the earliest instance of it I could find was an October 5 2009 article,
illustrating and article about Dollhouse being in danger of being
cancelled.

Looks to me like some serious treadmill time went into that and to be
sure Dushku was MUCH more :"buff" in a muscular sense in Dollhouse
than in Buffy / Angel.

Perhaps it's a publicity shot from the Saint remake which was one of
the more 'muscular' action shows that didn't involve car chases.
