According to Amazon.com it's a 2 DVD set.
One is a 75 minute special, '40 years of Coronation Street' (would that be the
video that came out at the time?) and the other contains the first 5 episodes.

Features apparently include:
-'Essay by Coronation Street expert Daran Little.
-Profiles of key early characters
-Fun Facts
-Famous faces on the Street.

Pity it's only availaible on Region 1. Wonder *why* it's only available on
Region 1 !
Even though it's displayed on Amazon.co.uk they point out it's only available
from America!

I'm thinking only over here because the UK had a dvd rel\eased of the
first 12 episodes last year? This one has the first 5 and the 40th
anniversary special that was aired on tv. The "extras" aren't things
like interviews or such, just written text you can read. Nothing special
there but i enjoyed seeing the first 5 eps and i had taped the 40th
special to keep anyway :)

FWIW, the 40th-anniversary special as shown on the CBC had several (not very
important) insertions made especially for that broadcast, featuring various cast
members extolling the virtues of Canada and the Canadian viewership. I haven't
checked every detail, but it is also possible that some items on the tape/DVD
version were cut in the CBC version.

How can they produce this kind of bubbly rubbish on DVD before they
release Sam Peckinpah's "The Ballad of Cable Hogue"?

No, don't tell me, I know. "never mind the quality, feel the width."
