Jeff Heapy is the guy who will tell you 'That Didn't Suck' in the
Carvana commercial.

...and he is in that cheesy Cracker Barrel commercial.
...and he is in that selfish Taco Bell commercial.
...and he is in that Kohl's fitness motivation commercial.

How is it that one 'nobody' actor can suddenly get cast in multiple TV
ad campaigns?

Jeff Heapy's IMDB page consists of 6 entries, 5 of which have under 30
ratings.

He gets (or is solicited by) a new agent who oversells him within the
first year. After that, the agent hopes he can place the now-familiar
guy in a TV show. Otherwise, it's to the trash heap he goes.

4 national commercials likely makes him a multi-millionaire. Why would
he care if he never gets another acting job...especially considering
that he basically never got one to begin with.

Not very many of these guys has ever said, "You know what? I've made
enough money selling crap to people. I think I'll retire." Actors
generally want to work, or at least the good ones do.

I think you're overestimating how much he stands to earn from these
commercials.

Probably not a millionaire, but since most actors spend most of their
time waiting tables and going to auditions, he's certainly a success
among their ranks.

I just watched the Taco Bell "sharing sucks" ad. It ends with "Oh, and
don't share this ad". I watched it on ispot.tv, a video sharing site for
ads. :)

A statement that translates roughly to: 'please make this go viral'.

That is an excellent site for tracking down the cast of various TV
commercials.

Meanwhile Adam Lisagor is the creepy Century Link slacker who's now
hawking cars. He apparently directs his awful ads himself. He claims
to have 75,000 national airings. Even if he only get $100 a pop, he's
long since set for life ...
He used to do FX for bad movies:

It is amazing what some people make in compensation for
'entertainment'/sales. I read a week or two ago about some porn star
who made millions last year off a Youtube channel just opening kids toys
and talking about them.

This makes me wonder how Natalie Portman can get so many roles that she
is totally unsuited for. I guess it's who you know.

It doesn't boggle me so much that they made the money as that somebody
paid it ...

Ken Levine's blog has a thoughtful piece today about how animated films
now commonly have big names to do the voices instead of people who know
how to do voices for animation, and how these artists are being
squeezed out. There's also stuff about commercials voiced by stars you
never see (Julianna Margulies is one example).

This has been going on for, what, two decades. It's pretty rotten that there's
no way to make a living as a radio actor any more.

FOX was all atwitter about having stars do the voices for ANASTASIA. I
could never figurer out *why* - I understand why they're useful to have
somebody go on Jimmy Kimmel to hawk the movie, but besides that ... my
best guess is it makes the suits feel like they're making a 'real' movie.

Of course, they did it in the stupidest way possible. First they spent
a fortune setting up an in-house recording studio, when there were
plenty of better ones within 10 minutes travel time. Then they brought
in all the stars and had them record a rough draft of the script (and
not work together, to insure flat readings), and then rewrote the
script, decided they couldn't afford to keep rerecording the name actors
so they hired voice doubles, recorded THEM, animated to those voices,
and then brought the real actors in at the end to dub the whole damn
thing!

Why didn't they just do a live action movie?

They did. And then they traced it to make 'animation'

It is driving me crazy that this guy is in every commercial I see now... His agent is killing it.
