Here is a work-in-progress episode guide for The Sweeney.

The Sweeney
-----------

Guide Compiled by Dave Chapman
{da...@cheers.demon.co.uk}

13 Oct 1994

Hard-hitting 1970s police series.

Starring:

Det. Insp. Jack Regan ................................. John Thaw
Det. Sgt. George Carter ......................... Dennis Waterman
Det. Chief Insp. Haskins ........................ Garfield Morgan

Created by ................................... Ian Kennedy-Martin
Title Music by ...................................... Harry South

The series was originally entitled ``The Outcasts'', then changed for
the pilot film to ``Regan'', and then finally to ``The Sweeney''.

There are 53 episodes, the pilot TV film ``Regan'' and two spin-off
cinema films, ``Sweeney!'' (1976, 89m) and ``Sweeney 2'' (1978, 108m).

Only the first and last airdates of each season are confirmed. The
airdates for the first two seasons are extrapolated from the start
date, assuming one episode each week on the same day. There are more
weeks than episodes for the third and fourth seasons.

UK Gold (a UK satellite channel) has been reairing the series on
Tuesday evenings, repeated a few weeks later on Saturday. That
broadcast schedule is listed at the end of this guide. Note that four
episodes (so far) have been skipped, but the first three of them are
available to buy on video. Other than the skipped episodes, UK Gold
has been airing them in the correct order.

It might be worth putting in a line of explanation on the name,
espcially with overseas viewers in mind. I think there may be a
caption in the credits somewhere with the phrase repeated over and
over "Sweeny Todd Flying Squad", but even then the connection may
not be understood.
