Hey, I'm serious!!!
I don't remember but I was told that "Out of the blue" and "Ai No Corrida"
were
among them. I'd just like to know what films I've actually seen even if I
am
unlikely to ever (legally) see them again.
I should point I was after the LIST not copies of the films themselves
as that would be illegal and I am as honest as t'day is long.

The only title I can remember is of what I think was the first one to be shown - it was called
"Themroc".

thanks. I seem to remember the first one being in French and involving a
man bricking himself and his daughter into the front room of their flat,
then
knocking out the front wall for some reason.
strange what you remember.
Also, a couple of Japanese(?) ones, one about a couple who lived in a house
at the
bottom of a pit ( ai no corrida???) and one which involved a girl who
carried a rabbit
everywhere and ended with a nuclear explosion.
Anyone else???

'The Clinic' was one: an American comedy set in a VD clinic. The
pull-quote for the film was 'Even the laughter is contagious!'
I recall that it was fairly awful.

I think eating a policeman was involved too (?) - but yep, the one you describe was "Themroc".
I remember that the Swedish film 'Montenegro' was shown, but I fell
asleep.
Although I plead for clemency as these were shown late on a Friday night
in 1986/7 and I had only just got back from the pub most times.

apparently so. I only mentioned it as someone else told me it had been
shown as
part of the series. Admittedly I thought it was unlikely but still....

I'll look up the plot and see if it rings any bells.

uh
huhhh
thats nearly as good as my "i was only a pubescent teenager
and didnt know any better" excuse...=)
and i wasn't trying to make you feel old.
to be fair though, it was a brave move on Channel 4s part and,
on a personal level, made me realise there was more to films
than Dirty Harry (erm...probably an unfortunate choice, that).
Given the choice between staying up late to watch that kind
of "dirty" obsucre arty films and watching a
split-over-the-news-and-cut-to-shreds Bruce Willis "epic",
i know which way Im leaning
Anyone know dates when they were on ( are those years about right??)

I think that there was a french film in this series called Bof, which
involved an unusual relationship between this bloke, his wife and his Dad.
One classic scene has man and wife at the dinner table, she asks him what
he wants for pudding, he says the usual, and so she stands on a chair and
pops his head up her skirt.
Incidentally The Clinic was mentioned in another post as being an American
film, when in fact it was an Australian/New Zealand effort.
I also remember a couple of scenes from films in this series, but dont
know what films they were from:
A turkish guy walking around with a knife embedded in his forehead ( a
later scene has him showing off his scar after the knife was removed).
A sexy latino woman dancing in some strip joint naked whilst some guy
drives around a radio controlled tank with a dildo mounted on the gun! The
dance ended with the woman taking pleasure from the tank (off camera) to
much applause.
Its amazing the things you remember about watching the telly when youre
supposed to be in bed.

What was it called?
19/09/86 Themroc (1972 - "Invented Language")
03/10/86 Pastoral Hide-and-See (1974 - Japanese)
10/10/86 Throw Away Your Books; Let's Go Into the Streets (1971 -
Japanese, TV Version)
17/10/86 Identification of a Woman (1982 - Italian/French)
24/10/86 Pixote (1981 - Brazilian)
31/10/86 The Clinic (1982 - Australian)
14/11/86 Montenegro, or: Pigs and Pearls (1981 - Swedeish/British, with a
Yugoslavian director!)
28/11/86 No Mercy, No Future (1981 - West German)
10/01/87 Out of the Blue (1980 - American)
17/01/87 The Wall (1983 - Turkish)
"Red Triangle" is actually a bit of a misnomer - it was a white triangle
with red edging. The offical C4 term was Special Discretion Required, or DSR.

Wasn't Sebastien (sp?) also part of this season and wasn't this also the
only time an erect penis has been shown on UKTV?

If I answer that question, I'll become known as "that bloke who has every
'TV' & 'Radio Times' since 1984" :-)

No, that was screened as part of C4's 'Banned' season in 1991 and more
recently after Derek Jarman died. In both cases the film was cropped, so
the stiffy wasn't present. What did cause the furore was that there was a
documentary in the 'Banned' season, during which Jarman explained the
background to the shot in question. Basically, when it was shown to the
BBFC it was at a ratio that cut this particular detail off the bottom of
the screen - it was passed with an X certificate (similar to a US R)
because they didn't know it was there! During this interview, however, the
full scene was playing on a screen behind Jarman, so the erection was
visible, albeit slightly blurred, but it was obvious enough to suggest that
the only people who would complain were blokes who'd feel a bit inadequate
in comparison!
Quite correct. In the original showing of the film, they got round the
problem by simply zooming-in a bit on the appropriate frames in their
telecine, thus moving the "member" off the bottom of the screen.
The documentary which *did* show the scene was one about
sex-in-the-cinema in general. Ch4 got a rapping from the ITC for it
because they showed it at 9pm during the Christmas holiday season. The
other curious thing about this was that it showed Jim Ferman visibly
getting upset whilst watching cut scenes from "Deathwish" in his office,
claiming in a next-to-tears voice "this is very difficult to watch".

ouch.
But then I'm going to be "that pervy bloke who wanted the list
of dodgy films" =)
I have to ask though...WHY do you have all them???
Just to make you feel less sad ( well, than me at any rate) is there
an online archive of the aforementioned magazines????
Scott

What he doesn't mention is that he's only missing the July 7th - 14th
issue of TV Times from 84 and he'll have the lot.

Was this the one with the deranged girl who thought that Christ had
returned and wanted to have sex with him? (cue: sex with paraplegics in
lifts during firework displays, sex with enormous black convicts on
sheets drenched in blood)
If so, I'm glad I now know its name so I can give it a very wide berth
in future.
You're right about "Themroc" though. Great fun.
