She is almost type-cast these days as an edwardian young lady...she played
Elizabeth in Kenneth Branagh's version of "frankenstein", and all her roles
seem to involve her dressing up in big frocks with big hair. I suppose you
would be inferring that someone was a bit stuck up and boring/pompous if you
called them "Helena Bonham-Carter", although I can't abide AbFab so I've never
seen these references

A few more TV appearances:
Arms and the man
Dancing queen (with Rik Mayall, comedy; she played a stripper)
a short dramatization of Beatrix Potter's life as a young girl
A dark adapted eye
The Gallery (a short, semi-silent film with Tony Robinson; she played a
pick-pocket)
a sketch with Jo Brand (UK stand-up comedian)
She's also used by Yardley in their cosmetic ads (both in print and on TV).

I've never seen AbFab, either (I read this group even though my cable company
sucks so bad, they don't provide CC), but Helena Bonham-Carter I do know a
little more about. She was also Ophelia in the recent version of Hamlet that
Mel Gibson was Hamlet in, and she was the main character in "Room With a View".
I thought she did an excellent job in Hamlet, but then, what do I know about
Shakespeare? :) I'm sure she's been in other things, too, but those are
the ones I remember.

Almost, but fortunately not totally type-cast, as she proved very
nicely in Rik Mayall's "Dancing Queen", where she played a stripper.
Simon.
She was also in a particularly inadequate episode of 'Miami Vice'

I always thought it was because whenever Helena Bonham-Carter gave any
interviews she always came across as somewhat of a "miss goody two shoes"
type of person, which is exactly what Saffy's character is.

Actually, its because Helena B-C looks EXACTLY like Saffy.

I think Helena Bonham-Carter was excellent in "Dancing Queen". It was
really interesting to see her play such a radically different role
than the costume drama roles she usually plays, and she acted very
convincingly in it.
Though of course I have to admit a certain bias due to seeing her
topless in the strip-tease scene! :-)
Harry.
Yes, I agree, she was very good in "Dancing Queen"
Speaking as a Yorkie, she even made a good attempt at the accent.
One of my fave bits was when they were in the train together heading for
Scarborough and Rik realised he only had a one way ticket and she said in a
deadpan voice "Well, yer buggered then arn't yer " - excellent !

Helena Bonham-Carter is an upper-class actress (or at least with upper-class
looks and accent), who was fantastic in "Room with a View". She's also done
other Merchant-Ivory stuff and was recently in Frankenstein.
She has the best hair *EVER*.

The first Rik Mayall Presents, "Micky Love" was repeated after the
new three. Does anyone know if the other two from the first series
are due for a repeat? Particularly Dancing Queen, which was the
best of the lot to date.

What about her performance in A Dark Adapted Eye. The Barbara Vine book
which hit the small screen Xmas 94. I thought she was OK and she even
managed to play a 14 year old girl.....to be quite honest she passed that
off better than being a)her real age and b) older.
There were som othr good actresses too...anyone remember who?

Well, as someone who tried last night to find it in the local Video City,
the answer appears to be that it's more obscure than one might hope.
I'll keep looking.

It's an episode of the series Rik Mayall Presents, and was released
in the UK on video shortly after the series originally aired a couple
of years ago. Don't know about US availability, though.

Not to be too picky, but Lee Harvey Oswald's wife Marina was actually
Russian, not Romanian... He married her while he was in Russia in the
late 1950s. I believe conspiracy theorists point to the fact that he had
a relatively time getting back into the U.S. as an indication that he had
some secret links to the U.S. government.
