I just heard Gail use that expression. I like it! Is that a particular British expression? I don't remember hearing it before.

Seems to me like a literal translation from the French "Je ne suis pas
tombe de la dernire pluie".

The English would probably say "I wasn't born yesterday"....

Speaking of green one of my favorite Shakespeare lines is from "Antony and Cleopatra" --> "My salad days when I was green in judgement, cold in blood".

The Bard did it best!!

Call me what you will but I love being English!!!!

Indeed. There are African Americans, Irish Americans, Polish Americans,
Scottish Americans... why not English Americans?

Have you ever seen a TV show called "Lie To Me", starring Tim Roth as Dr Cal
Lightman? Lightman is English and his daughter is proud to call herself an
English American. But when she wants to wind her dad up, she claims that she
thought they were Australian.

All this business about "5 a day", which has now conveniently turned into "7
a day"... It's not fair because the vegetables that I actually *do* like
(potatoes and onions) are not included. Tomatoes *are* included, but not
if they are cooked or processed into soup or ketchup or put in pizza...

Since when did cooked tomatoes not count?? They are actually better for you
when cooked. I was just googling and one of the suggestions on a BBC site
for easy ways to get your 5 a day is Covent Garden Soup - the fresh gazpacho
with tomaotes cucumber and red peppers will give you 2 to 3 portions from
half a carton apparently.

I do know that ketchup and puree will only count once however much you eat
of it though>;_)

Maybe because we were the enemy in 1776 and 1812. Or possibly English American is the default and doesn't need to be said. The fact that Americans don't speak Polish or Erse or Swahili says something.

If Josef and Lisa aren't coming, it doesn't have to be York. Somebody
suggest a place and time and we can start thinking.

My family can't be accused of rebellion against the Crown in 1776. My dad's family [my great great grandparents] did not come to the USA until the late 1840s.

Nor can they be accused of rebellion in 1860. They were living in California plus my great great grandfather served in the Union Army during that War Between the States.
