We've been trying to remember the characters in the old children's TV
programme "Bagpuss".

So far we've remembered Bagpuss himself, that saggy old cloth cat, baggy
and a bit loose at the seams (but Emily loved him!), the mice on the
marvelous mechanical mouse organ, Madelaine the rag doll, Professor
Yaffle, "a carved wooden bookend in the shape of a woodpecker"; but ah,
here's the rub..... we simply can't remember the name of the frog in the
rocking chair with the banjo.

Anybody got any ideas?

I think he may have been called "Gabriel the Toad" (or maybe I'm thinking of
something else). BTW, I called one of my cats Bagpuss after this programme,
but she just gets referred to as "Baggy" now!

Wasn't it Gabriel?
BTW I thought he was a toad, not a frog! 8-)

The frog was actually a toad and was called Gabriel.

The answer is Gabriel (sp?) and he was a toad, not a frog.

Thanks for a question tricky enough to have me shout out the answer during
a reasonably important meeting!
