PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The City of Philadelphia shut down a career fair
for ex-offenders today after an unexpected crowd of thousands showed
up, résumés in hand.

There were lots of disppointed job seekers and potential employers
this morning.

The city was expecting about 1,000 people to show up, but about three
times that number were standing in a line that wrapped around the
Municipal Services Building, across from City Hall.

And when someone jumped the line, order collapsed.

There was no yelling, no shoving — just 3,000 people all trying to get
into the job fair at once.

Everett Gillison, the deputy mayor for public safety, says the space
designated for the event could not handle the crowd, so they closed it
down shortly after it began.

“We took as many résumés as we could,” he told KYW Newsradio
afterward, “but those that did not have résumés, we told them we were
going to reschedule. And we are going to reschedule it for the
Convention Center.”

Of course there was frustration.

“People want jobs,” said one man. “In the city right now, with jobs
it’s just ridiculous trying to find one. It’s almost impossible.”

“It’s really hard out here,” another man said. How long had he been
trying to get work?

“At least two years now.”

Gillison says 25 employers were on hand for today’s event. Last year,
he said, 1,000 people showed up and 435 people got jobs, so this year
they advertised through “partners.”

Then, Gillison says, it got on social media and snowballed.

Assuming you don't look at the $17 + trillion dollar national debt, the $
trillion dollar + annual deficit or the fact that Obama has added $3.26
billion dollars to the national debt every 24 hours since he came to power
four and a half years ago. And that does not include the $2.6 trillion of
additional debt that Obamacare will cause.

America is drowning in debt, millions of Americans are still unemployed,
millions more have just given up looking for jobs and the jobs we do have
are going overseas to China, India, and the Philippines. We just had a
terrorist attack in Boston, a terrorist attack that killed four Americans
and destroyed our embassy in Benghazi and Iran is closer than ever to
developing a nuclear weapon. Not to mention that there is a huge scandal
in the IRS as a direct result of the political dirty tricks used by
Obama's re-election campaign.

So yeah, if you ignore the facts and keep your head buried in that Obama
kool aid bucket, things look just fine.

You have a real unemployment rate of 16%. The only reason you can
pretend it isn't that bad is that they don't count people who have
quit looking for work or those unemployed for longer than 8 weeks,
which is huge. Your employment insurance program has been providing
for some people now for over THREE YEARS, unheard of since the
Depression.

The deficit estimate has declined a lot in the past month. I think
it's about $600Bish.

Some was the tax hike, some was the expiration of the withholding
reduction, some is the sequester, some is employment gains and people
returning to taxpayer status. Some is other things. But it's a
significant year-over-year reduction whomever is responsible.

Sure you can credit Obama. Not because of any particular thing he did
but because he's the guy in charge as the economy is picking up. It's
the way things work. The President gets blamed for when things go bad
(and Obama certainly was blamed by some people when the economy
continued to sink as he took over) so why not give him credit for when
things go right.

Personally I think the President and Congress can do a lot to sink an
economy but not so much to pick one up. The best they can do is stay
out of the way and hope things turn around when the economy is down.
