Bryant Gumbel was only asking Todd questions that a lot of people wanted
to know the answers to. Todd is always on the defensive.

Hate is a pretty strong word. Why do you hate Bryant Gumbel? What has
he done to you? Evidently, you don't know him! Maybe you are just a little
green with envy (jealous) of this handsome, intelligent African American
man who is making lots of money. He does his job well and a lot of us admire
Bryant. The Today show was a success long before Bryant joined it. He
never said that he made the show successful.

Turn the mirror around and look in it. You have a serious problem.
The Today show is a part of the news department at NBC. Letterman is
entertainment. Some of us like to know what's happening in the world.
That's why I watch the Today show. I can look at Arsenio Hall for
entertainment.
He did it a VERY fiesty attitude...that was the problem. He could have
asked the questions in a different tone. You didnt see Katie Couric attack
Danny Bonaduce (although she was throwing softballs at him)? Oprah didnt
attack Todd, but the same questions were asked. Its just Bryant.

Bryant gets his rep from the Sports Illustrated article, from his feuds with
Letterman, from the memo incident, etc.
And if Friday's interview with Bridges wasnt enough, he got Robin Givens upset.
Seems he introduced her as a tabloid queen, and then asked her really dumb
questions ("How does your movie compare to Harlem in the 1950s?" She of
course replied "How would I know?"). She ended up walking off the set.
This is from USA Today. Since it was a taped interview, TOday show is
still debating whether to show it or not. I must admit I have never been
a Robin Givens fan, but she looks INCREDIBLE in her new movie.

Today is a news show ?? Now, that's funny.

Forget "hate". How about "can't stomach the thought of listening to"?

I have a "serious problem" because I choose not to get my news from
"The Today Show?" You mean all of us who get our news from the newspaper
should seek help? And why do you mention that you can look at Arsenio
for entertainment? Is that somehow better than Letterman? (I don't mean
funnier. You state it as if it's the answer to those who want to watch
"The Today Show" and still be entertained.)

You seem to be implying that I'm racially opposed to Bryant?
If so, what makes you think I'm not an African-American?
Can you tell by my typing?
>I can look at Arsenio Hall for entertainment.
I think you have the more serious problem. Your judgment seems to be impaired.
I get the feeling you ignore the personalities and automatically favor the
African-American.
(How did you decide who's side to be on when Bryant fought with Todd Bridges?)
(Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Arsenio when I want to bark like a
dog and use hip phrases like "... give it up for ... [usually Eddie Murphy]".
I don't personally think his show is worth watching, but I think he's funny
outside of it.)

Considering what he's done and what he's gone through, defensiveness is to
be expected.
Of course, he never HAD to publically admit to his drug problem.

And you do? He's a friend of yours??
Seems pretty silly to me that people are always thinking they know a great
deal about an individual they say for only a tiny sliver of that peron's life,
under totally abnormal conditions... Just because someone seems nice on TV
doesn't mean they are in real life. Or Vice Versa. Danny Devitto, despite the
nasty character he played on Taxi and in other movies, is reportedly a very
nice, friendly and warm guy.

Clever producers and writers, and reporters behind the scenes make the show
successful. The hosts are just front people, essentially actors or show men.

Yeah. That's why I skip media-hype crap like the morning news and talk shows.
Nothing informative in those... ABC Nightly News, now there's something with
a lot of damn useful information and quality reporting. Not to mention
Nightline.
