In episode 1 of this season, I got that Mike found the tracking device
in the gas cap of his car and that he then planted a tracking device in
the gas cap of another car. What I missed is how he knew what car to put
it in.

I don't mind that I occasionally miss things like this. I enjoy it that
this show makes me work to keep up with it, rather than just pouring a
simple-minded plot over me as I sit in my recliner, drooling.

What Mike did was drain the battery on the tracking device they planted,
then planted his own tracker in his own gas cap. When the other guys
came and changed out the gas cap for one with a fresh battery, they
inadvertently took Mike's working tracking device back with them. Then,
Mike tailed the first guy (who had retrieved what he thought was the
dead tracking device) back to the chain of others whom he is now following.

Agreed. BETTER CALL SAUL is an excellent show.

+1

I can't find any fault with it. It's paradoxical, in that a show that's
about assorted crooks & flawed individuals is so uplifting because of its
excellence.

I remember that now. Thanks.

Ok but how explain the change of call from station wagon at junk yard to Chrysler in front of his house? Airtight plots on this show, just wondered how they can explain this?

I can remember at least one occasion when Mike made a transaction at a
used car lot. It suggests to me that Mike trades cars whenever he feels
it's necessary to keep from being made, and may have done so at the junk
yard too. Not that it necessarily works.

How could Mike be sure none of the people surveilling him would realize that THIS ISNT THE CAR WE PUT THE BUG IN?

That seems like a huge plot hole.

It was the car they put the bug in. Mike replaced the bad guys' bug in
Mike's car with one of his own in Mike's car.

Mike destroyed the POS station wagon trying to find the bug.

Thee was another one in his other car.

Thats my point. Mike tears apart to find the bug in the station wagon, finds it and puts his modified bug back into his regular car. Or are you suggesting they had bugs in both cars in the same place and never were concerned about Mike suddenly destroying one of the cars? It still seems like - if not a plot hole - poor exposition.

I'm not sure why you think that's a plot hole. The station wagon was a
beater Mike was using for surveilance and illicit "work". The other car
was his family car.

Once Gus and his men found out who Mike was, they bugged both cars. Mike
tore apart the station wagon and still didn't find any bug till he realized
they had just replaced his gas cap. Once he found it, that was the first
place he looked in the other car.

Two bugs, one in each of two cars. Mike is very smart and plans ahead.
It makes sense he would have a "throwaway" car just for situations like
this.

And he didn't put a modified bug in to his car. He went out and got a
new bug of the same model and put that in his own car. Then he let the
battery run down on the other side's bug so they would come out and
replace it. When they did so, they took what they thought was their own
dead bug away with them, allowing Mike to track them.

It demonstrates why its not a good idea to put the bugs in the same place in both cars.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention closely enough but I didn't realize they had bugged both.

Also that they weren't suspicious of Mike destroying the wagon or at least Mike was concerned they would be suspicious seems like - if not a plot hole - at least a soft spot.

The station wagon was a beater tho. it was designed to be gotten rid of if
Mike needed to. He could have had it crushed for all they knew.
