April 2, 2010 - Wrestler Chris Kanyon was found dead in his Queens New
York apartment due to an apparent overdose. Initial reports indicate
that it is a possible suicide. He was 40 years old. He may have won a
lot of fights within the ring, however this long fought fight he lost.
As a young man, after graduating college, Kanyon worked as a physical
therapist for three years, while wrestling on weekends and in the
evenings. He finally decided to become a full-time professional wrestler
in 1995.
In October 2001 Kanyon tore his left ACL during a match. He underwent
surgery with Dr. James Andrews in Alabama and was sidelined for a period
of time. In May 2002, Kanyon was cleared to compete and was sent to Ohio
Valley Wrestling in hopes to restore himself to full fitness. However,
while wrestling in July 2002, Kanyon injured his left shoulder. He
underwent surgery but during his hospitalization he developed a
medication reaction that nearly cost him his life. He gradually
recovered and was discharged from hospital after having lost 32 lb in
the interim. Health issues would continue to plague him for the rest of
his life. In 2006, Kanyon, along with 2 other professional wrestlers,
attempted to sue WWE for "cheating them out of health care and other
benefits" but a federal judge dismissed the case.
Kanyon’s work was often dark and depressive. One of his personalities
was Mortis, which is a Latin word meaning death. This personality he
played was an amalgamation of two characters from the fighting game
Mortal Kombat. They were Reptile and Scorpion. In 2003 he returned to
the main Smack Down roster, emerging from a crate dressed as Boy George
singing the song “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? He opponent he was
singing to was The Undertaker, prompting The Undertaker to attack him.
Late in his career he admitted he was a homosexual which cost him a lot
professionally.
Locally, Kanyon is remembered for his arrest in October 2004. He was
arrested in Ybor City Tampa Florida for disorderly conduct and resisting
arrest. He publicly claimed he did nothing wrong and he as attempting to
break up a fight. He was released the same day on bond.
Kanyon won the World Championship Wrestling Tag Team championship twice.
He also won the World Wrestling Federation WCW U.S. championship once
and the WWF Tag Team championship once. In spite of these
accomplishments the most important battle of his life he has appeared to
have lost.

No. The guy who wrote that is the lowest form of life. Chris Kanyon
struggled with bi-polar disorder and sadly it was depression from that
which caused him to end his life.
