Thanks Aaron
About a year or 18 months ago someone (Sorry, I can't recall his name,
and it would take me a while to find his postings) posted the reason for Eve
Matheson's departure. Evidently she was offered a role she had always wanted
to play by the Royal Shakespeare Theater, and she left to play it. The guy who
posted this information was/is dating Frances White's daughter (Frances White
plays Miss Flood; I've forgotten her character's married name) so that is
probably about as official an answer as there is.
It has been discouraging to watch the actors leaving this show. I
thought Clive Francis, who played Miles Henty, was perfect, and losing his
character was terrible. I too have "gotten used to" the new Zoe (Robin ????;
I'm terrible with names in spite of trying), but the show just isn't the same
without Eve Matheson. I noticed that the later episodes were being written by
writers other than the series creator -- I've totally forgotten his name; John
??? -- and the relationship between Zoe and Alec seems to have become a lot
more antagonistic. Most people I know who argue all the time like they do now
have divorced. It's just not as enjoyable as the earlier episodes.
>However Hillary's sudden departure from the show may be unbearable!
>Does anyone know who the actress is / why she left????
Rebeca Lacey is the actress, and I agree, she is absolutely marvelous.
The interplay between her and Miss Flood was a complete show in itself. The
same source of information about Eve Matheson had warned that Lacey was
leaving. I think it was so she could pursue other roles. I would imagine
actors in succesful series worry about being type-cast or unable to find other
work when the series ends because they are so strongly associated with a
character. If Frances White or Anton Rogers or Paul Venables leaves/gets
replaced I think I'll have to stop watching.
So -- does anyone know what Eve Matheson and Rebecca Lacey are doing
now? I know Eve Matheson did a Lovejoy episode which aired on A&E this past
May, but I have not seen nor heard of her since. I am so taken with the job
both these actresses did on "May to December" that I'd like to try to keep
track of their careers -- or at least see them in some of their new roles.
Anyone with any information? Post it or e-mail, and thanks in advance.
