Ahhhh, your remembering the lunchtime ITV children's
programme "A Handful of Songs", which used as it's
theme tune Tommy Steele's old hit of the same name.
"I've got a handful of songs to sing you.
Can't stop my voice when it longs to bring you,
New songs and blue songs and songs to bring you,
Happiness, no more, no less"
I can't for the life of me remember who the singer/
presenter(s) were. I recall a man and woman and I
can picture the woman's face but I can't put a name
to her. I've got a vague feeling that she was one of
the Play School presenters...

the song's called (not unreasonably) "Handful of Songs" and was an old
1950s record by Tommy Steele. The TV series you're referring to was an
ITV lunchtime show from around 1975-6 (something like that) called (not
unreasonably) "Handful of Songs"...

Haven't we just covered this one?
The programme was called "A Handful of Songs".

This song was the theme tune to a 1970s children's TV show called - you've
guessed it - "Handful of Songs"
Made by Granada and transmitted at lunchtimes, it featured a man and a
woman (can't remember the names - Maria something?) singing "children's
favourites" type numbers with funky bad attitude (OK - a six string
acoustic guitar).
The theme tune was a reworking of a popular song from (I think) the 1950s.
The words are as follows:
I've got a handful of songs to sing you.
Can't stop my voice, when it longs to bring you,
New songs
And blue songs
And songs to bring you
Happiness.
No more, no less.
Moreover, wherever we may roam to
Or any shore that we may be blown to
You'll find that we're always feel at home to
La bella
Music-a.
Jazz and Cha Cha Cha
Calypso and street vendor cries.
Strains of old refrains.
Sleepy time baby lullabies.
I've got a handful of songs etc etc etc
I'm sorry. I know it's sad. But my elder brother used to make me watch it
when he was baby sitting me during the Summer Holidays because he fancied
the woman presenter.

The Granada show ( 'Handful Of Songs' ) was hosted by Rick Jones, who
was also a presenter on Playschool and later became the totally top
'Yoffy' on 'Fingerbobs ( Remember?.....Yoffy lifts a finger and a
mouse is there!' ) and ( And i'm 'definitely sure on this one!) Kathy
Jones who later played Tricia Hopkins in Coronation Street.
Kathy left Cs after a couple of years (1976 ish) and is married with a
family and is, sadly, now profoundly deaf.
She was an absoloute poppet when in CS!

There was life before Coronation Street
but it didn't amount to much.
