://www.newsweek.com/jared-kushner-disclosure-form-west-bank-settlements-israel-white-house-729290

Jared Kushner failed to disclose his role as a co-director of the Charles and Seryl Kushner Foundation from 2006 to 2015, a time when the group funded an Israeli settlement considered to be illegal under international law, on financial records he filed with the Office of Government Ethics earlier this year.

The latest development follows reports on Friday indicating the White House senior adviser attempted to sway a United Nations Security Council vote against an anti-settlement resolution passed just before Donald Trump took office, which condemned the structure of West Bank settlements. The failure to disclose his role in the foundation—at a time when he was being tasked with serving as the president’s Middle East peace envoy—follows a pattern of egregious omissions that would bar any other official from continuing to serve in the West Wing, experts and officials told Newsweek.

The first son-in-law has repeatedly amended his financial records since his initial filing in March, along with three separate revisions to his security clearance application. Despite correcting his financial history on multiple occasions, he has yet to include his role as co-director to the family foundation.

The omission was first discovered by a team of researchers at American Bridge, a progressive research and communications organization, and shared exclusively with Newsweek on Friday afternoon. The researchers suggested Kushner’s failure may have been more than an inadvertent mistake, but instead an attempt to avoid "potential conflicts with his job negotiating Middle East peace." Newsweek later independently confirmed Kushner's omission on his multiple financial disclosures.

"Every successive failure to disclose his financial holdings makes it harder and harder to believe Jared Kushner isn't trying to intentionally deceive the American people," Pat Dennis, the group’s research director, told Newsweek. "At the very least, his security clearance needs to be revoked immediately. He has no business accessing sensitive national security information."

The foundation donated at least $38,000 between 2011 and 2013 to a fundraising group building a Jewish seminary in a West Bank settlement known as Beit El. During that period, Kushner’s foundation also donated an additional $20,000 to Jewish and educational institutions in settlements throughout the region, the Associated Press reported. Had Kushner included the role in his financial records, his involvement in such donations—and the following conflicts of interest that could possibly arise in his government position—may have been considered by the Office of Government Ethics.

Despite the U.S.’ longstanding policy to diplomatically reject the construction of Israeli settlements, Kushner seemed to wave in a new diplomatic era among members of Trump’s transition team working on foreign issues, according to sources who spoke with The Washington Post, NBC, Buzzfeed and Bloomberg. Each of those reports pointed at Kushner as being the "very senior member" of the transition team mentioned in charging documents Special Counsel Robert Mueller filed Friday.

Kushner demanded future National Security Adviser Mike Flynn "get on the phone to every member of the Security Council and tell them to delay the vote" on the West Bank settlement resolution, Buzzfeed reported Friday. The move may have violated over the 200-years-old law called the Logan Act, which bars "unauthorized citizens" from negotiating with "foreign governments having a dispute with the United States."

Flynn’s guilty plea appears to indicate he’s cooperating with Mueller’s team and could be willing to shed more light on how critical decisions were made throughout the transition, as well as on Russia’s impact in the 2016 presidential election.

"My guilty plea and agreement to cooperate with the Special Counsel’s Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country," Flynn said in a statement. "I accept full responsibility for my actions."

Kushner stated that he was a member of the board of directors of the Kushner Family Foundation from 2010 to 2017, though publicly available financial records for that foundation do not include his name on the board. Instead, Kushner’s role as a director for one of his family foundations can be found in the Charles and Seryl Kushner Foundation’s financial records from 2015—the last year of which such documents are currently available to the public.

Whether Kushner’s latest discovered omission was intentional or not remained a mystery on Friday afternoon, as news was exploding surrounding his involvement in the U.N. Security Council vote, which ultimately approved the resolution condemning West Bank settlements. Representatives for the Office of Government Ethics, Jared Kushner and the Charles and Seryl Kushner Foundation did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

"He’s revised his forms several times already," Dennis said. "There’s no reason his lawyers couldn’t have done what our researchers did. It wasn’t rocket science."

Donald Trump: I Am the Only One Who Can Save Israel
Trump took to Twitter to endorse both himself, and Jewish business mogul Sheldon Adelson

On April 27, Donald Trump declared through his Twitter account that he is the sole person that is able to “save Israel,” and that “these politicians and political clowns” are merely wasting everyone's time.

Nobody but Donald Trump will save Israel. You are wasting your time with these politicians and political clowns. Best! #SheldonAdelson

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 27, 2015

As you can see, Trump also hashtags Jewish American business mogul, investor and philanthropist Sheldon Adelson, which actually stirred considerable controversy amongst Twitter users. Naturally, his assertion facilitated open dialogue amongst supporters and critics, with many responding sarcastically by stating that the preservation of Israel is not even a relevant issue.

One user exclaimed, “Great! We need a pol who wants to save Israel as his first priority. #sarcasm.” Another stated that Trump works towards the “beat of [his] own drum,” as opposed to conforming to more utilitarian forms of leadership. Other responses came from anti-Israel campaigners who condemned his backing of the Jewish state. One challenged Trump by claiming that Israel engages in war crimes and genocide, while others professed obscenities towards the prospective presidential candidate.

Additionally, Trump prompted many Israeli supporters to suggest other effective ways that he could help Israel. One exclaimed that in order to effectively aid the Jewish state, Trump must cease to attack other presidential candidates and political officials. Others supported Trump’s assertion through numerous re-tweets.

Coincidentally, the tweet came out as prospective Republican contenders were en route to Las Vegas to attend the Republican Jewish Coalition spring summit at the Venetian Resort and Hotel, which Adelson owns. Coincidence? Doubtful. Furthermore, it's been reported that Trump is taking the necessary steps in order to run for the presidential election in 2016 as a Republican candidate.

Naturally, Adelson was present at the summit, and is known for being a prominent supporter of presidential Republican candidates. He is also a distinguished advocate of Israel, which normally entices Republican contestants to garner endorsements through his support of the Jewish state.

According to the New York Times, Adelson donated approximately $100 million to Republication contesters during the 2012 election. He also helped to fund Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election in March 2015. In the past, Adelson has contributed donations in order to help land an Israeli spacecraft on the moon.

In the meanwhile, guess we'll have to wait and see if Trump actually runs for Presidency and consequently gets Adelson's support. Seems more like a shtick though, if we're being honest.

WASHINGTON — Ten days before Donald J. Trump took office, Sheldon G. Adelson went to Trump Tower for a private meeting. Afterward, Mr. Adelson, the casino billionaire and Republican donor, called an old friend, Morton A. Klein, to report that Mr. Trump told him that moving the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem would be a major priority.

For Mr. Trump, the status of Jerusalem was always more a political imperative than a diplomatic dilemma. Faced with disappointing evangelical and pro-Israel backers like Mr. Adelson, or alarming allies and Arab leaders while jeopardizing his own peace initiative, the president sided with his key supporters.

For Mr. Trump, the political benefits clearly outweigh the costs. The Republican Jewish Committee bought a full-page ad in The New York Times that is to be published on Thursday, depicting Mr. Trump praying at the Western Wall.

“President Trump,” the slogan said, “You Promised. You Delivered.”

Trump’s Seven Forbidden Words
January 1, 2018 Lawrence Davidson
https://consortiumnews.com/2018/01/01/trumps-seven-forbidden-words/

There is a scene in George Orwell’s famous dystopian novel 1984, where the protagonist, Winston Smith, is having a conversation with a philologist by the name of Syme. Syme is involved in a government effort to restructure the language spoken by the novel’s upper classes, those who have power or work for the ruling party. The language is called “Newspeak.” Syme’s job is to get rid of dangerous words. Here is how he describes his task: “We’re destroying words – scores of them, hundreds of them, every day. … The whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought. In the end we shall make thoughtcrime [having unorthodox thoughts] literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.”

Now let’s shift to another scene, not a literary or fictional scene, but a probable real life one.

Sometime in the month of December 2017, somewhere in the bowels of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in Washington, D.C., a high-level appointee of the Trump administration moved to take ideological control of the agency’s budget-writing process. This official presented a directive to the agency’s departments, such as the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), listing seven words that were not to be used in budget preparation. If they were, they would be flagged and the document sent back for “correction.” The seven “forbidden” words are: “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based.”

The higher-ups at the HHS have insisted that there is no “ban” in place. Departments like the CDC can still do research in areas to which these unwelcome key words relate. But this disclaimer is misleading. To do the research you need money, and the money comes from the budget. The “discouragement” of key words is meant to marginalize their related research agendas. If fully effective, this attempt at censorship – for that is what it is – could contribute to undermining several generations of cultural progress, and challenge the “science-based” methodology that serves as a foundation for the modern world.

We already know that President Trump has no time for facts that differ from his personal worldview. That is why the U.S. is not part of the “science-based” treaty to slow down global warming. We also already know that he does not think minorities (both racial/ethnic and sexual) deserve protection under the law. These and other prejudices, worn so publicly by the president of the United States, have let loose a revolt of religious and social reactionaries, perhaps numerically represented by the 33% of Americans who approve of Trump’s performance. These folks would take the country back to a time of discrimination, segregation, and scientific know-nothingness. And for Trump these folks are the only ones who really count. He has recently declared that unfavorable polls are “fake news.” This is Trump “making America great again.”

It appears that one way Trump and his allies think this can be done is by censoring the language used by the people in power and those who work for them. As the computer engineer and writer Jem Berkes points out in reference to 1984, “the ultimate aim of Newspeak is to enclose people in an orthodox pseudo-reality and isolate them from the real world.” Sounds a lot like what is happening at HHS.

Can Censorship Work?

Can this work? It probably already has among the roughly one-third of adult Americans who are sympathetic to Mr. Trump’s ultimate aims. These include many Christian fundamentalists and various racist conservative sects, the Alt-Right and Fox TV talking heads. Among those who are of the opposite point of view, both cultural and political progressives, there is no chance that this proposed “orthodoxy” will go unchallenged. Many of this latter group are old enough to remember what the president’s “great America” once looked like – for instance, what life was like before the civil rights acts. And many of those who can see through Trump’s double-talk, of whatever age, have an instinctive preference for equality, fairness and clear thinking.

However, between these two opposing groups lies the insulated masses – the millions who pay little attention to politics and know little of the importance of science. These folks, focused on their day-to-day concerns, are essentially isolated in their localness. They have no sense of what is presently at stake, and therefore find it difficult to think critically about the Trump agenda. For this group, skewing language may well result in skewing their worldview. It is probably from the thinking of this segment of the population that Trump and his agents want to ultimately eliminate the values represented by the “seven forbidden words” and all that they mean for social policy.

Thus, the end game is to have no more thinking of society and its problems in terms of a citizen diversity, minority vulnerability, or entitlement based on proven need. For instance, citizens are not to think that sexual minorities are in need of legal protections. Indeed, the country’s LGBT population turns out to have less right to protection than an unborn fetus. In addition, citizens are to no longer pay heed to evidence-based and science-based arguments when they may call into question the practices of alleged societal customs.

Donald Trump’s Use of Language

You might find the scenario laid out above farfetched. Yet it correlates well with the way Donald Trump uses language, as well as his devaluing of any objective standard for truth. Thus, President Trump’s persistent combination of gross exaggeration and “alternative facts” gives many of his public statements an Orwellian odor.

In his ghost-written book The Art of the Deal, Trump is quoted as stating that “if you tell people a lie three times, they will believe anything.” No doubt he has told himself this more than three times, for he now seems to live his public life by this tenet. There are fantastic and untrue self-aggrandizing claims such as, because of the changes Trump is initiating, “our children will grow up in a nation of miracles,”

Revealed: Trump team hired spy firm for ‘dirty ops’ on Iran arms deal
Israeli agency told to find incriminating material on Obama diplomats who negotiated deal with Tehran
Mark Townsend and Julian Borger 5 May 2018
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/may/05/trump-team-hired-spy-firm-dirty-ops-iran-nuclear-deal

Aides to Donald Trump, the US president, hired an Israeli private intelligence agency to orchestrate a “dirty ops” campaign against key individuals from the Obama administration who helped negotiate the Iran nuclear deal, the Observer can reveal.

People in the Trump camp contacted private investigators in May last year to “get dirt” on Ben Rhodes, who had been one of Barack Obama’s top national security advisers, and Colin Kahl, deputy assistant to Obama, as part of an elaborate attempt to discredit the deal.

The extraordinary revelations come days before Trump’s 12 May deadline to either scrap or continue to abide by the international deal limiting Iran’s nuclear programme.

Jack Straw, who as foreign secretary was involved in earlier efforts to restrict Iranian weapons, said: “These are extraordinary and appalling allegations but which also illustrate a high level of desperation by Trump and [the Israeli prime minister] Benjamin Netanyahu, not so much to discredit the deal but to undermine those around it.”

One former high-ranking British diplomat with wide experience of negotiating international peace agreements, requesting anonymity, said: “It’s bloody outrageous to do this. The whole point of negotiations is to not play dirty tricks like this.”

Sources said that officials linked to Trump’s team contacted investigators days after Trump visited Tel Aviv a year ago, his first foreign tour as US president. Trump promised Netanyahu that Iran would never have nuclear weapons and suggested that the Iranians thought they could “do what they want” since negotiating the nuclear deal in 2015. A source with details of the “dirty tricks campaign” said: “The idea was that people acting for Trump would discredit those who were pivotal in selling the deal, making it easier to pull out of it.”

According to incendiary documents seen by the Observer, investigators contracted by the private intelligence agency were told to dig into the personal lives and political careers of Rhodes, a former deputy national security adviser for strategic communications, and Kahl, a national security adviser to the former vice-president Joe Biden. Among other things they were looking at personal relationships, any involvement with Iran-friendly lobbyists, and if they had benefited personally or politically from the peace deal.

Investigators were also apparently told to contact prominent Iranian Americans as well as pro-deal journalists – from the New York Times, MSNBC television, the Atlantic, Vox website and Haaretz, the Israeli newspaper among others – who had frequent contact with Rhodes and Kahl in an attempt to establish whether they had violated any protocols by sharing sensitive intelligence. They are believed to have looked at comments made by Rhodes in a 2016 New York Times profile in which he admitted relying on inexperienced reporters to create an “echo chamber” that helped sway public opinion to secure the deal. It is also understood that the smear campaign wanted to establish if Rhodes was among those who backed a request by Susan Rice, Obama’s final national security adviser, to unmask the identities of Trump transition officials caught up in the surveillance of foreign targets.

Although sources have confirmed that contact and an initial plan of attack was provided to private investigators by representatives of Trump, it is not clear how much work was actually undertaken, for how long or what became of any material unearthed.

Neither is it known if the black ops constituted only a strand of a wider Trump-Netanyahu collaboration to undermine the deal or if investigators targeted other individuals such as John Kerry, the lead American signatory to the deal. Both Rhodes and Kahl said they had no idea of the campaign against them. Rhodes said: “I was not aware, though sadly am not surprised. I would say that digging up dirt on someone for carrying out their professional responsibilities in their positions as White House officials is a chillingly authoritarian thing to do.”

A spokesman for the White House’s national security council offered “no comment” when approached. However, the revelations are not the first time that claims of “dirty tricks” have been aimed at the Trump camp. Special counsel Robert Mueller is leading an investigation into apparent attempts by Trump’s inner-circle to dig up damaging information on Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.

Of particular interest is a meeting involving the US president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr, his brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chair Paul Manafort and a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer who had promised damaging information about Clinton.

Trump has repeatedly signalled his intention to scrap the Iran deal, denouncing it as “the worst deal ever.” In a January speech the US president accused his predecessor of having “curried favour with the Iranian regime in order to push through the disastrously flawed Iran nuclear deal.”

Last Monday, Netanyahu, accused Iran of continuing to hide and expand its nuclear weapons know-how after the 2015 deal, presenting what he claimed was “new and conclusive proof” of violations.

However, European powers including Britain responded by saying the Israeli prime minister’s claims reinforced the need to keep the deal.

On Thursday the UN secretary general Antonio Guterres urged Trump not to walk away from the deal, warning that there was a real risk of war if the 2015 agreement was not preserved. The following day details emerged of some unusual shadow diplomacy by Kerry, meeting a top-ranking Iranian official in New York to discuss how to preserve the deal.

It was the second time in around two months that Kerry had met foreign minister Javad Zarif to apparently strategise over rescuing a pact they spent years negotiating during the Obama administration. On Sunday Boris Johnson, the foreign secretary, will arrive in Washington, hoping to persuade Trump to keep the deal, known as the joint comprehensive plan of action (JCPOA).

Straw, who was foreign secretary between 2001 and 2006, said: “The campaign against the JCPOA has been characterised by abuse and misinformation. It is the best chance of ensuring Iran never develops a nuclear weapons programme, and it is insane to suggest abandoning the deal could do anything but endanger international security.”

Pompeo suggests God sent Trump to save Israel
March 21, 2019 By Alex Johnson
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/pompeo-suggests-god-sent-trump-save-israel-n986136

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo suggested in a televised interview Thursday that God may have sent President Donald Trump to Earth to protect Israel.

Pompeo made the remarks in an interview with Christian Broadcasting Network, or CBN, in Jerusalem, where he visited the Western Wall with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

When the interview turned to Iranian aggression in the Middle East, Pompeo was asked whether he thought "President Trump right now has been sort of raised for such a time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from the Iranian menace."

"As a Christian, I certainly believe that's possible," Pompeo responded.

Remarking on "the work that our administration's done to make sure that this democracy in the Middle East, that this Jewish state, remains," the secretary of state added: "I am confident that the Lord is at work here."

Thursday is Purim, the holiday that commemorates the rescue of the Jewish people from genocide on the orders of Haman, a minister under the Persian King Xerxes I. The Old Testament Book of Esther relates that Esther, Xerxes' queen, persuaded the king to revoke the order, saving the Jews of the kingdom.

President Donald Trump heaped praise on his administration in Las Vegas on Saturday during a freewheeling, campaign-style speech before the national leadership meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition — an address that saw Trump pounce on Democrats and look to lift up the GOP ahead of elections in 2020.

“America is thriving, America is winning, winning, winning like never before,” Trump said. “We are respected again, we are respected again. It’s been a long time.”

His remarks came as part of a day-long program of Republican speakers, including Vice President Mike Pence and a handful of GOP congressmen, who gathered in a Venetian Hotel ballroom to hammer Democrats and boost Trump’s bid for re-election.

But the day’s speakers were dominated by the Trump keynote, which broadly touted White House victories on trade, taxes and Israel.

“The incredible bond between the United States and Israel will never be stronger than it is right now,” he said.

His speech was met by a friendly crowd, some adorned by cherry-red yarmulkes emblazoned with “TRUMP” on one side and the RJC logo on the other, others lifting signs saying “We Support President Trump” or “We Are Jews For Trump.”

Wearing one of the Trump yarmulkes was Sheldon Adelson, the CEO and chairman of Las Vegas Sands and Republican mega-donor who was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, who had a front row seat. Adelson received his own praise from the president, who thanked the businessman and his wife, Miriam, for being there.

“I think that was the most important thing that ever happened in their lives,” Trump said to the couple, referring to his decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. “They love it.”

He also thanked his son-in-law Jared Kushner, who is leading the Middle East peace process and was in the room, saying “peace in the Middle East — if they can’t do it, nobody can.”

His speech comes at a time when the White House and Republicans on Capitol Hill have seized on Israel and anti-Semitism as wedge issues among Jewish voters, hoping to split some off from a Democratic Party they’ve labeled as anti-Semitic in the wake of controversial comments from Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar earlier this year.

Evangelical approval of Trump remains high, but other religious groups are less supportive
BY PHILIP SCHWADEL AND GREGORY A. SMITH MARCH 18, 2019
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/03/18/evangelical-approval-of-trump-remains-high-but-other-religious-groups-are-less-supportive/

More than two years into Donald Trump’s presidency, white evangelical Protestants in the United States continue to overwhelmingly support him, according to a new analysis of Pew Research Center survey data. Other religious groups, however, are more divided in their views of the president.

Roughly seven-in-ten white evangelical Protestants (69%) say they approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president, according to the Center’s latest polling in January 2019. This is somewhat lower than Trump’s approval rating in the earliest days of his tenure – when about eight-in-ten white evangelicals (78%) approved of his job performance – but is in line with most polls conducted by the Center since the inauguration.

White evangelical Protestants consistently give President Trump high marksWhite evangelicals’ support for the president has been consistently high, and many prominent evangelical leaders, such as Jerry Falwell Jr. – the president of Liberty University – have steadfastly stood with the president.

Pastor John Hagee, founder of Christian United for Israel, discussed his group’s efforts to pressure Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) to remove a hold on the U.S.-Israel Security Assistance Authorization Act of 2018 in an interview with Jewish Insider’s Jacob Kornbluh.

“I can’t help but believe that Rand Paul is fully aware of the

political consequences of standing against this support of Israel

when Israel so desperately needs the help,” Hagee added. “We have 110,000 members in the state of Kentucky that are contacting him continuously and I’m sure that he has been made fully aware of that at this point in time.”

Asked how CUFI — which passed the 5 million-member mark this week — would work with a divided Congress in the next two years, Hagee noted, “CUFI is a non-partisan organization. We work with elected officials from both parties as long as the issue is Israel. We are a one-issue organization. Israel, Israel, and Israel. And if it helps Israel, we support it. If it’s opposed to Israel, we oppose it.”

Miriam Adelson hopes there will be a biblical ‘Book of Trump’
JUNE 27, 2019
https://www.jta.org/quick-reads

(JTA) — It isn’t news that Sheldon and Miriam Adelson are big fans of President Donald Trump.

The Republican mega-donors gave millions to Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016. But Miriam Adelson took it one step further on Thursday.

The Israeli-American physician compared the president to biblical prophets in an article in which she asked why he has not enjoyed higher support among American Jews.

“That this has not been the case (so far, the 2020 election still beckons) is an oddity that will long be pondered by historians,” Adelson wrote in an an article for Israel Hayom, of which she is the publisher. “Scholars of the Bible will no doubt note the heroes, sages, and prophets of antiquity who were similarly spurned by the very people they came to raise up.”

She went on to say she wished there would be a biblical book named after Trump in the future.

“Would it be too much to pray for a day when the Bible gets a ‘Book of Trump,’ much like it has a ‘Book of Esther’ celebrating the deliverance of the Jews from ancient Persia?” Adelson asked.

Last year, Trump honored the Israeli-born Adelson with a Presidential Medal of Freedom, noting her career in medicine and philanthropy.

TRUMP DECLARES HIMSELF “KING OF ISRAEL,” THE “SECOND COMING OF GOD”
BY BESS LEVIN AUGUST 21, 2019

The president is sick of “disloyal” American Jews, who apparently don’t know what’s good for them. But “Jewish people in Israel love him,” according to the crazed conspiracy theorist Trump quoted on Twitter.

Donald J. Trump

“Thank you to Wayne Allyn Root for the very nice words. “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world...and the Jewish people in Israel love him....

....like he’s the King of Israel. They love him like he is the second coming of God...But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense! But that’s OK, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for.....

In Secret Recording, Trump Associates Compare Him to Jewish Messiah
Lev Parnas can be heard explaining to Trump that the Messiah is 'the person that has come to save the whole world'
JTA and Marcy Oster Jan 26, 2020
https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/in-secret-recording-trump-associates-compare-him-to-jewish-messiah-1.8446673

In a secretly recorded video of a dinner with President Donald Trump, businessmen and Rudy Giuliani associates Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman draw a parallel between the president and the Messiah.

In the video Trump can be heard telling an aide to “take out” then-United States Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch during a donor dinner in 2018 at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. The video was released on Saturday by Joseph Bondy, the lawyer representing Parnas in the campaign finance violations case against the two businessmen who were part of the alleged effort at the center of the current impeachment trial to pressure the Ukraine government to announce an investigation into Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

Near the end of the 80-minute cell phone recording of the dinner reported to have been attended by donors to the America First Action Super Pac, Parnas presents to Trump what he says is a gift from “the head rabbi of Ukraine” and some rabbis in Israel. He explains that according to Jewish numerology, known as gematria, the letters in Trump’s name add up to 424, which is the same total as the Messiah.

The gift, which apparently references the numerology, can not be seen on the recording so it is not clear what it is.

“It’s like a miracle,” Fruman is heard telling Trump on the recording.

Parnas goes on to explain that the Messiah is “the person that has come to save the whole world. So it’s like you’re the savior of the Ukraine.”

When it is clear that Trump does not understand the significance of the numerology or the Messiah, Parnas tells him to ask his Jewish son-in-law, Jared Kushner, about it, saying that Kushner “will explain it to you.”
