I just recently turned on the TV, and it was on TBS. The movie, "The
Whole Nine Yards", was being shown. There was a scene that showed a
nude woman. There were at least 2 shots that clearly showed her
breasts. I'm not sure if there was any full frontal nudity. Not having
seen the movie in theaters or on home video, I'm not sure if later
shots of her were zoomed in to cover up any nudity.
I don't have cable. I have the network channels delivered to my house
by the cable company. A few months ago, for no apparent reason, I
suddenly got around 9 new channels, including WGN and TBS. They are
considered cable; right?
Anyway, I was just wondering what TBS' rule is for showing nudity (not
that I mind if it's shown; it's about time).
Also, is "Sex and the City" edited in any way for TBS?

Yes. Anything that might be the least bit interesting is completely
excised.

It would be kind of funny if it showed up twice cause you are posting
about tits.

Ah yes, Amanda Peet. <sigh> I bought the dvd mostly to see her in
her glory.

I don't think so. I'll have to play it again to check.
I'm pretty sure we see her "sweet ass" though.

They dub in something else for "fuck". They do let them say "shit". Nip/Tuck
on F/X allows that too. I'm hearing-impaired and can read lips so I can pretty
much tell when the dubbing is. I think they've dubbed in something for "pussy".
They have shown mens' bare asses. I have read the synopsis on televisionwithout
pity.com and noticed some sex scene stuff has been taken out. They've also cut
out some harmless stuff for time reasons I guess. I've just started watching
the show on TBS so I don't have anything to compare it to.

If their was no Parental warning before the show the editors probably just
missed it.
so that means nothing has been excised, then. :)

(really, i find nothing the least bit innersetting about SitC)
I wonder if it was a mistake, since TBS would seemingly be one of the last
channels to start crossing boundaries.
Actually TBS has been leaving a lot of adult content in the movies
they've aired in the last few years. They've even gone back through
their library and re-edited older movies to reflect this more
permissive stance. I guess their mindset is they need to do this to
compete with more adult channels like FX.
Maybe it was just a slip. A few years ago I was watching some old
movie on the local channels, and suddenly a woman stepped out of the
shower displaying her large breasts. This was the middle of the
afternoon.
Obviously that was a violation of FCC standards, but probably just
someone forgetting to add a "blur" to the tape.

They probably discontinued the network only tier and so now you are
getting the lowest tier they offer.

All I know is, they edit language to the extent that I avoid watching
them.

Yes it is edited.
Yes, basic cable. Maybe your cable company added them to the tier you
subscribe to.

Normally, they edit out all nudity. Occasionally, they show backside
nudity ala NYPD Blue. If they really did show naked breasts in that
movie like you said, then that's a real step in the right direction.

Yes, for the most part, all the good stuff is edited out. Only the
occasional bare butt is left intact.
That's good to hear, but outright breast shots? Even FX doesn't pull that
off, they always pull punches in one way or other.
Right. Despite what a lot of people think they saw, FX has never gone that
far. Some of the dialog on shows like Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, and The Shield
is extremely graphic and sexual. Definitely R-rated stuff. Many would even
call it obscene. I guess the only thing more obscene is a shot of a female
breast. That's why they avoid it like the plague.

You mean they've completely removed Cynthia Nixon from the
show? How bizarre.

I don't remember if it was TBS or TNT, but I remember being surprised
at the TV movie "Helen of Troy" from last year or the year before. It
showed the Helen in a diaphonous gown that didn't leave much to the
imagination, as far as breasts go. I didn't think they would allow
that stuff on TV unless it was pay-for cable (like HBO).
That was before we had access to FX. We just got FX this summer, to
my never-ending joy. Since then, I've grown accustomed to FX, and I
don't think the "Helen of Troy" would suprise me now.

I think that was on USA.

So, you're saying they run it uncut then?
