Got one of these for Mom last week. It's swell in all ways but one:
It doesn't work. At all.
I finally got somebody to admit they're having a problem with their
network and can't activate phones.
So -- does anybody have one of these?
Has anybody ever activated one of them?
Are any of them currently working?
CVS Pharmacy refuses to accept a return on it. So at this point I've
dropped a couple hundred bucks on a hunk of plastic.
BTW - you CAN use it to call Jitterbug to complain! But that's it.
PS: Tater Mitts are a jip.

Why watch the Sci Fi Channel?
For every Flash Gordon, there is an Earthstorm!!

If you put the phone on your credit card, call the company and suspend
the charge pending your satisfaction.
Thanks for the heads-up about Jitterbug.
Yeah, it's all on plastic; I can file a dispute if it comes to that.
Mostly I'd like to find out if these things work at all, 'cause the idea
is great, and I'd feel better with Mom having it. I have no idea if I
hit an anomolous rough patch or what's the what.
I'll resume calling them tomorrow; figured it wasn't going to do any
good to pester them over the weekend.
Thanks!
Mine works like a charm. I think I activated it by going to jitterbug's
webiste, but I don't recall well enough.
You can add numbers by going to their website, but you have to "train" it
with your voice for "voice dialing." After I did that, I made a voice call
by saying "taxi" It asked if I said "hoxxy" I said "yes' and it dialed the
number. That "hoxxy" business is something common to all voice-recognition
software.
I've had no problems with it in voice or button mode. As my hands and
finger weaken, I'll try to build up the sides with some moleskin to help
improve my grip.

Website doesn't work either, but I'm assuming it's problematic because
the phone isn't activated.
Glad to hear somebody's is working and they're happy with it, thanks a
lot!
after 5 days, mom's phone finally activated -- sort of
Instead of saying "do you want to activate" it now asks if we want to
call hoboken pizza, at 858-555-1212
Of course, that's the only number we could call
And they apparently realized their website wasn't working, and it now
says "under construction"
So it doesn't make incoming or outgoing calls and the phonebook list and
website don't work, but other than that it's swell. :)
At least they're working on it . . .
More than a week now.
Every day they tell me someone will call me back, and they haven't yet.
Phone continues to say "Hoboken Pizza" with the phone number for New
York City directory assistance.
It did ring once (despite the fact that if you call it yourself nothing
happes) and, yes, it was a telemarketer.
:(
You should have asked him what number he was calling. Then at least
he'd been of some use.
I'm sorry about all this bad news about Jitterbug. I thought it was,
in principle, a great idea -- simple cellphones for older people who
just want a phone you can call people on. Unfortunately, it has to
work for them to be able to do that.
BTW, I think "Hoboken Pizza" is just a generic placeholder for display
purposes. It was a 555 number, wasn't it?

Hah. Was one of those boiler rooms, you could hear all the salesman
annoyng people en masse. They don't even know what number they called.

Yeah, I thought it was great. Unfortunately, now, even if it STARTS
working, my confidence in leaving Mom alone with it is shaken.

Yeah, 555-1212 with a NYC area code.
But isn't 555 a legitimate prefix now?
