Can't they deport the rest of the Eastenders cast at the same time?

So Keith Vaz reckons he should stay because "people like him"?

Nice to see immigration policy is as fair as any other.

Isn't Kareena supposed to be only 19? But that's beside the point. The
Ferreira kids couldn't wait to see the back of their dad, especially after
recent events.
Personally I'll be sorry to see them go. A whole family was brought in
without even one tiny scrap of a decent storyline. With so many characters
the possibilities could have been endless. Ash's gambling issue could have
been further developed, especially with Shirley working in the bookies.
Madhur Jaffrey is a good actress and the disappeared mother storyline had
lots of potential. The obvious issues between Dan and Adi are left
unexplored, just hanging neither here nor there. Ronny and Kareena were
given just brief chances to develop as characters. What's the point in
introducing so many new characters if the juiciest storylines are still
given to the same old boring ones.
Just my opinion of course.

Hmmmn... Keith Vaz calls him "an excellent actor"

Ananova:

Blunkett urged to help Eastenders actor

David Blunkett has been urged to intervene to ensure an Eastenders
actor is not removed from Britain over work permit rules.

Labour former minister Keith Vaz said he has tabled a House of Commons
motion on behalf of Dalip Tahil who plays Elvis-obsessed dad Dan
Ferreira in the long-running BBC soap.

The motion refers to reports that Mr Tahil has received a letter from
the Home Office rejecting his application to stay and work in the
country.

It urges the Home Secretary to help Mr Tahil continue in his role "not
just because he is an excellent actor, and one of the few actors of
Asian origin on national television, but also because the Ferreira
family with their trials, tribulations and trysts will be left
fatherless at this crucial time in all their lives".

During exchanges on future parliamentary business, Mr Vaz asked Peter
Hain: "I wonder if you are a regular viewer of Eastenders or if you
feel that being Leader of the House is enough exposure to soaps?"

Hailing Mr Tahil as "an internationally renowned actor", he added: "I
raised this matter with the Home Secretary on Tuesday and he promised
that officials would speak to me about it.

"I've just spoken to Mr Tahil's solicitor and he has made an
application to remain in this country under the Highly Skilled Migrant
Workers' Scheme," Mr Vaz added.

He urged Mr Hain to draw the Home Secretary's attention to the motion
so the promised meeting could go ahead.

Mr Hain replied: "I'm sure the Home Secretary will have noted already
your question. It is a serious case with a lot of complications. You
will understand that I cannot comment on individual cases. I haven't
had time to see an episode of Eastenders for a very long time.

"I was in the humiliating position of answering a question as to which
television programmes I saw more than twice a month and I'm afraid
they were the Premiership and Newsnight," he said, to groans.

Perhaps they could get PETA to intercede to save the raccoon?

He played an Arab smuggler in his first film. Surely he's covered by the
terrorism act then?

Elvis-obsessed? OK, we might have seen him dressed as Elvis when he first
arrived in the Square, and we heard his own version of an Elvis song, but
there's hardly been a reference to Elvis since. That's hardly what I would
call an Elvis obsession.

The other night they showed a shot from the Ferreira house with an Elvis
bust sitting on a shelf. Maybe they just cemented that into the
bookcase so they wouldn't have to worry about writing into the script
again. Maybe they'll have him carted off to the asylum as he's belting
out "Jailhouse Rock" or something.
