Anyway, my central question is this: Did Doug Ross purposely crash the car,
thus possibly, causing his and Boulet's death?
Because we viewed the show at separate times and without each other in the
house, my SO and I differ on our opinions.
I say he did it on purpose because he had just indirectly administered a lethal
injection and was found out. Everyone had turned against him except Jeannie.
Before the crash, he and Jeannie were discussing how they were glad Doug had
did it because Jeannie herself would NOT WANT TO SUFFER THAT WAY. THerefore,
Doug too would not want to see her suffer and since his own life is crashing
down before him, he would crash the car and put them both out of their misery.
My SO says no that he simply swerved on ice on the road (which could be true),
and that he was saying, "hang on," during the crash (which I didn't hear, but
could be simply him changing his mind once the car has started swerving).
Jeannie was saying, "Doug, Doug," as in, "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh," (I say, as
in, "Doug, what the hell are you doing, doug."). Now the idea of Doug crashing
the car to kill himself (which if you ask me, is a poor way to commit suicide),
does go against Ross's character in my opinion, but I felt the scene was set up
to hint at this. Does anyone else agree, disagree, or have something to add to
the debate?
Also, does anyone think he'll die? The crash did not look that serious.
Course, you never know. But if he doesn't die, how will they write him out?
By the way, love the possibilities inherent in Romano taking charge of the ER,
although I think he is a jackass.

dead.

I agree that it was a bona fide accident. At the time, though, I had a
kneejerk reaction of "what the?", because it looked to me like he'd jerked
the wheel intentionally. I think that's probably due to a combination of
acting, directing and editing not quite making the scene what it was
supposed to be -- or possibly trying to make the end ambiguous. We'll see
Thursday, anyway.

Well, from what I've heard on interviews, I'm pretty sure George Clooney said
he'd be back as a guest shot on an episode in the future, I seriously doubt they'll
kill him off...
No, no, no, no! Doug is a doctor. This kid was hopeless. He only
assisted in shortening the kids life by hours. Jeannie is "healthy"
right now. She has her aids under control. The medications out there
are keeping these people healthier. This other woman begged Doug to do
something. Now you've got Doug just killing people because he thinks
they aren't healthy enough to be living. That's too big of a leap. But
I did notice that Jeannie was not wearing her safety belt and Doug was.

The previews for this Thursday seem to show him. But maybe his passenger
wasn't wearing a seat belt?

The only problem is Bochco and Smits said *exactly* the same thing about
Simone's character on "NYPD Blue", but they ended up killing him off
despite all this.
I don't put it past the people behind "ER" to lie this way either.

: Yeah
*Sigh* sorry about that - it posted it before I was ready (obviously).
What I was *going* to say was this:
Yeah, but this is NBC - they'd want Doug Ross alive so that they can milk
his return shots for all they're worth - I'm sure there will be about 3
visits next year. One in November, February, and May. NBC wouldn't kill
off a cash cow like that.

SPOILER
It was an accident. My guess is he lives and she dies. The car crashed
headon on her side.

Right on, sista friend. But why do you say this is because they're NBC.
Pretty sure the other nets would do it too.
Not to enter the fray again, but obviously
SPOILER
Doug lives, and Jeannie may have Hepatitis C. Do you think ER plans to kill
off Jeannie now? Has anyone heard of the actress leaving the show? Hepatitis
C quickly degenerates. Of course there is still the possibility she does not
have it, in which case I would once again have to condemn ER, not necessarily
for dropping the balls, but mining a car crash for cheap thrills if there are
no repercussions except to make the viewer wonder whether Ross lives or dies.
I'd like to think ER was above this.
