1) I think every scene that CBS showed of William will not play well
with viewers.

William making Brittany cry he looked almost like a bully. He looked
foolish with that apology about the prank. Showing William go on and on
about Jordan's rear was getting embarressing to watch.

If the voters are going to be predominately tv viewers then i don't
think William stands a chance. I think this episode broke it for him.
Sadly i think it may end up boiling down to the argument with Brittany.
I think many white viewers are going to see Brittany as trying hard not
to be racist and gets knocked for it by William especially the comments
about her best friend. Yes it was nice that William tried to be nicer
at the end but those tears will be what viewers will remember and her
defending her friendship.

The producer i am sure is furious over that stunt William played and i
think they are trying to make him look bad. CBS i think succeeded. I
thank god i read more of the background of these discussions. Thanks to
those who posted info about the live feed. I do appreciate it. :)

Even the apology about the prank looked so forced and nonsincere. Karen
looked a bit upset Curtis didn't seem to care.

2) Curtis and Josh may just be in love with Jamie. I do not think they
will ever vote against her.

3) I do think the implant talk really hurt Jordan a bit. It does appear
Josh does not like her before the implants talk and will like her less
now. I wonder if she will tell him her career? Although he did badmouth
exotic dancers. I suspect they will vote against each other.

4) George acted like a complete buffoon over the making of bread. Has he
ever stepped inside a kitchen before? All i could think of is Beavis and
Butthead.

Overall still interesting. I don't like how CBS is now singling out
William so much. Actually in the last 2 days he has looked really bad
with viewers - yesterday it was the prank and the uncaring attitude
about the hurt chicken.

I think any good drama needs an antagonist. It would be quite dull if all
we had were an agreeable , timid bunch. Also,it's about time somebody
pointed out to Jordan that she has a flat, ironing- board- type
ass!!(exotic dancer or not). Personally, I hope the beauty queen wins it
all. She's gorgeous and unpretentious.

William is an unpleasant person. He appears arrogant, uninformed and
antagonistic. I doubt whether CBS created his persona. Let the chips fall
where they may. I, for one, find him obnoxious and sexist.

I do not think they created this persona either but they do appear to
be showing him the most and showing what seems to just be horrible
moments he has with the other residents.

Based on what i have read in RAT he does not seem to have only these
really awful moments. Yet CBS only appears to show him at his worst.

Unless i have been misreading many of the comments in RAT and he really
is unpleasant.

Based on what i see on tv yes i agree. I really wish i was watching the

Please make sure that your header reflects the fact that your posting
is about Big Brother. In your haste to reply to Tropea's comments you
didn't bother to fix Outlook's deletion of the nice "BB" that Dan

I agree. It hard to create a persona when episodes air 5 days a week
and it is almost live.. If the other people were pulling pranks and
making other people cry they would show that too! But William is the
one doing that! Now if Big Brother didn't air the fights you would call
them fake! How you gonna say that they're making him look bad? He's
making himself look bad!

It's sad to say it, but I've been watching a LOT of the feeds, and I have to
admit that CBS has been editing Will in a very representative manner. It
seems like they must be giving him the short end of the stick, but they
really, really are giving the essence of what I've seen from him on the
feeds. He's pretty much always exactly as he is in what they show.

Money. I'm surprised that they didn't show the foot massage conversation
between Wlliam and Jordan. They'll focus on slight flirtation between Josh
and Jordan, but they won't show a foot massage between William and Jordan.
They realize that it may show a more sensitive side to them.

To William's credit, he hasn't pulled the race card. He could totally say
that it would be racist to boot out the black guy for not being a passive
Uncle Tom.

They could simply show a few more seconds of footage to make William look
better, but they don't.

Porcelain doll comes to mind, but I like scary puppet better. It's sad that the
beauty queen is the least attractive woman on the show and the women on the show
aren't that great. Jordan and Brittany are attractive, but not incredible.
Karen is a nice looking woman and was probably a trophy wife. Cassandra is an
attractive woman with a very nice look and demeanor.

The think about Brittany's friend, Sheila, is that she's just a co-worker.
Before she realized how false and unfriendlike her "friends" were, she didn't
even consider Sheila one of her "friends." Sure Sheila was one of the 10 most
important, but they never did anything outside of work and now Brittany doesn't
work their anymore.

Brittany and William attack each other. How can Brittany mock William, "Oh you
think you're a man?" and that not be called attacking? She's just
hypersensitive. Just because William isn't crying his eyes out doesn't mean
Brittany isn't attacking him.

The funny thing is that William didn't start that conversation ("I didn't start
this. I don't want to be known as the guy with the red, black, and green
flag...). He and Cassandra were talking about how the show was probably boring
and how chores weren't interesting. Brittany joined the conversation later and
they just began to grate at each other.

But Big Brother just shows them arguing leaving you to think William started
it.

Bruce i have to state i agree Jaime is not all that beautiful. I think
what makes her not pageant beautiful is her mouth and chin. Her chin
just doesn't look right. She has wonderful hair and eyes but her mouth
and chin the shape is a problem. I think she is still extremely
attractive but no where near close to Jordan.

You really think Brittany is attractive??? I like a more natural look
and Brittany lacks that. Her hair is hideous and that ring on her face.
Just not my style for looks. Cassandra i agree is very attractive and
Jordan is beautiful. Karen is far nicer looking then Brittany.

Again all people see beauty in different ways. I just find Brittany not
my type.

What was the prank? They never explained it, as far as I saw, so if you
hadn't seen the previous episode, it was hard to know.

The show is such a bore, it's even worse than 'The Real World". This was
the second show I saw (I watched 10 minutes of the first episode, which
incredibly enough was even more boring), and most likely the last.

I've listened some to the video streams on the Web, and that's kinda
fun, like overhearing people talking in a restaurant or something. The
show is just godawful. I guess this is how those (weird :-)) people who
don't like "Survivor" feel about that show...

You are sooooo right! I've noticed several posts saying that William's negative personna is based on what CBS is showing
us, but I've based my opinion on what I seen/heard on the internet feeds. If I was in that house, I probably would have
already had several arguments with little Mega by now. He's a mind game "playah" who has no respect for his housemates
and fully deserves to get a quick boot. The only drawback, of course, is that, as the first one kicked out, he'll get to
make all the talk show rounds before the novelty wears off. Of course, that may have been his plan all along...

Brittany is, quite seriously, close to what I would consider ideal,
aesthetically.

I find Jordan to be very attractive, and I've quite surprised. She's
not my type.

The beauty queen (Jamie?) is hideous.

Cassandra is very pretty. And best of all, she seems to have a
personality. One of the few on the show.

I agree. CBS does a good job to select the clips without bias to present
each daily life as BB is watching. Most people watching the livefeed will
agree. William seems a typical lower class black male. Angry, sour,
antisocial, anti-nonblack. Arrogant and self-pity at the same time.

Exactly! She has a freaky chin, and her features are scrunched up a
bit.

Mmm, Brittany's gorgeous. She's not really non-natural with the makeup,
it's just the hair and nosering. I adore her hair, though. It's such a
pretty color and she wears it in those adorable little pigtails
(anywhere from 1 - 5 so far). And I have a thing for nose and eyebrow
piercings. Oh, and certain types of lip piercings, too. She looks so
cute with the nosering.

And she's got the fair skin and she's not horribly thin. In that way,
she's very natural.

But, I like my women smart. _Very_ smart. And Brittany hasn't shown
that. I also like them to share my taste in music, and I don't think
she does. She has the look of someone who does, but not the taste. :)

My perfect woman would look a lot like Brittany, but have a different
personality.

No, I wouldn't boot William out for not being a passive Uncle Tom since
the whole race issue is a sideshow and doesn't give "credit where credit
is due." No-o-o-pe. I'd boot him out for "the main event": 1) for
relieving his boredom by purposely irritating or making other's
uncomfortable. (And, frankly, relieving *his* boredom wouldn't be on the
top of my hit parade) and 2) for blatantly flirting with almost every
woman in the house under the mistaken belief that any female he turns
his attentions to would find him titillating rather than annoying.

William probably tried to flirt with her earlier and got henpecked.
(Sorry.) Actually, I think the poor dear was trying to "pull a Sylvia
Plath" in an unsuccessful attempt to escape this turkey.... I mean the
show, not William, although....

Sandy - pretty sure Brittany wouldn't know who Sylvia is.

Good point! I hadn't thought of that. Unlike "Survivor" where the first
one was voted out simply because she was the "weakest link"
for the group competitions, being the first voted out of the BB
house carries a good deal of infamy as being the radical that
rubbed America the wrong way. It's very possible the first voted out
will get more media attention than the winner.

That depends on the terms of the contract signed to become a contestant.
They may be under a gag order until the show is completed or is
cancelled, similar to Survivor.

At first I thought maybe it matched some criteria for correcting bad-Re:
(such as the various mistranslated versions spread by earlier (same?)
versions of the same software), but looking back, maybe it saw the "aka"
and though there was a subject change going on and sought to trim the
fat inappropriately.

Then again, it could be endemic to the manner in which the followup was
constructed. For one thing, the entire message was cited but was not
marked as quoted with ">".

BTW, the correct way to denote a subject change is (to use yours as an
example):

Subject: BB-TV and Outlook?? (was: Re: The William Show - Dan T's
comments)

You don't just throw in a new subject before the "Re: ". This is a
convention that dates back to the original rn newsreader, possibly all
the way back to readnews. (Preservation of the "Re: " after "(was: " is
optional.) To aid subject-grouping newsreaders in following subject
changes, a standard syntax is necessary. (Though, unlike "Re: " (which
is not an English abbreviation), it is appropriate to translate (where
articles are regionalized) the "(was: ".)

Not your fault, mind you. You might just not have been taking part in
newsgroups with a more senior postership and had no good examples from
senior role models. Me, I've been on Usenet for years. I predate the
Deja.com archive's database. I even predate the AOL invasion, back in
the days when you could set your calendar by the number of clueless
newbies, before The Dawn of the Neverending September.

Doubtful. William would be revealing little that they don't already allow
you to know from the internet feeds. However, they may be watching their
back and shunning the free publicity William making the rounds would
provide. He would be everywhere for about two weeks till the next person
gets voted off. That's constant publicity.

The Survivor gag order is MUCH more important than one for BB would be.

Fawlty the irony is i tried watching Survivor and just did not like it.
I will try again this Wednesday.

I think the problem with Survivor is that its such an icky place. The
thought of living on that island is just gross. Rats everywhere and no
reasonably modern bathroom facilities are just turnoffs.

But BB is at least enticing. I wonder how well i would do surviving in
that house. Also the characters are at least easy to relate to.
Survivor well i don't understand how these people can stand being there.

i probably would not be watching BB if i did not get hooked on 1900
House.

Also its the summer so all the shows i would normally watch are
reruns. This gets watched by default. I would not watch this show come
the start of the Fall season. If BB2 is not a summer series i will skip
it. Though i doubt CBS could do this show between October and May

Amen.  This is what I find offensive about William. I think the
points he raised about race with Brittany are valid and genuine. The
prank was just that; and it could have been funny, and I
think the other houseguests would have thought it was funny
if he pulled it off. It was no big deal. He pissed off the BB
people by not being able to resist continuing to mess
with Karen after the gig was up...or *would* have been up if
it had been anyone else but Karen.  I think most
practical jokers would also find Karen hard to resist.<G> Some
of the *other* stuff he does is manipulative, though. That is not to

I doubt it as, unlike Survivor, there are no spoilers. People are kicked
off on live TV.

Incidentally, apparently the info I posted about the live shows a few days
ago was a bit inaccurate. Either I misheard Brittany when she reported
the info she was told in the red room, she was mistaken, or BB changed
their minds.  CBS is advertising that *this* Thursday's show will indeed
be live.  That means the houseguests' nomination votes will be live as
well as the revelation of the results of the viewer vote a week later.

His flirtation has declined somewhat. I think that's kinda how he gages
people. It's still pretty silly, but he's not flirting as much. Even
during the foot massage, he wasn't really flirting with Jordan. Josh is
one to worry about in this area. He has a bunch of condoms and nowhere to
use them.

You totally missed it. And the white people on BB are the same way. What is
it with these white people - they are the black guy's worst enemies. They
think the black guy should arrange his life to accommodate their needs.

Face it. You want a white guy in a black body to be your token black guy.
You watch "reality," but can't stand a black man being real. You'd love it if
your black guy came out and said "why wasn't I born white" or "yes massa Big
Brother I won't pull no mo' pranks."

For many black men, racial identity is the most important part of their
personality, a part a house full of white people often can't understand. When
they decide not to try to understand, they decide to not to try to really know
the black man. That doesn't make for a comfortable living atmosphere.

I didn't see the foot massage on the feed so I don't know exactly when it
happened.  If it happened after they started editing the last show
and the next show is a live show, the answer could be as simple
as bad timing.  I'm not arguing that they are not trying to make
William look like a total bad guy; and that they are not avoiding
showing us anything positive about him. They are clearly doing
just that. However, I don't think *not* showing the scene
between William and Jordan is necessarily part of that agenda.
It seems the two of them playing each other with that "It's
you and me against the world, babe," stuff could fit right in
with that agenda.  The thing with William and Jordan could
make for good TV, not because I believe they genuinely
care for each other; but just to see which one will
out manipulate the other.

I'd love to see how Megalomaniac Will would behave in house with a majority of

I'll bet he wouldn't be pulling this bullshit with them. He wouldn't dare.

Every second he's on Big Brother, William plays the race card. That's his

And, when he gets thrown out of the house, he'll make the most of it.

Okay, these posts just prove that the hatred of William on this group is based
on his race, not the exaggerated characteristics you keep mentioning. For one
thing, he was in the room first and he eventually left. It wasn't like he got
in a screaming argument with the girls. Second, since when is there something
mortally objectional about flirting. Would it be okay only if the white men
were flirting with the white girls? Also, do none of you have a since of
humor? It was a prank, and a funny one at that, no one was hurt. Of course
the prank was manipulative, that's the point of pranks. Next, would anyone on
this group really cry over a chicken? If you're racist, just say so and admit
that you hate William because he a black man with character. Don't try to
contribute it to his hardly offensive behavior.
P.S. What makes you think William is lower class?

That's bullshit. There are 5 women, 5 men, 2 bedrooms. On the very
first night, less than an hour after you first met a bunch of strangers,
only an idiot would think that the rooms weren't going to be Boy Room / Girl
Room. Yes, his stuff was in there first, but all five girls showed up
in the doorway together and it was pretty damn evident that that room was
going to be the Girl Room. So, either he could gracefully get his ass out,
or all five women could have gone to the other room and kicked out the other
four men. Which option makes more sense?
Instead of being graceful and light about it, he starts trying to
get in their pants. (Yes, that's how women feel about men trying to

I completly agree with you. It's as if being black is somehow
interpreted as a rejection of standard culture. It's the train of
thought that governs passive racism, an affliction on the white psyche.
I agree with William. I happen to find him the most interesting and
appealing facet of this otherwise mundane and thoroughly boring show.
Fuck the white people if they can't relate.

No, because since there are more of them, they're called the white guys in
the house. When you're in the majority you can just say the black guy isn't
"going along with the group."

The thing is William is getting up early and doing his chores. He's not
slacking off or anything. He's just talking about things that are important
to him. Race is important to black people and scares white people. That's
why it's so divisive

William isn't perfect, but at least he's being real. I respect that much
more than the actors on the show playing nice-nice. If it wasn't for
William's subtle influence like his suggestions in Truth or Dare the house
would continue to be boring.

Absolutely right. Mega's being accused of playing the race card
as if he's guilting others into something. I haven't seen him use
race to any manipulative advantage. The whole problem seems to be that
he challenged Brittany's presumed friendship with her coworker and that
hits too close to home for many of us. He's flamboyant, no doubt, but
that's never the main objection. I think he is very uncomfortable around
white women, and ends up attempting to adjust by being childishly
egoistic sometimes.

The reason the "BB" was dropped by Outlook is that there is a known
issue with the program. Pretty much the program drops any text before
a colon or dash on the silly assumption that anything before the colon
or dash is a "re" and not needed! Naturally MS has been told about
this issue going back to early releases of Outlook Express but they
have so far refused to fix it.

This is a continuing issue on soap newsgroups and posters using
outlook are gently told about the issue and goaded to be careful about
putting the proper subject header back in before they post.

The ass discussion wasn't degrading, telling a woman she's a fat ass
would be degrading. As for Brittany being on the verge of tears, she
should think more about what she says instead of yakking all the time.
As soon as something she said is challenged, she's tearful. What kind of
personality is that?

Mega's real shortcomings are in talking too much sometimes, and killing
conversations when they are not about something that interests him. He
could also take that hat off once in a while.

That is very presumptuous to say about white people and it's also
generalizing. Race is important to all ethnic groups.

i am caucasian-american, but i don't see myself as being neutral. as an
caucasian american female, i have been in situations where i am the only
white person in the room, and, i think its human nature to perhaps have
a certain kind of awareness as a result of that situation. i know this
is a delicate issue and people of all races can be easily offended by
this line of discussion, so i don't mean to do that at all. i would say
that the experience of being the only person of a certain race in a room
full or house full or classroom full of people who are all of a
different race is probably an experience that has happened to african
americans as opposed to caucasian americans.

this type of depictment is crass and unnecessary. why would an african

serack, although there may be people on this group who dislike William
for his personality and not because of the color of his skin, from what
i have read so far today, i agree that you are correct in surmising to
the contrary. the remarks which include words like 'typical lower class
black male' and 'bozo' reek of hostility. apparently, there are those
out there who can not intelligently get their point across without
reducing themselves to sterotypes and name calling.

flirting is no sin. especially with attractive men.

Well said.

It's just for black people, you're often the only person of your ethnic and
racial background in a situation, so you're very sensitive to it and it's
important to you.

Nah, most of the beautiful women I know (I live in Washington state and
know many women more beautiful than Jamie) think beauty pageants are for
losers with no sense of self-worth and wouldn't be caught dead competing
in one. Beauty pageants are very lame up here, like they were talking
about on the show, the atmosphere up here is not at all like it is in
the south with regard to beauty pageants.

I don't expect Washington to ever produce a Miss America or Miss USA,
but then, hardly anybody up here even cares.

I don't know many white people who pride themselves in their racial heritage
and primarily identify themselves as white people. The only groups I can
think of who do that use it to veil racist and anti-Semetic philosophies.

Do white people think about themselves as white people?

It is exactly that. OE will try to correct thread headers by removing
anything that preceeds certain characters. It assumes that they are old
"Re:" headings and aren't needed anymore.

OE is stupid.

Even OE doesn't try to correct for poor followups. Also, if you're
talking about Dan's message, it was indeed quoted with leading
greater-than symbols, but excepting the first, they were all missing
preceeding line feeds.

readnews recommended keeping the "Re:," but it wasn't required.
Nowadays, it's pretty much standard, but still unregulated.

Of course, this is all covered in the RFCs. 1036, S-O-1036, mainly.

Look at this whole newsgroup. I don't think they've _ever_ had
knowledgable role models (with a few notable exceptions).

Sorry I think William is a jerk.

On one hand he acts like the world should revolve around him - on the other
hand he cries that he should be treated equal.

I agree that having William around would provide conflict and make the show
more interesting - but if I voted, I would vote him out, to knock him on his
ass, and teach him a lesson.

William is a bully.

William seems to be hitting on three of the white women. What's the deal
with that? Is he going to luck out with the law of averages?

It seems more like harassment, than flirting.

He should realize he is becoming an embarrassment.

I'd like to see a spinoff with mentally and physically challenged people.

A show with phobics (claustrophobics, et al) and obsessive compulsives would
be novel. Throw in a couple of people with Tourette's Syndrome as well.

Jordan doesn't smile. I can't see how she makes a lot of money as an exotic
dancer if all she does is gets tips from ONLY dancing.

When Brittany is punked up with the 5 magenta pony tails, piercings and the
green lipstick, her picture would do a lot of good on a Viagra bottle - AS

Actually, no it doesn't. Unlike "Survivor", "Big Brother" is essentially a
real-time program. Once a player is out of the house, nothing he or she
says gets back inside, and there's nothing anyone could say that would spoil
the outcome since the rest hasn't happened yet. CBS is probably COUNTING ON
a big media interest in interviewing the first few out of the house.

A promo during "Survivor" showed William telling Jordan that he thinks the
housemates will pick him and Cassandra on the first ballot. Cassandra is
just about the most pleasant, quiet and non-threatening person in the
house. There seems to be only one reason that William thinks he and
Cassandra would be targeted, and I think that says more about his attitude
than anything else I've seen him do or say yet.

People who wouldn't vote against them besides him:
William - Jordan
Jordan - all the guys except Eddie and the girls, esp. Jamie
Brittany - everybody because she's the focus of most of the group action
Jamie - all the guys and Jordan
Karen - Eddie and George
Eddie - George and Karen
George - Karen and Eddie
Curtis - Jamie and everybody else because he's so nice
Josh - ???
Cassandra - ???

His thinking probably changed after the truth or dare revealed attractions and

I agree. Cassandra and Curtis are the nicest ppl in the house.
It maybe a blessing for them to get voted out first. The longer they
stay on, greater chances of their reputation going down the toilet.
So far, they seem to have clean slate.

Curtis seems to have photographic memory. I like these 2 alot. They
are both reserved and don't reveal everything at once and then revel
on it for hours end.

Megalomaniac Will IS creepy. Very creepy.

He has no sense or concern for other people's physical and emotional
boundaries. He invades everyone's personal space.

He regards the women strictly as sexual objects. The only reason he pays any
attention to them is to try to get them in the sack.

The man's a complete phony.

To add to the sweeping generalizations about race, I know many whites who are

That's not race, that's ethnicity. I can't look at someone and tell they are
Irish or Italian or whatnot. Race is skin color and physical features. Race is
an arbitrary biological construct with social implications. White people aren't
big on being white. Only when they are the minority does it matter.

Funny. I can sometimes, but since European immigrants assimilated so well and
their is no stigma between intra-European interethnic marriage.

You're making lazy points. Race is an important social construct that has been a
primary divider in this country since 1492. If you have dark skin you can't blend
in like someone who's ethnic heritage spans everything west of Asia.
