No I didn't! Bother. Was it a one off, or a whole new series? What time is
it on ? and which channel?

I'll tell you as soon as I've seen it, but I'll bet there's no one on it who
speaks as slowly as Kenneth Williams used to!

It's a regional variation being shown in London, I think. It's been
going for a while. I've never seen it due to living at the other
end of the country, but everything I've heard about it suggests that
it's total crap and a travesty of the radio show.

: Is he deceased?
Yes (Kenneth Williams), for several years now, I'm afraid.

Matthew mat...@rd.eng.bbc.co.uk My opinions, not Auntie's.
I think everybody has the same reaction when they hear it's on TV - me
especially because ITV nicked it! (It must have been going on for so many
years that the Beeb never copyrighted [or whatever] the name - compare with
"Classic FM Gardening Forum" - which [as GQT] had also been going on for quite
a long time, come to think of it.) I haven't watched it but see that Paul
Merton, Nicholas Parsons and Clement Freud were all on it.
It's the second series on TV and they still do it
on R4, so I don't think it will disappear from there. It's in the Saturday
12:27/Monday 18:30 slot, but not at the moment. Add an hour (most of the time)
for CET.
Happy 2 oblige on both counts.
The night of Thursday 14th - Friday 15th April 1988.

Nicholas Parsons seems to do his best with the guests he has on the show
but for me, there will be no-one to replace the late, great Kenneth
Williams in the radio version. His vocal talents were superb, and as he
proudly claimed in his diaries recently published, he regularly stole the
show (usually from Derek Nimmo!)
I think the younger guests on the TV version (Tony Slattery, Tony Hawks)
etc tend to detract from the impact of the show if you are used to the
radio version, but for new viewers they carry it pretty well.
PS I applied to Brunel but ended up in Portsmouth for four glorious years!
Regards...

Yes.

I've been listening to JAM since the early or mid 80s, I can't
remember which. (Oh, how I miss KW!) I watched and listened to
the last series (both the TV and radio versions), and I liked
them both, in spite of their differences. The TV version has
to be the way it is to work, in my opinion. I actually like
the two Tonys, so this is not a problem for me. In fact, it's
the old timers who don't work so good on TV.
Curiously, Peter Jones was on LBC yesterday, and Siman Bates cut
to a commercial just after they had discussed NP (PJ commented
on how "well preserved he looks these days (-: ), and it was NP
plugging JAM on ITV. SB made it obvious that he expected that
commercial, and I appreciated the joke.

I thought they went down quite well on the radio version, I haven't seen
the tv version so I can't compare.

'Fraid so. Certainly before I left England (mid 1988).
(Which to change the subject means that of the original Hancock team,
only Bill Kerr is still alive).
