The arithmetic would work if they had just made Adam 14 in 1950 instead
of 8. It would have squared better with the apparent age of the actor
who played Adam in 1960, too.

Exactly. They agonize over tiny details of chronological accuracy
elsewhere, but left this bit all askew.
