I never watched it or the CW remake but used to think I'd catch up with it
someday as I liked the original French movie and the Hollywood remake. I
liked the first season or so of Alias which was kinda similar. I didn't
get the channel that La Femme Nikita was on. I think it was UPN?

I wonder how it holds up?

I haven't seen it since it ended, but I think it would hold up well. The
acting was good all around, even Peta.

I've been slowly re-watching it over the last couple of years, I think
it stands up very well.

There was a last half-season, added due to fan clamor after the show's
initial cancellation, that wasn't very good, but the four original
seasons were excellent in my eyes.

I just looked it up and La Femme Nikita was the highest rated cable show
it's first two years. I can't remember why I didnt get the USA channel at
the time. I did watch Alias and remember they were compared a lot though
Alias went off the rails fairly quickly after it's first season.

How does LFN compare to the newer, CW version, Nikita? I think I skipped
Nikita simply because I'm not a fan of most of the CW shows. They like to
cater to the tween girl market too much for me.

Nikita was fun enough and I enjoyed it, but it was a more modern, kiddie
version of LFN. The characters in LFN were much more threatening
(especially Operations and Madeline), the stakes more serious.

This is another one of those shows that if I ever rewatched, I would
stop watching about half-way through. The first couple of seasons were
quite good, as I remember. And season #3 was decent. But I would
definitely skip seasons #4 and #5 of this one - it was another show
that ran about 2 seasons too long, and would have worked much better if
going in they had just said, "We're going to do 3 seasons/65 episodes
of this, and wrap it all up by the last episode...".

The thing about "Nikita" is that a *lot* of interesting people turned
up in guest starring roles - for example, the first time I ever laid
eyes on Emily Hampshire was on a "Nikita" episode, and she was very
memorable in it. But she wasn't the only one, IIRC. ("Mutant X" was
sort of similar in this respect...)

There's an insanely long list of recurring and guest players:

Tween girls need catering; most of them are too skinny.

I agree with Robin - I enjoyed "Nikita", but it was a very different
show. In terms of episodes, "Nikita" never "hit one out of the park" as
I recall LFN doing on a couple of occasions.

But, just by casting Maggie Q in the lead, you're going to get a very
different, much more "physically vigorous" (and, thus, less
"contemplative") main character. Also, there was no analog to the
"Alex" character from "Nikita" on LFN, so right there that drastically
altered the dymanics of the show.

But I pretty much found "Nikita" to be consistently "entertaining",
even if it was never as "serious" as LFN. Also, "Nikita" managed a much
better series "wrap-up" than LFN did, IMO.

I remember enjoying LFN.
In fact it was my favorite show at the time.
However, I can't remember any of the guest stars,

I meant to include this video, which has then and now shots of the main
cast, although whoever put it together doesn't seem to know that Alberta
Watson passed away:
