Tonight, when I try to visit the zap2it TV listings site I get a
warning that the page is considered an attack page infected by
malware. This is happening using both Firefox and Google chrome.
It's only happening when I click on the TV listings page, not anywhere
else on the zap2it site.

I scanned by PC and it comes up clean, so this doesn't appear to be
one of those fake warnings.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem tonight?

Yes, I just got that as well. Click on the link "Why was this page
blocked?" for more information.

This kind of thing happens every once in a while. Google will detect that
a website may be distributing malware. That doesn't necessarily mean that
Zap2it is doing something wrong; they may have been hacked, or they may be
carrying web ads that link to malicious sites. Considering all the ads on
Zap2it, it doesn't surprise me.

Moi aussi, with Firefox.

I hope the Tribune folks sort this out quickly, as I'm getting the
warning every time I change the listings to a different time, do a
search, etc.

Has anyone actually detected any malware coming from the site?

Patty, you could try http://tvlistings.canoe.ca/, which uses Zap2it's
interface, isn't infected with malware, and can be configured for the US,
even though it's Canadian.

Nothing for me, but I use the superior likes of Opera which few
hackers bother with. Personally, I don't think it's a hack or
malware, I think it's related to the ad for MasterChef on the listings
page that's messing with the code.

I looked at the site several times tonight and my antivirus didn't
report anything, nothing seems to have gone pr0n

... my poor primitive Internet Exploder didn't even warn me ...

I get the same problem but I'm not likely to ever get infected from
the site even if there was malware on it. I use Firefox with a
combination of AdBlock and NoScript so I never see any of the ads on
Zap2it. Didn't realize how many ads were on the site until I brought
it up under IE today, but even then nothing set off my anti-virus. My
guess is there was something that was provided to them by their ad
provider that did have malware but it either comes up very rarely or
was quickly removed from the list of provided ads. I would expect the
site gets removed from the list of bad sites sometime today.

Since there apparently was no malware, that would just go to show that ie8
works better than Firefox or Google Chrome.

I had a problem with the FOX MasterChef ad., after it had played out,
refusing to give way to the TV listings. For several hours yesterday,
I could not get past the ad. to be able to view the TV listings. all
I could do was scroll up and down the ad..

Hey, everyone, Tony is on to something here. Give it a try. Thanks, Tony!

I just tried the main Zap2It.com site again and got through with no
warning page. Everyone else, give it a try and let us know whether
it's working for you, too. Or stay on the Canoe site if you prefer. :-)

(Years ago, the Canoe site actually had a section about canoes. I think
it's gone now, but it was cute.)

Did they ever have a gnu in a canoe?

It's not the browser making the decision. The browser simply asks a
security monitoring service whether a site is safe or not. So this just
means that ie8 doesn't uses a different monitoring service, or maybe it
doesn't have this feature at all.
