Does anyone know anything about David Jason's flying interests? I
understand that he is in to gliding, helos etc. I know that he flew at
the London Glider Club. I would be interested to find out anything
that you may know for a new website I am developing.
Regards
John Davies
Don't know much, but in a flash of helpfulness I've just grabbed "The Only
Fools and Horses Story" (by Steve Clark) from the shelf, and found this
paragraph, relating to the episode "Tea for Three" where Trigger's niece
Lisa turns up and Del ends up going up in a glider:
"Del has been braggin about his exploits as a paratrooper and Rodney decides
to stitch him up - and make him live up to his boasting - when he is offered
the chance to go hang-gliding. David Jason, an enthusiastic glider pilot,
was keen to do his own stunts as Del took to the skies, over Butser Hill in
Hampshire.
'I wanted to do it,' he says, 'But they wouldn't let me, for insurance
reasons, so they got a stunt man instead. I could see their point of view
because when you are filming a series you'd be in real trouble if your
leading man broke his leg or something because it would delay filming.' "

Speaking of David Jason.... Anyone watch his Touch of Frost series? I picked up
the DVD and watched the first movie last night.
Very good. Little bit of cognitive dissonance going on (especially when he says
"My son"), but all in all, not bad. Not sure if Inspector Morse came first or
not, but there's an obvious similarity: plot, younger sidekick, older inspector
that doesn't like paperwork, etc. Come to think of it, almost every police
series is like that.
Thanks for the info Peter. It rings a bell. I will dig the book out.
By the way, fantastic email address.
John
The first time I went gliding a few years ago (at an RAF base), arranged as
a treat by friends, David Jason was there too. We both ended up pushing one
of the landed gliders back to the launch point - me on one wing, David on
the other. I'm sure that shared event was a far more memorable thing for me
than it was for him!
Dont know anything about his flying history but just thought I'd add my bit
to the thread!

The original post that this was piggybacked against was from a John Davies.
Is this the same twat who's spamming all the TV-related groups with that
request for applicants for a new reality show?
