How does she have a voice of a 10 year old white girl? You got some weird ideas
going on in your head, dude.

shame on you, Rob Cypher.
Rob Cypher is nothing but a little pissant behind a keyboard. His sig has
links to his dozen or so websites that no one except him looks at. Cypher
lives for the web and usenet because he's a loser, a social fuckup, a
maladjusted moron who can't interact with the real world.
This is a mutually exclusive comparison, right?
Lessee:
Miley Cyrus:
A young, attractive, talented, rich comedic actress with a great
singing voice selling out concerts, 5 multi-platinum CDs/DVDs, 2(soon
to be 3) movie DVDs, her own clothing line, and a best selling memoir
book... all accomplished by the age of 17.
Wanda Sykes:
A twisted, angry, hateful 45 year old lesbian 'comedianne' on
'Hollywood welfare' (reportedly awarded to her more because of her gay
activism and hateful rhetoric than any actually 'talent' per se.) Has
been labeled as a "female Perez Hilton".
Yep, I can see all kinds of similarities here.... <bfg>
Flint
Miley Cyrus is not talented, she is well produced.
God your music collection must be horrific.
> Miley Cyrus is not talented, she is well produced.
Actually, she is *both* talented AND well-produced. The two are not
mutually exclusive.
She *is* very talented *vocally*, and has been from a very young age.
Anyone with half a brain has to concede that much.
Is she a talented musician/songwriter with tons of musical
theory/composition experience under her belt? Of course, not. In that
regard, she's still a rookie, a work in progress. But I suspect that
unlike most Disney darling pop-tarts, we'll be hearing from Miley for
years to come if for no other reason than the fact she's a darn near
ideal blend of talent with telegenic presence/charisma. She does play
to camera real well, and to borrow a phrase from Madonna, "she gives
good face".
As for her being well produced, I have no disagreement with that
statement especially considering the industry heavyweights she works
with -- John Shanks, Glen Ballard, Kenny Ortega, etc.
> God your music collection must be horrific.
A rather presumptive non-sequitur on your part.
Tell us, just what constitutes a *good* music collection in your opinion?
Flint
Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Patsy Cline, Aretha Franklin, Janis
Joplin, Alison Krauss, Lena Horne, Gillian Welch would be a reasonable
sampler of talented female acts that someone such as yourself may have
actually heard of. Several of those women could actually play an
instrument and not one of them did a pole dance on a children's award
show.

With the exception of Ella Fitzgerald and Gillian Welch, I have songs
by all of the artists you mentioned in my collection. Of the names
you cited, I'm particularly fond of Patsy Cline.
As for the 'pole dance' thing, you might be interested to know Miley
has dropped that from her live show/tour and uses a bel-hop cart
instead to avoid the appearance of doing a pole dance. Personally, I
think the whole 'pole dance' thing was way overblown, and looked more
like an ice cream cart w/o the umbrella, and looked to me as though it
was there more for her to maintain balance while the cart was in
motion during her performance. She does one little deep knee
bend/squat on the cart, and all of a sudden shes 'pole-dancing'... sheesh.
As for being able to play an instrument, she also plays guitar and has
recently taken up piano, and is continuing to learn both. Like I said
before, Miley is an accomplished performer/entertainer, but as a
musician, shes still a work in progress.
Flint
> IT sure as hell isn't hannah montana.
Actually, you couldn't be more wrong. I guess some people are just
tired and age-biased old farts incapable of recognizing talent when
they see it, especially when biased by envy of someone who has enjoyed
success at such a young age. Its the old "I coulda, shoulda, woulda
been as big as her if my daddy was rich like her dad is" syndrome, I
suppose.
While I'm not particularly big on some of the early Hannah Montana
stuff either (ie: Seasons 1 & 2 soundtracks) particularly since it
they weren't written for my particular demographic, I have to say some
of the HM season 3 soundtrack songs are indeed pretty good, and really
showcase her vocal talent, and left her open it up a bit.
From the first time I heard Miley (when she was just 13) singing
"This is the Life", I just *knew* this skinny little kid named Miley
Cyrus was gonna be *huge*. Sure, the songs were sacharin sweet poppy,
largely unsubstantive songs, but that wasn't what I was hearing.
What I heard was a skinny (almost scrawny) little kid with huge set of
'pipes' and a strong contralto/mezzo-soprano range. And boy was I
right. She just keeps getting better over time. Roll the clock ahead
four years, and now she's belting out rocker tunes like "Kicking And
Screaming", and does a great live cover of "I love rock And Roll"
which she intentionally steered back to a more rock version (ala
Arrows/Joan Jett) and away from the Britney Spears butchered pop
version. In all of her interviews, she constantly gives props to her
influences (Joan Jett, Janis Joplin), and shows every sign of being
more *genuinely* influenced by *classic rockers* than any other Disney
darling to date. (Although after hearing Demi Lovato do an awesome
live cover of Aretha Franklin's 'Natural Woman', I hold out some hopes
for her too, but the jury is still out on her)
I've found that most Miley Cyrus 'critics' really only know of her
stuff as Hannah Montana, and have never really listened to some of her
other stuff like, "Simple Song", "Full Circle", or "The Driveway"
or my particular favorite: her soulful performance on "These Four
Walls". Listen to her voice closely on her live performances of
"Fly On The Wall" or "Start All Over", and then tell me shes 'just' a
sacharin coated pop singer only, and doesn't have a real female rocker
voice.

Fuck off, neocon.
I'm sure her Dad's music "connections" had nothing to do with her
being a "star".
But she is just following the path of Disposable Teen-Pop Stars that
Disney cranks out and dumps as soon at they grow-up.
Hmmm ... assuming their voices aren't completely blown out at that
point, and I imagine Disney's style of musicking wouldn't challenge,
much less harm their pipes very much.
These ex-kids would make wonderful recruits for cults. They could dish
out cult tunes and recruit their ex-fans.
And they already have touring skills.
As an active SubGenius, I guess I should look into finding out how to
tell Disney is about to dump somebody. Then, it's off to write a
teen-targeted pop cantata on the benefits and fun of following "Bob."

Actually, it *didn't*. *Disney* made her a star, and her dad had to
audition for his part *after* she had already got the role of HM, but
she pretty much auditioned for and got the role on her own.
That's not to say her dad's contacts in the industry didn't come in
handy later on as she branched out into recording -- I'm sure they
did, but by then she was already a star. If anything, her dad has
benefitted more from her success than the other way around.

Ever see that youtube of "vocally talented" Britney Spears sining with

With modern TEchnology, even Jerry Lewis can be made to sound like
Frank Sanitra.
The fact she works for "Disney" is another red flag. As soon as Disney
has extracted the "maximum stockholders value" of out any "star" they
make, that star is thrown aside.
Kinda like the Porn industry. Except the Porn industry treats their

I never thought Britney was all that talented vocally.

The modern technology you speak of is something I have some >small<
experience in having been a live audio FOH mixer for over 20 years,
and a studio engineer with experience ranging from the analog tape
days in the 80's to early digital audio tape(DAT), to the current Pro
Tools era. I'm well aware of just what can be done (as well as what
can't be done) in the studio.
Try to listen to her voice on these LIVE performances,
and *then* tell me she isn't talented. Lets see if you
have a truly discriminating ear (hence a *qualified* opinion)
or if you're just one of many envious elitist snob idiots
who can't see real talent when it is flat out staring them

she is going to be just another Disney child star train wreck.

Not only can she sing, but she can sing DAMN WELL

If this isn't talent, I don't know what is...
> The fact she works for "Disney" is another red flag. As soon as Disney

Normally, I would concur, but the Miley/Hannah franchise is new ground
even for Disney. They've never had the kind of success with anyone as
they have had with Miley. Keep in mind that Disney is a lot more than
just the Disney Channel. They also own Hollywood Records, ABC, and
frankly, Miley is the biggest cash cow they've ever had with a lot of
upside potential left in her.
Yes, she is well produced, but talent and production aren't
mutually exclusive things. Yes, she is a "pop" star. But I
get sick of the dismissive attitude that seeks to somehow
invalidate her as a legitmate bona fide performer/entertainer
because of either A> her Disney roots, or B> her daddy.
She obviously has the goods, and is for real. Sure, she's
had some doors opened that others would not have had, but to
her credit, she sure as hell ran with it, and made the most
of those opportunities and has amassed a couple of lifetimes
worth of experience and fortune in only just 4 years.
* Richest entertainer under the age of 25
* The Hannah/Miley franchise 'train' is On pace for
reaching a milestone worth of $1 BILLION dollars by
the age of 18. That is a feat NO ONE has ever accomplished,
not even KISS, MICHAEL JACKSON, or PAUL MCCARTNEY.
So to all the dismissive, arrogant, envious Miley haters, I have
only one question:
How does it feel to be shown up by a little girl from Tennessee who's
done more in 4 short years between the ages of 13-17 than most people
do in their entire lives?
> Kinda like the Porn industry. Except the Porn industry treats their
> girls better and they get a lot of protein
Really? I know of no porn star that has grossed nearly $120 million
in just 4 years...

Ooh, be careful Eddy -- statements like that might just get that DXM
kook Robbie Cypher to turn on you and get on yer case... ;-)
I quite agree. The crap she and her Dad have had to put up with from
armchair critics, and envious haters is downright *apalling* and
nauseating at times. Between that and the paparazi camping outside of
her home and stalking her all of the time, what amazes me is just how
well they hold up under it all.
I know why Robbie Cypher likes to crawl up my ass over the fact that
even older folks such as you and I like Miley. Hes such a loser in
life, he simply can't stand the fact that someone like Miley has so
much going for her that it just eats him up inside. So, of course,
anyone older like us who does appreciate her just *has* to be a
pervert or something. While freeks like him probably think we get an
orgasm over Miley, what he doesn't get that for some, we simply get an
EARgasm over Miley's voice. :) Of course, Robbie "The Cough Syrup
Kid" Cypher is simply *wasted* potential being a supposed 'genius' (I
wonder if he was ever MENSA certified? I doubt it), while Miley has
*realized* a lot of her potential already.
Next to the Divine "Ms.M" (Bette Midler), Miley Cyrus is probably the
hardest working girl in show business. How any sane individual can
criticize that is just beyond me.
Flint
Aside to Robbie "Syphilis" Cypher:
The next time you are on the prowl for some piss fries and the
syphilis-laden lips of some hooker giving you yer next blowjob, just

thought whatsoever...
I'm almost afraid to ask you to elaborate.
