I don't even know if anyone else is still reading this newsgroup, lol.
But just in case...

I just want to say that overall I'm pretty happy with the results of
the Six Chair challenge as well as the judges houses. Even though I
was doing some armchair screaming at Sharon and Nicole during the six
chairs challenges, lol.

I think that Louie has the weakest category this season, and Simon has
the strongest. A couple of those groups are killer. But there are
some very memorable, likeable and very talented singers in every
category; I can easily see a real star being born from this year's
X-Factor. Of course, there is also the usual mix of "throwaway"acts.

My only concern is that they sprang on us that the viewers get to vote
back one contestant in each category who was eliminated from the
judges houses. I'm afraid that's begging for another "Wager"
situation where the public is going to bring someone back who will
push better, more talented singers out of the competition.

I have no clar-cut favorite at this point... but I'm leaning towards
The Cutkelvins, the sibling vocal band. That girl has a dynamic voice
and delivery. We shall see.

Typo. That should have read, "Wagner" (of course)

I'm around. I usually don't start following more seriously until the Finals (the Live Shows) start.

So no one got hosed? :)

That's about the point you have to take a look at this as a show looking for an X-Factor (Rylan's season would've been a great jumping-off point of this). There are already other shows simply as purported singing competitions.

I was reasonably happy with the judges' choices. A good mix. I know
other people weren't, which makes the wild card vote good, regardless of
whom they choose to bring back.

Sometimes when I listen to records from way back I think that the
singer, or group, would never have got through the first audition - or
if they had, people would be moaning they couldn't sing as well as
others. Yet these people have strings of hits behind them now. There
is always more to it that being the best singer, if the aim is to sell
records.

Not that the all winners manage that too well!

Yes, the girl from Anguila (a British territory) who was really good
and I thought should have made the top 3 -- but she was eliminated at
Judge's house. In between the Six Chairs Challenge and the Judges
house, she had gone back to Anuila and was there with her family while
the category 5 hurricane was flattening 90% of her island. I'm not
big on backstories, but it got to me when she was so emotional that
she couldn't sing at first at Sharon's judge's house. And when she
finally did sing she was too choked up to sing well.

Then, it was kind of chilling to me when Sharon made her decisions for
her category for the live shows and she said to Deanna, "I'm sorry,
but I'm going to have to send you home." I thought that was a poor
choice of words. Can you imagine after getting through the X-F
auditions, boot camp and 6 chairs challenge and to the judges house
only to be sent back to a damaged home and to a life with no
electricity for the next several months, high heat and humidity, the
entire economy destroyed, no food or water sources other than
emergency supplies brought in. It sure made me thankful for what I
have thinking about that.

side of the pond. Any idea what happened Kat?

That's very true... and very true of all the various singing
competitions. America's much-lauded "The Voice," which basically is
what finally pushed American Idol off the air, has not produced one
single real recording star from among its winners in all of its 12
seasons of overmilked, overdone, dragged-out twice-a-year seasons.

He was disqualified, above table.

Drugs. During filming of the show, no less.

My first thought too.

The fact is, I think most of the people who would try out for something like this are either producer plants (potential winners) or people with enough of a flaw that they would be if they hadn't had them.

We've seen a number of finalists blow their chance disqualification-level (and not all above-table DQs either)...
